One of the best western RPG ever made
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is one of the best western RPG game ever made! This game has tons of replay value and freedom of choice of how to interact with the world. It is up to you of how to build your character and style of play. Of all the being said, there are some flaws within the game as well. The main quest line might be too short, excessive bugs across all platforms (PC players had more advantage over ps3 and xbox players because they can fix those issues themselves). I have this game on Ps3 and all that bugs didn't stop from playing this game. You also get to kill dragons in this game. A classic dragons that breathe fire, it is one of the best thing that I had hoped for. This game is huge in terms of contents as well. You also get to build your own armor, enchant your weapons and armors and make potions out of raw ingredients. Dungeon exploring is fun and the world is huge. There are always places to explore!

Just Wow
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I tried to avoid this game at first, but my wife got it for me for Christmas, and I have to say it is mind-blowing. In terms of visuals there may be none greater. The overworld has an incredibly vast and realistic looking landscape, like if it had been designed by National Geographic. You could spend weeks just exploring the country and never stop finding new hidden locations throughout the game world. The side-quests seem endless to where it feels like every person you talk to in the game gives you a quest. The main story isn't the greatest thing in the world, but the people in the towns reactions to that and the story of civil war that runs parallel the game feel realistic and natural. You will find yourself engrossed. The only complaints I can come up with is that the game begins to lag later on when your save file gets too large. I've only noticted it though after playing for more than three hours. In addition, because the game is so open ended, it's very easy to do quests out of order which sometimes introduces bugs. For example, I cleared out a dungeon of bandits only to discover a person on the other side of the dungeon asking me to do what I just that. It took more of an effort to get him to respond to the fact that I already had, then just going back and doing the quest again the right way. Nevertheless, don't let this game slip past you. It's essential for any hardcore gamer!

Sublime story and overall an excellent game.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is one of my first games and I'm incredibly pleased with my purchase. This is likely a contender for game of the year, and winning it would do the game justice. It's graphics for a free roam game are far better than expected, the main story is great so far, i haven't made much progress as a whole although i've played a copious number of hours simply because there are so many side quests to do and they just stack up, my goodness. I read on IGN that there are 300 hours of gameplay just on the main quest and the fact that the side quests take up some time aswell means that there will be an enormous amount of gameplay if you explore. The shear number of things you can do and improve your character with are out the roof. I could keep rambling on, but if you buy this game i can be sure that you won't regret it.

excellent gaming experience w/ no glitches yet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have read many reviews of the PS3 version of this game and find them overwhelmingly positive until time passed and everyone starting having issues with the game locking up. This problem is so bad people cannot even play it any longer. So far, I have not experienced these issues but I have not played quite long enough to be sure that it won't happen to me. Several great new games were released the same time this past year and I only have so much gaming time to play. So far, the game is awesome in scope and is challenging enough to keep you interested w/o being too difficult and repetitive. After playing a while, the long pauses to load new areas after going through a doorway or entering a dungeon get a little old. Sometimes, it seems I am spending more time loading than playing. When I am in a town and entering and leaving buildings a lot, it can get tedious waiting to load. Beyond that, there aren't too many complaints. I haven't experienced the frame rate bug so I cannot say much about that but it seems that it basically renders the game unplayable. We'll see.

One of the best games out there
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is by far one of the best games out right now. You can spend so much time doing random stuff. The graphics are great. The detail is extensive. There have been a few times during my game play that I had to stop and look around to enjoy the scenery. There is always something to do and you can easily get side tracked doing one thing and wind-up several hours into the game and not made an progress to your original objective. I would highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys RPG's or any of the Bethesda games. The only down side I had with this game was that after a long term play it started to lag out and freeze. But I hear that has been fixed with the newer patch. Other than that its a huge time sink. Its hard to just get on for a few mins without mins turning to hours. I can guarantee you get your moneys worth via the time ratio. I spent more than 100 hours playing this game.

The best RPG available
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is huge. There are so many things to do and see, it will keep your interest for months, at least. I'm about 30 hours in, and have yet to see any issues with slowness that I had heard of (not to say thare are none, I just haven't come across any). Dozens of main and side quests (which you can do or ignore at will), and many options to customize your character. There is a good 10-minute opening sequence where you don't have control, but don't get discouraged...after that you are in complete control for the rest of the game. I mention this because a friend of mine rented this game, thought it was all like the opening and took it back. Patience, grasshopper. It's well worth the brief wait. I'll be enjoying this one for a long time to come.

Solid Game for a Solid Gaming Console
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Positives: Skyrim is a solid game with solid graphics, gameplay, combat, audio and more! If you like the Elder Scrolls series you'll love this game. It has 100's of quests. I've personally logged about 200 hours of gameplay and I'm still attempting a platinum trophy to complete my experience. This is not to say it takes 200 hours. It's been said this game can be "finished" in around 50-60 hours (all quests completed). The presentation is professional and doesn't disappoint artistically speaking. Sometimes, I'll pop the game in simply to hear the music play or run around the vast landscape that is Skyrim. There are several towns to visit and I've personally discovered well over 150 locations but there's more than that! Negatives: My wife has experienced freezes and loss of frame rate while playing her character. We've also had one incident where the PS3 restarted and warned us: "Data may have been corrupted. The hard drive will now be scanned." Or something to that effect. There's no doubt some issues with the PS3 version as I've experienced them myself. However, none of these have distracted me enough to see them as game-breaking. To buy or not to buy? that is the question: BUY.

The BEST yet the WORST Game of 2011!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is like finding your dream woman...but she's married to your rival. The storyline, quests, gameplay, sound / voice, characters / environment (graphics) -- everything was great until the lag hits you. The loading and saving takes forever, too. I would only recommend this game to a friend, if the game developer fixes the lag and minor bugs or if a friend has a lot of patience. By the way, I'm thankful for the gameplay in Third Person View...one reason why I'm not cussing at this game for the annoying lag.

New depth keeps Elder Scrolls on top.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an epic game that will satisfy and leave you skipping dinner to play more. Compared to Elder Scrolls IV, Skyrim boasts a great cast of voice actors. Drop a sword you don't want and wait-someone will come along and pick it up and offer to return it to you. Not all hostile enemies are aggressive, a giant may be just as pleased to walk past as to bludgeon you with his club. With rich colors and graphics, character depth, new spells, new dangers (such as giants and dragons), Bethesda has brought to life what is sure to become a modern classic in gaming. Once again, they set the bar for the industry and are THE trendsetters of first-person RPG fantasy. 10 out of 10

Awsome Game of Fantacy Leads You To Heroic Status
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.MINOR SPOILER:***The overall feel of the game is restituted in the opening scene where you have no control other than looking left to right as your wheeled down a hill slowly in what appears to be a wagon taking you to jail. You slowly reach your destination and all you can hear are the townspeople talking about you as if you are a criminal and so you anxiety heightens as you come to a stop by a guillotine***. This is the suspense in the storyline that reveres this type game above your normal Grand Theft Auto style open platform as the storyline allows you to progress in the game , though you have the choice to develop other skills, quests, abilities and other side and miscellaneous quests by the hundreds aside from the main storyline quest. The graphics are stunning along with the physics although when picking up an item it sometimes only allows you to move it in the environment instead of it being in your inventory. You then have to drop the item in the environment and click on it again to add it to the inventory. Sometimes you may want to move the item in your environment but be careful; a piece of paper will knock over a shield on the shelf if you are trying to place the paper on the same shelf as the shield, so those physics are not realistic. Adventure awaits the traveler with this single player World of Warcraft feel of a game although when you make a potion or a piece of armor, you actually have to go to an alchemy lab or a forge as opposed to conjuring the item like you do in World of Warcraft in your hands; which gives resonance to the verisimilitude of Skyrim and Tamriel, the world in which you kill dragons with the same ability that dragons have and delve deep into dungeons for, not only treasure but words you can also use against ; not only the dragons but other foes as well. Bethesda has spared no expense on this fantasy game's reality check. The elements, such as water, light, rain, snow, blizzard, and fire actually gives the gamer a true feeling of what the avatar on the screen is going through. The blizzard to the north of your starting city of Whiterun, will actually give you chills as the wind and snow limit your visibility to the eerie unknown. This civil war torn region, Skyrim, between the Imperials and Stormcloaks will have you vying for which faction you should choose in many occasions and which will unlock certain quests and instances where you can get the most of what the game has to offer. Ideally, this is not a game for a casual gamer, with hundreds of quests, surprises, and action, this could take you literally a few years to complete but at the same point when you have the time, relax with a few hours of Skrim and be whisked away to a fantasy land where you can decide to be good or evil and show off your Dragonborn heritage to the people of Skyrim. Bo tuh Da!

A great game flawed beyond forgiveness.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Story: The entire game is broken into a number of smaller quests, which is nice. The main story was a bit weak for me. It never had me really feeling like I was playing an important part of the game. Also the game has no real ending, some may like that other never get that feeling of completion just get sick of the game and quit playing. I would have liked the quests to be broken up into "only playable as certain character types" so you had a reason to play a shorter game. This would allow you the opportunity to play various other styles during replay attempts which had differing story bits & playing types. A master wizard, theft, assassin character which even then is “limited” IMO, is a bit much. Having said that a game that gives you the ability to easily put over 100 hours and not replay any dungeons or be forced to continue a boring plot line is pretty spectacular. Gameplay: 160+ hours and a majority of the game play is so freaking repetitive (enemies, weapons) though you never really seem to be that upset at it and at least the dungeons all unique. Enemies level as you do so there is no worrying about going back to an area and having to kill a ton of super weak enemies however if you have played these type games before the game play is never really a challenge. My biggest beef is the bugs, any idea how upset you will be when 100 hours into a game an you realize a certain quest item is missing from the game completely (an you may be stuck with others in your inventory because of it), or when you can’t kill a dragon because it is flying around backwards too far away to attack? Any idea how bad is sucks when you get dozens of quest items stuck in your inventory and either you have no idea what quest to complete to get rid of them? Or that you missed some minor part of the quest but finished the overall quest and thus can never get rid of the item? When it takes several minutes for an area to load and you have to pass trough 7-8 load areas (such as doors) to get where you are going? Never playing it again, not that it isn’t a great game. It is just way too flawed and way too long to interest me in another play through. Graphics: Most of the time the game is freaking beautiful, people and mountain sides (when scaling) were my only real areas where there was noticeable pixelation or "voids". Mountains from a far, dragons, waterfalls and some of the unique areas (look at the Ill Met By Moonlight quest, my personal favorite area) were just amazing for a game this massive, kudos on this from me.

This Game is NOT Broken
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have put in 40+ hours into this game and it has only frozen once. It is true that loading screens get a little bit longer but only by a second or so. Also frame rate does sometimes have a tendency to drop during intense action but it is very minor and rare. This game works and is one of the best RPGs on the market

Awesome game
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If your into deep RPGs this is for you..I hear people saying this is comparable to the Fallout series. I would have to disagree. Skyrim is way better, the random animal and dragon attacks are well organized. The companions you can pick up along the way are a great touch. With multipe ways to travel the world it keeps the game pretty well paced. huge replay value considering character creation freedom and quest options. There are a few minor gameplay flaws, such as stutters in graphics, and characters sticking in place both npc and main characters. The questing menu could have been more organized considering the amout of quests that are availible. It's very neatly impossible to separate main plot and side quests. But overal it's an awesome game playing experience, flaws and all. Well worth the purchase

Another Great Open World RPG
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Skyrim was created by Bethesda, which is the same group that produced Oblivion (Elder Scrolls 4), Fallout 3 and many others. I have Oblivion, but am more currently familiar with the Fallout series and can relate a lot of the feel of Skyrim (Elder Scrolls 5) to that of the Fallout games. Skyrim is a first person RPG that basically places you in ultimate control of your destiny. In the beginning you'll chose a character class (each come with a small benefit of some kind), but these classes don't limit you to traditional Mage or Warrior type RPG skill sets; you develop the skills that you chose to play the most. The more you use a particular skill (such as two handed weapons), the higher the level goes and the more options you have to spend attribute points within the skill. As your character gains enough experience, the leveling system works much like that of Final Fantasy 13; you spend attribute points on particular skill upgrades provided the skill level is high enough. The graphics are stunning and I'm enjoying the game quite a bit so far. If you're someone who got burnt out on Fallout, then at this time Skyrim may not be the game for yourself. However, if you're a fan of RPG games and you enjoy the Medieval type setting with a game that has free roaming in an open world with multiple possible endings, then Skyrim is certainly the game for you. I'd also say that if you're new to these types of games that Skyrim is very intriguing and that you may get hooked fairly quickly. If you pay attention to all of the side quests that the citizens within each town tends to give you, it'll be easy to "chose your own adventure" by joining various groups and to create your own story-based ending. To add to all of that, I believe that there are 50 PS3 trophies available to unlock in Skyrim, so there are quite a bit of ways to potentially enjoy the game. In closing, there aren't many RPG games out there that I won't try, and if I had to give this game a numerical rating, I'd probably give it a 9.5 out of a possible 10. I don't regret paying full price for Skyrim and I have a good feeling that if you're on the fence about it, that you won't either.
