This is bad. Like, possibly the worst audio product I've ever bought and used. When I saw this, I thought it'd be a decent product despite the negative reviews. It looked like it had some quirks, but with a little work could surely be functional. heh, no. So let's start with the connections. Well, it has optical audio, a 3.5mm jack (like headphones), HDMI ARC, Bluetooth, and Airplay. Of these 5 options, 0 function correctly. Bluetooth never worked or paired. Airplay was easy to set up and then never played any audio ever (which is kinda important for a speaker). Well shucks, guess there's no wireless options. But at least I can still use it for the primary purpose of a TV soundbar, right? L A G There was so much lag, it's insulting. On which ports? ALL OF THEM. Yes, HDMI ARC has a delay, the aux jack has a delay, and the optical audio-- a standard that sends data at the speed of freaking light, was also delayed by around a second. That doesn't sound like much, but keep in mind this is only the sound. The picture is still on track, so now everything is horrendously out of sync. Now there is a workaround. Yes, one port does actually work. Well, sort of. The HDMI ARC channel is multipurpose as the soundbar has 2 HDMI ports. One in and one out (the out handles the ARC as it goes to the TV). So if you have only one device you ever want to use on your TV with multiple ports, then this is ALMOST an option. ALMOST I don't suppose your device uses the CEC standard? Perhaps like an Xbox or something. Essentially, it's supposed to have basic control on TV functions so it can do things like power the TV on when you power the system on. Well, this soundbar supports it. Except.... oh boy. It's so smart, that after you power it on, and everything wakes up and switches to the correct input, it the soundbar then switches to the HDMI 2 port. You know, the video out port. It's displaying your output as your input. That's cool. So any time you power your system on, it WILL switch right after doing it all correctly and you then have to find it's specific remote (because it has its own remote) and switch it BACK to HDMI 1-- which should be the only HDMI port it can switch to but for some reason isn't. Great work TCL... Now it does have a subwoofer at least, but good luck getting it paired. According to the manual, it is supposed to do it automatically (sometimes it even does do that). Otherwise, you have to follow a silly and unclear procedure to pair them manually that doesn't actually work. Option 3 (which I had to figure out myself) is to unplug the power to both at the same time, then plug them back in and pray that they actual sync up this time. I'd have to say this is a fascinatingly incompetent product that should never have left the design stage in this state. It's completely unusable as a soundbar in every way it advertises. Not one of the features it supposedly has functions correctly. TCL couldn't even get ONE feature correct. And hey, just to add insult to injury-- this soundbar is a big chunky design. Which is great, because it's too big to fit under the TV between it's legs, but not long enough for the weird TV legs that TCL makes (scissor feet on either side) to sit on top of it. So if you have a pretty skinny TV stand, you get to figure out how to place a chunky soundbar in front of the TV in a goofy looking way or use the mounting kit to add it to the wall that they include. Based on how the rest of the features of this soundbar worked, you can assume it will stick about as well as soap on butter and smash your TV to pieces below it. Overall, I'd like to thank TCL for this 5 foot paperweight with a wireless boat anchor, but it's just so good at absolutely nothing that I think I'm going to have to return it. Great job, TCL.

There are a few problems with this soundbar. And for reference, I'm comparing it to my Vizio V51-H6 soundbar that I bought along with this but is far superior. First, when I turn on Dolby Atmos, the dialog volume goes way down, and I can't hear any improvement in the height of the sound. And my ceiling is only 8' tall. The sound is small. The scoops in the soundbar are gimmicky. They're supposed to provide a wide soundstage. Not so. And the sound has minimal detail, fullness and richness. Lastly, and a deal breaker all by itself is the inability to bring the volume down far enough if listening quietly. Its lowest volume is far louder than it should be. The Vizio's goes down 4 more levels to a whisper. And the sound of the Vizio blows the TCL away. No, there's no Dolby Atmos, but having rear satellites with the Vizio, even placed next to the soundbar, is a way better way to get a much more immersive sound.

There's definitely nicer sound systems out there, I chose this one because I have a TCL tv and I hate having to use multiple remotes. The sound quality isn't bad. Don't expect full surround sound but the vents do "bounce" sound off the wall. Sometimes it really does work but most of the time it sounds like it's coming straight from the speaker. It has good bass but I feel like it only comes on at lower levels. If you like having one remote and will compromise on sound for that then go with this. If you want the best sound quality then go with a real surround sound

This TCL sound bar for the money is definitely worth it I would have even pay $350 for it this soundbar delivers very clear vocals I have selected movie mode with travel at +3 and base at +1 and it delivers a great sound for a pretty good size living room volume gets very loud definitely above 110 decibels it's able to do this without any distortion or any harsh noise coming from the speakers it delivers a clear and natural sound in the base can handle anything from movies to music this sound bar is totally worth the money I paid for it at 250 bucks I would have paid more of course I have mentioned and it gives a very wide sound stage for its size the sound bar looks large with the wing like looking things that come off the side but really the sound bar is about a foot and a half long but when you add the sound stage wave guides on the ends it is a pretty long soundbar but for my 65-in TCL TV it hooks up and looks really good next to it this sound bar delivers excellent quality The only thing I would change about the sound bar is and still just having streaming music through using your phone I wish it had an assistant built-in where you could select either Amazon's Alexa or Google Assistant if you could do this this soundbar would be complete and I would definitely pay in the $400 range for those options at least $350 for those options That's the only thing I would like to see change on the soundbar for its next model I hope TCL stays in the game and really knocks out the park for the next upscale soundbar this one is very close I have tried the Bose 700 soundbar with a base module and for the money difference Bose isn't really worth it compared to this soundbar I save tons of money and what this delivers for the money is pretty much a no-brainer you will not be disappointed Make sure you put it on movie mode and make sure you have the treble turn up plus three and the base at least plus one or two

Product sounds great, but it’s impossible to turn off. Always goes in to sleep mode. Has to be turned on and off multiple times before it turns off. Also, it never saves any of your previous settings. Always just resets you back to tv mode for listening.

Great value for the money. The sound is good and the bar is easy to configure. I ould take half a point of. make it 4.5 :-) Two issues I have and both FireTV related: #1 - it's impossible to close connectors bay with FireTV/FireStick connected 0.25 off #2 - Current FireTV universal remote does not work with Alto 9+. It works with 8+ with no issues. All attempts to obtain code from TCL failed. ANother 0.25 off

This has been a great addition to our TCL Roku TV. It gets loud enough for what we need, and the sound mode options are okay for starters. This was one of the few which integrates with our TV so we generally only need one remote for a decent amount of control over the soundbar. It's the perfect size for our 55", and it looks really good. Occasionally the sound bar will disconnect from the television. Tonight when it did this, we found out there was a software update. After the update, everything worked as expected again.

Really surprised that this sounds as good as it does. I have a similar Samsung unit which this beats, hands down. I had almost given up on these satellite systems, and was expecting to return this one. But it sounds great and integrates perfectly with the TCL TV it was bought for. NO TV has great speakers. It's a design limitation. This system works very well. Playing YouTube at 70% volume is actually painful. I love it!

Set up is very easy if you have a TCL TV. However, if you want to set up AirPlay or Chromecast, you have to go through the “manual” process of connecting to the sound bar and connecting it to your WiFi. Not a particularly hard process but not seamless. The biggest issue with this sound bar is how sound besides dialogue is muted to almost whisper. Listening to Avengers Endgame on Disney Plus, spaceships, explosions etc are almost inaudible. I don’t know if this is a defective unit or what, but it’s most definitely not a surround, big soundstage experience. Contacted support to see if there’s a solution. If not resolved I will return it and would not recommend.

This may be a good deal for the money. But, it had really annoying A/V sync problems, and I wasn't that crazy with the sound anyway. I returned it and will probably spend more to get a better sound bar eventually. It was also surprisingly hard to set up. I had a terrible time plugging the power cord in and finally had to force it. It was like it needed a fraction of an inch more space, but it didn't have it. Perhaps mine was defective, but I didn't like it enough to try just exchanging it for the same thing.

This product is terrible. That sound is decent but the firmware/connectivity is a major issue. Don’t even bother. After I bought one I it did a firmware update and suddenly numerous problems with things ranging from sync to having no control over volume, even using the soundbar remote or the buttons on the bar itself. The problem goes away temporarily after resetting the soundbar or unplugging the hdmi several times. Went through months of back and forth with TCL support who initially tried to blame the roku os on my tcl tv but finally admitted the product was faulty after about 3 months. They sent me a new one and told me to throw the old one out. I set up the new one today, the firmware updated and already has the same issues. It’s a piece of junk and now I have to throw out two sound bars or I have to live with the frustration of unplugging it several times every time I want to watch tv and want control over the volume. Don’t believe me? Google “alto sound bar volume not working” and you’ll find numerous threads about people having the same issue. Avoid.
