This fantasy about the Great Wall in China and its "ancient legend of why" is an enjoyable story with special effects, the element of science fiction (within the realm of possibility?) and the masterfully choreographed actions of Matt Damon and Jing Tian. As with most Chinese movies about ancient heroes and heroins, they may cross the line of being super human at times but this will remain one of our favorites.

Ever pondered why a culture would toil and invest hundreds of years and vast amounts of treasure to construct what will probably forever remain the greatest architectural accomplishment of mankind? Of course, there are historic accounts of invasions by hoards of barbarians. But, what if many other 'inhuman' attempts were endured as composites of horrors and the inexplicable, so far beyond the boundaries of the human psyche, they remain oral lore. Unbelievable cinematics and the colors, oh my! A no-brainer in my opinion!!

This movie is about some mercenaries who go to China looking for gunpowder. The two who survive wind up at the Great Wall in time to help the Chinese fight a horde of horrible monsters. The plot is simple but the special effects and action keep you watching the movie.

I was hesitant to watch the movie after reading/hearing so many negative reviews and opinions. After seeing it for myself, I thought it was a decent movie and a pretty good home theater movie. Good action scenes with an appropriate amount of humor mixed in. The monsters could have been better done to seem more "real." Worth a watch, especially if you have a home theater system.

I had read some less than stellar reviews about this movie, but found it to be quite enjoyable.

Absolutely surreal. I can see why it might not have made a splash in the theater, cause I sure don't remember it. The film quality is top notch and the acting was fair, but the story line is lacking. Still if you are a fan of historical fiction, action, sci-fi, and monster flicks; this movie has it all, and is really fun to watch.

It is an overblown full out rediculous action picture. If that's all you want in a movie, well THE GREAT WALL has got exactly what you're looking for. Bravery, ingenuity, good looks and common sense is all you need to stand up to rabid monsters and win the gratitude of The Ancient Chinese Empire. Check your brain out when you put that bluray in and you'll have one heck of a fun ride.

This story is, of course, fiction. We know this isn't the real reason for the building of the Great Wall (sorry if you thought it was :-) ). However, the story is exciting and will catch your attention and hold it. There is a lot of action, but also a little romance. The characters are well played and the ending is quite dramatic.

I rented this movie first to be sure it was worth adding to my collection! The answer Yes ! The action packed move was great from start to finish. To watch this movie in 4k was awesome, the colors were Splended the drums, the Chinese costumes were so beautiful ! And best barely a let up in the action at All!! Watch this and judge for yourself! I loved it enough to buy it !!!

Really enjoy this movie and buying it 4k was a must! The colors and visuals are stunning and the movie itself is very dynamic! If your looking for a great action movie with a strong cast and fictional storyline look no further than this movie! Highly recommend love it for my collection

We first viewed this via a streaming service for which we had a Free Movie: liked it enough that we picked up the Blu-Ray (On Sale, of course). The Great Wall has a rich look, and features a lot of action - some of which is very innovative. Not a movie to think about too much - but a fun way to spend a couple of hours with friends & a bowl (or two....) of popcorn...

Fan of Matt Damon, just thought I should put that out there. But as in all of he movie, he's acting was great but wish I could have seen more of the other characters abilities in acting and fighting style. The plot was predictable from the beginning but didn't disappoint being a fun film. The customs where very well made and it made it more enjoyable.

A different take on the purpose of the Great Wall, this movie starts out nice and finishes well. Lots of action - I noticed some complained about character build and interaction - i found it okay. Do not want to spoil the plot on some of that interaction, so I say buy it, watch it and enjoy. A twist or two in the story and the ending closes things up. Over all I liked it.

I think they could have crafted a better tail for why the Great Wall was built but if you can get past the story it's a really enjoyable movie due to the amazing special effects and graphics. The battle scenes with the lizard men were just so much fun. So throw your adult mind out the door n think with the wonder of a child for 2 hours and you will love this flick.

I bought this since the trailers appeared to be exciting. There were a lot of negative reviews for the movie, but the trailers made it seem worthwhile to check out. Well the critics were right on the money on this one. This is not a keeper, pretty weak plot and story line .....fizzled. Pretty tough to recommend this movie.

The sound was just out standing, reference grade for those that have a 7 one system. Color and picture quality where very good. Storyline moved along with a nice pace. The CG,was outstanding. Acting and cast where very good. Lot's of Action, made you feel if you were there in the story. This film you Will want in your library. I highly recommend seeing this film.

Good movie to watch and full of action. Fantasy film but very entertaining.

I saw the previews for the movie, and thought it would be entertaining. It is all that, and more. You could lose yourself in the movie. All of the characters fit into the movie well, and played off each other very well. The computer graphics were impressive, without taking over the movie. This was a nice way to spend a couple of hours, and a bag of popcorn.

The storyline has three stories within itself a lot of it has to do with the history of the Great Wall China and it’s enemies that it held off and the two main characters in this movie and I know one was capable of change good sci-fi action packed movie with another line of honor and change funny at times store Historically challenging

Well I waited until this was on disc vs seeing in theaters due to the fact that the trailers I’d seen we not all that amazing. I figured wait and save myself a few thousand dollars, ok, it feels like that much when I take all 3 boys. With me.. lol,,, I thought it was pretty good, kept my attention throughout and had good storyline. My boys however were begging me to skip out and sneak to the movie nexdoor, I don’t recall what was playing but they just trout it was boring.
