I haven't finished BOTW yet but it's definitely a contender for one of the best games I've played, period. It's been two weeks since I got it and I'm playing it every possible moment I have. The world is immersive and huge, the story is engaging, the music is fantastic and the difficulty is just right. You can spend WEEKS in one area trying to find every secret and still miss some. This will go down as one of the best games of all time, Zelda or otherwise.

I've been playing Zelda since I was a kid on the NES. It is one of my favorite game franchises. By far my favorite is Zelda Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64. It made a perfect transition to 3D back in those years. It surpassed all of my expectations. After that all other Zelda games fell short to capture the same amount of excitement and satisfaction that OofT did. And to think that Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword are awesome games still. Fast forward to Breath of the Wild. I think Breath of the Wild is what Zelda has always needed to be in a 3D world. I love how they don't hold your hand anytime in the game and guide you where to go next. You have all the freedom to travel as you wish in the huge world Nintendo has created. There is no Navi fairy or Fii Sword spirit guiding you throughout the game. You learn things by talking to people and them telling you their stories and rumors going around the world. It really feels like a modern Zelda from the NES era and it is awesome. You can get lost for hours in its huge world and you will find secrets in every corner. It is a very satisfying experience every time I play, and it stays in your mind giving you a itch to go back and play some more. I highly recommend getting a Nintendo Switch and playing it on there instead of Wii U. This game is enormous and the convenience of the Switch allows you to play anytime you have some free time. I'm glad to see Nintendo is getting back on track. Here's hoping this E3 2017 they show off some amazing new games to support the system from 1st parties and 3rd parties. Breath of the Wild is as of now my second favorite Zelda game behind Ocarina of Time now question. I haven't finished yet so maybe it will be my favorite at the end.

This is just the best Zelda to date period. This time Nintendo made it a launch title, which made the Switch worth buying just for this game alone. The exploration, puzzles, food cooking system and battles are just in the right mix along with the storyline which is non linear (you can choose how you approach the game) I recommend just enjoy every minute of it. Dont rush the game. Every shrine, side quest and upgrades are worth playing a while. Although, it is all good, it still has some flaws that made this game a tad bit from being perfect. First, the menu system, I wish that they could just have made a hot key for consumables so I dont need to hit the + button every time I need to eat food and drink an elixir. (the down on the directional pad should be used for this instead of the whistle) The Joy Con needs some time to get used to. I always accidentally press the left analog down which makes Link crouch when Im in the heat of battle (I just hate it) So I got the Nintendo pro controller which made it a lot better (I think this pro controller should have came with the system). This minor inconveniences wont tarnish this game as one of the best games that I played ever in my 30 years of video gaming. Nintendo is still the best when it comes to making the best and coolest fun games.

Definitely a great game. Has a bit of a challenge and it's not the unfair type of challenge it's more of you made a mistake and it's your fault type of challenge. You can literally try to beat the game from the start, and probably fail at such unless you are REALLY good. Would suggest this to someone that Likes Either Skyrim or any other Legend of Zelda Fan or just anyone who wants an adventure, because an adventure it is!

As the only must-have launch title for the Switch (just my opinion!) it helps that it's actually a good game. An open world spin on Zelda is quite different than folks are used to and it works mostly pretty well. There are some quibbles about stuff that I personally don't like (breakable weapons, for example) and the dungeons are totally different for a Zelda game. But still a lot of fun and playing it directly on the Switch gamepad is a trip!

I bought this game for my 10 year old son and he absolutely loves it. He goes on and on about how good the game is and about all the cool things he did while playing. I highly recommend it. Nice graphics, looks like a good storyline and open world concept seems never ending. Really nice to share with him a game I enjoyed playing myself when I was young.

Breath of the Wild is a huge success as a Zelda game and as an open world game. Nintendo has created the perfect mix of classic Zelda gameplay and story, and the best ideas from modern open world games. Many elements are added, changed or removed making this a very unique entry in a series I thought was getting played out.

I've been playing The Legend of Zelda since the first iteration on the NES. My favorite in the series so far has been Link to the Past, but it remains to be seen if Breath of the Wild overtakes that position. BotW first of all is gorgeous; the landscapes and environments are just beautiful and the world is massive. Gameplay is very fun. I've put in probably around 15 hours so far but have accomplished very little because I like to explore and experiment. Discovering what you can do in the world is very interesting, especially because you now have the Sheikah tablet and it's abilities. I still haven't gotten to the divine beasts, so am quite eager to learn what they do (I've avoided all videos and write ups about the game so I've been going in completely blind). Fighting and staying alive is challenging, but if you play smart you can do a lot early on. Before heading out to new areas I try to make sure I have at minimum three faeries in my inventory. Luckily you can easily warp to places you've been, so when I'm in trouble I retreat to figure out a different tactic. Overall, I'm so happy with what Nintendo has done with this game. I would be happy owning the Switch solely to play it (though luckily the Switch has so many more amazing titles). I'm yet to see if it has retained elements that most of the other Zelda franchise has, but even without the 'classic' elements I love this game.

The best Zelda yet. Manages to solve all of the usual downfalls of open world games. Exploration is fun again--breakable weapons ensure that you always find meaningful loot, even if it's a weaker weapon, it can still be used on weaker enemies to save the durability of your stronger weapons. The story and atmosphere are breathtaking, and the world is beautifully designed. This is a game we'll be talking about for years to come.

I've been a fan of "TLOZ Series" since the very first one for the NES. Ocarina of Time is my all-time favorite followed by: A Link to the Past. This particular title Breath of the Wild 'BOTW' has instantly made its way to my top three of the whole series. At first, I wasn't okay that there weren't dungeons and the game feeling "Too real" with the weapons breaking and all. After getting a feel for where the developers were going and being up to par with the storyline of this one, I found myself not wanting to turn the game off like I used to do from the age of 6 - 16. (I'm now 33 years of age soon to be 34) The cinematography is excellent, the story is great, the gameplay is superb, and the overall concept is Perfect. If I could, I would give this game an extra 5-stars. It's so good that I literally google sequel to 'BOTW' every day hoping to at least get a new trailer for its sequel and a demo. After beating this game, I go back and play it to find little things here and there that I didn't find while completing the game. It's forever entertaining and a fun play.

It's Zelda meets Skyrim. Skyrim's openness where you can go anywhere you can see combined with Nintendo's focus and polish. Is a huge game and thought was put into every mountain and enemy encounter. The game encourages experimentation when fighting enemies and constant exploration elsewhere. The best open-world game I've played.

More open then previous Zelda games

This is the only game I have for my switch. I've played previous zelda games but never beat any of them. This one is more open world, and it is done right. It isn't as open as say, Skyrim, and the distance between two points of interest can sometimes be too long (especially stables), but it is fun exploring the world around you, at your choice. The story is very good, and you get all of your abilities relatively early on, with the most important abilities coming first. By about 6 hours played (including some meandering) I unlocked all of the abilities. The biggest negative I have about this game is the weather system. When it rains, surfaces become slippery and you can't climb as well. If there's a lightning storm, metal objects (weapons, shields, bows) will attract lightning bolts, doing huge damage in the area. Both of these can be annoying, because climbing and combat are huge aspects to the game. There have been many times where I had to sit and wait 10 minutes, doing nothing in-game, waiting for rain to stop so I could resume climbing a cliff or building. I've also been killed many times during combat in a lightning storm, when fighting one enemy and the weapon of a fallen one attracted electricity that killed me. Luckily the game autosaves pretty frequently Overall though, this is a very fun game that I can definitely see myself playing for a while. For me, it makes up for the switch's weak launch titles, since I probably won't need another game until late Spring/Summer (if that).

Ocarina of Time and Link to the past we're my favorite Zelda games of all time. (Minus Navi telling you to "Hey! Listen!" once in a while, you had to figure all the puzzles out on your own, which I enjoyed. Then Twilight Princess came out, which was ok....graphics were good and plot line was fresh and different, but there was too much guidance. Skyward Sword....ugh, I couldn't even finish the game. It was so linear, it was embarrassing. I was a fraction of a percent away from giving up on the franchise altogether. With all these open world concept games out there WHY hasn't Nintendo picked up on this?? Zelda would be the perfect world to do that in! I pretty much wanted a Skyrim/Ocarina of Time mashup. Then this came out. I held off on getting it for well over a year because I was terrified of being disappointed again. I kept up on reviews, and the difference between this Zelda and the others were that the reviews kept getting BETTER....so I decided to get the Nintendo Switch and play it. CONGRATS NINTENDO!!!! You finally gave us hardcore Zelda fans what we were looking for! Puzzles galore, difficult monsters, different battle scenarios, tons of secrets and most of all you can do anything in any order you want. You can go straight to Ganon 15 mins in of you want. You'll definitely die, but you have the OPTION to do it. That's what makes this game phenomenal.

Written by gamer: It was a great game. I liked the concept that they took with the open world map and the fact that you can travel all throughout the world. The graphics are extraordinary and I would like to see the same kind of quality in the sequel. Also, I like how you can choose what you do and there are lots of unique characters that have their own lives. I love when you help make Tarry Town. It brings the feel of a regular town game where you can witness the progression of the other NPCs going through their lives like getting married and making friends. Also, I like the horse mechanics. Like where the horse follows the path without you having to move it. But there is one thing that Nintendo can do better. That is, not having as much Sheikah-related things. Also, to make the clothes cost less, the amount of money you have to use on simple clothes is ridiculous. I mean, I almost had to sell all of my things to pay for the Sheikah armor. In the sequel, it would be nice if you could generate all of the items you get in the botw to botw 2 so people wouldn't have to work to get all the way back to the top. It was very fun playing the game and I can't wait to play the second one.

One of, if not THE best video game Ive ever played in my entire life. I’ve been a avid gamer since childhood. Being a millennial, that means the GAMEBOY / NES forward. In hs I was heavy into panting games and Zelda’s ‘Ocarina of Time’ blew my young mind. BOTW is the first Zelda game since Ocarina (it’s it’s sequel, Majora’s Mask) that feels on the same level quality wise in every way. Nintendo 100% NAILED use of the open-world style and not once in all 100+ hours played was I ever board. The expansion packs that came out separately later added even more to the fun. I’m sitting on my knees praying to the video game gods that Nintendo makes its promise and releases the amazing-looking sequel sometime early in 2022. BOTW is so good, it’s the type of game that imprints on your mind & thoughts forever from the gameplay to battles and controls plus intricate storyline. No complaints here and nothing but extreme praise!

Being a 70 female Zelda Fan, I put off buying the Switch because I thought it might be too much for me. But it is a Blast! The graphics are something you have NEVER seen in Zelda. You can play the game OR just forever wander, gathering, cooking & defeating foes. If you can see it on the screen, You Can Get There!

Ok so in the words of ffxv... BoTW definitely holds its own as new addition and continuation of the super successful and well loved LoZ series. I initially bought BoTW for my brother ( and he loves it too) but I couldn't help but play for like hours on end. Seriously Ill spend hours playing it, never gets boring. The story is emotional and engaging the nostalgia is fulllll blown and I eat it up. Gameplay is really acessible and immersive ! Everyone can play and enjoy it! I mean im a 21 yr old college student and my brothers 18 so we'll like play in the car before class lol to pass the time and like even my 7 yr old cousin she's loves the game too! So no matter how young or old or how familiar or unfamiliar with LoZ mythos...the game really appeals to any demographic !!

I love this game. Between the breathtaking visuals, the exciting gameplay, puzzles, compelling story and interesting characters, there's a reason this got GOTY in 2017. It is a gorgeous and fun game with tons to do in a massive open world. If you own a Nintendo Switch without Breath of the Wild it's my sincere opinion that you, my friend, are missing out dearly.

Game is a joy to play, lots of variety and things to do. If you love exploring in games like Witcher or Elder Scrolls and also like a Zelda-style game, then you should really enjoy this too! The game does have lag playing docked. There will be frame drops and stutter which is unfortunate. But gameplay-wise I'm having a blast! Lots of exploration, lots of weapons, collectibles and more!

The Legend of Zelda, breathe of the wild has truly proven itself to be one of the best games ever made. From a awe inspiring open world to a solid combat system with great rpg elements, the legend of Zelda does an amazing job at providing a rich story element with an insane amount of secrets, puzzles, and more. With hundreds and hundreds of hours of gameplay, this will be a $60 well spent.
