I've never played a Zelda game before, but after hearing all the hype, I decided to buy this when I saw it went on sale. At first, I felt pretty lost because this was my first open world game. Once I got used to the gameplay though, I was seriously hooked. At first I was confused by how open this game is, but now I appreciate it because it means that there's really no wrong way to play and you can just do whatever you feel like, whether you want to progress through the story, or sit back and enjoy all the game has to offer.

I haven't enjoyed a Zelda game this much since Wind Waker. The story is fantastic, the non-linear story and open world are perfect mechanics for Zelda games. Highly recommended.

What more can you say about this game. It's beautiful, the mechanics are amazing, it's open world, doesn't handhold you, backgrounds are actual locations you can go to, the world is vast, you can climb anything, and the game is fun and rewarding. People have been praising this game with many publications giving near perfect scores, and it earns them. The game isn't perfect, but there's so much here, that it's easy to overlook any issues. This game is more than a system seller, and I can't recommend it enough. Go out and buy your copy.

All the excitement around TotK convinced me it was time to invest in a Switch and try out the game that redefined the franchise, and I was not disappointed. Such a beautiful game and the open-endedness of it left me satisfied to leave the missions behind and just wander around. Can;t wait to try the sequel!

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the wild is by far my favorite game of all time. It's just so big and beautiful. It has a perfect balance between exploration and story that it encourages you to explore while still doing the main story or side quest. There is always something to do and lots of entertaining things to try. There is always a goal to work towards that will make you stronger. The story is great and the combat is very simple yet complex in a way and very fun. Overall, a masterpiece of a game and my favorite game of all time.

As you've probably heard, this game isn't quite your regular 3D Zelda. Open world, heavy on side quests, with an emphasis on exploration rather than just saving the day as soon as possible. The game has plenty of substance though, people to help, monsters to fight, encyclopedias to fill. And becomes more of a sandbox type of game when fully completed. If you enjoy open world exploration and sandboxes you should give it a go. But if you prefer the more linear and focused formula of older 3D zeldas then you might want to hold off.

I’ve been running around for over 115 hours into the game, and I still haven’t reached the end of Breath of the Wild. Not only is it vast, beautiful, and filled with a diverse set of locations from grassy fields to craggy alpine mountains, but it also has a marvelous story as well. I’ll highly recommend this game since there is so much content, and this was my first Zelda game and it absolutely blew me away with the story. I still got a long way to go for 100% even after getting all 120 shrines within the game!

Simply the best game available on the Switch. They really refined and improved what open world gaming from the competition. You can move at your own pace and explore the world, or beeline straight to the final boss and use your skill to try beat him. Choice is yours. And that is the key - your choice - how you want to play, with the developer not forcing you in either direction. Played almost all the Zelda games, and this one ranks as the at the top for me. Way to reinvent the Zelda formula while staying true to Zelda.

Zelda in an open-world, what about that sentence doesn't make anyone absolutely curious? And let me tell you, this is like playing Skyrim on the go! It's that fun and great! The best part is, Zelda: BotW changes the dynamic of all Open Worlds by giving Link the ability to climb ANY surface. See a mountain? Go climb it to get to the other side! Want to cross that river? Chop a tree and climb over via the trunk. It has amazing internally combinable systems where all natural reactions are possible. A must play and a great game!

This has a been a fun yet tedious Legend of Zelda game. Even though most Zelda games have the same storyline, the expansive map and nature of the game is so breathtaking and takes the game to new heights. (Literally) The graphics look amazing. There has been a lot of exploring to do and it can take forever to reach a destination until you unlock a tower or complete a shrine. The only annoyance I can have with this game are the weapons durability. It's good to avoid enemies at the beginning unless you really like to battle them.

    Arguably the Best Zelda Ever

The game is awesome. Expansive, will keep you busy and entertained for hours and days and weeks. It's not for everyone, though... it diverts from the usual Zelda 'holding your hand' recipe and instead slaps you with freely-roaming, no restricted objectives open world. Impressive and great, but only if you like NOT having to stick to a strict storyline and objective order and tackle the game in any way you see fit. If you've already played on the WiiU, however, and since you can't port your game save over, it's not really worth re-purchasing unless you really loved the game and wouldn't mind playing it all over again (it's MASSIVE).

The apparent love of the craft and attention to detail in this game speaks for itself. The only knock on this game is that amount of stuff to do is actually ridiculous, but a lot of the completionist checklist stuff is optional. Much of the story and gameplay feel relatively standard, but something about how it's all put together makes this game a lot more interesting to me thank other open world games like far cry and horizon zero dawn. Expect future open world games to borrow from this title liberally.

The first game I purchased with my switch and after sinking over 100 hours into it I'm still enjoying it. As a long time xbox gamer and fan of bethesda I can most easily compare it to skyrim or oblivion as it is an open world rpg, but I feel it wins out in almost every catagory. Trust me that's a lot to say as Oblivion is one of my all time favorite games, especially from a nostalgia perspective. Zelda Breath of the Wild nails all the components of a great open world rpg yet doesn't feel like it's been done before.

I was skeptical when critics started reviewing the game and it was getting perfect scores. I am giving you my opinion on this game as a portable game because that is the only way I play my Switch. This game is fun, great art style and possibly one of the best handheld games I've played besides Pokémon silver. My only criticism was the durability of the weapons but I don't mind it anymore because you always pick up new weapons so scarcity is not an issue. Controls take some getting use to but not a deal breaker.
