This game is beautiful, entertaining, and perfectly balances story/combat/exploration. It's got the feel of an original LoZ game without the structure of an LoZ game.

I have been waiting for years to play this game and after all of that time it still did not disappoint! This is fun to play. Completely new but also nostalgicly familiar. It's set up in a way that's good for those who have spent lots of time with these games or even for beginners like my boyfriend who have never played before! You can get lost exploring, cooking, creating, etc. around the world and sometimes completely forgetting about the main quests. I would recommend this game to anyone!

The game is very open and for Zelda, it feels weird, it's very hard at first but before long you get the mechanics down, it turns into the best Zelda game ever.

I have played most of the games in the Zelda franchise, with my favorite being Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time. I pretty much bought a Switch just for this game. Have probably put at least 50 hours into the game, but I haven't gotten bored yet. Exploration is the best part of the game. I haven't been interested in exploring big maps since Guild Wars 2. The difficulty was a bit rough at first, but after getting used to the controls and building up an arsenal of upgrades I can take on anything in the game. Overall it is definetly worth playing and likely game of the year material.

Hands down this is the best Zelda game since A Link to the Past. The open world perfects what I wanted from other open world titles in the past five years and is the first with gameplay that had me hooked enough to 100% the game (except for all of those Korok puzzles, of course). Each Shrine gives you a new experience which feels like Portal test chambers instead of a Zelda dungeon which was brilliant. Having the game on the Switch was a great experience just to show the power of what you can take on the go with you and definitely gives me more options of when and where to play this wonderful game.

After 30 years of Zelda games, Nintendo went back to its roots and just put you in the middle of nowhere and encourage you to explore. It works. You will encounter Bokoblin camps which encourage different techniques to take them, mini-dungeons with puzzles, and a very vertical environment which encourages the player to explore bby climbing. And this is just the first hour! The game continually offers more systems and more gratification for the entire duration. A masterpiece.

Breath of the wild throws out a lot of the old and brings in a lot of brand new features. Link and Zelda are of course back to save Hyrule again. At it's root it's a third person action adventure game with puzzles, however it's not quite like other times you've ventured into Hyrule. The world has 4 dungeons instead of the dozen or so from past games. Instead the world is saturated by small bite sized puzzle or combat challenges called shrines. Combat is no longer limited to a single sword and shield combination. All weapons have wear and tear and will break far faster than you might expect. You'll be forced to change up your style as you defeat enemies. You will lose the weapons you are using and have to start using weapons retrieved from the enemies you are fighting. This sometimes leads to inventory management stress as you attempt to hold onto a particularly cool weapon to save for a boss fight or are trying to drop a terrible club in favor of a new sword/spear or the like. The over-world map is sprawling. On the Switch the landscape goes on for awhile and has dynamic weather that affects the world around you. You'll see fog and rain at times. Even the occasional thunderstorm that can cause you to die from a lighting strike if you're not careful. There are mountains that tower over you and caves that lead sometimes to new areas and sometimes to a dead end. Heat and cold will also affect Link as he travels up to the tops of mountains where it's colder or nearer to a volcano where his clothes can catch fire. There is a food and loot system where depending on his outfit or food intake can increase or decrease his body temperature keeping him from taking damage in certain areas. The story follows Link as a recently awoken, 100 year old hero, who failed to take on Calamity Gannon. Link of course has lost his memories and must find out where his place is in this world that has found a balance since his defeat. Is it too late? Is there something he can still do? These are the questions it strives to answer and overall It does a good job of providing answers. It uses a hybrid visual style reminiscent of Ocarina of Time but has cell shaded explosions. It's character models are cartoony and fun. Safe to play with kids around as it's equivalent to any Saturday morning cartoon. Overall Breath of the Wild takes a lot of inspiration from other games. It almost doesn't feel like a Zelda game at times. That being said it's been a pure pleasure to play and experience. It's an easy recommendation to old fans or those who have never played a Zelda game. This is especially true if you've picked up a switch and want to experience a truly amazing video game near launch.

    The Most-Engaging Zelda I've Played

I'm not as much a fan of Zelda as my fiance is. That being said, i've played a few of the main games in the series – mainly during the Nintendo 64 era (as well as the remasters for the 3DS). I probably won't have the nostalgia for this game like I do for the others, nor will it be quite as memoriable in terms of characters or gameplay. But somehow this game is still one of the best I've ever played. The pickup and play ability of it is perfect. It's unique and open world suits Link – even if I've never been an open world fan. Just get it. I haven't met anyone who regretted the decision.

The result, for all the longevity of its series and the familiarity of the open-world genre, is a game that evokes feelings we haven’t known for 20 years. Not since Ocarina Of Time have we set foot in a world that seems so mind-bogglingly vast, that feels so unerringly magical, that proves so relentlessly intriguing. Plenty of games promise to let us go anywhere and do anything; few, if any, ever deliver on it so irresistibly. Nineteen years on, Ocarina is still held up as the high-water mark of one of gaming’s best-loved – and greatest – series. Now it may have to settle for second place.

Legend of Zelda is always a classic. This game definitely meets with todays standards of gameplay with a TRUE & VAST open-world sandbox environment, which is a first for Nintendo. The visuals in this game are truly beautiful, even if you are not aware of the Zelda franchise. I found myself taking many in-game screenshots and would even venture out to find some good locations to take screenshots. This game is what Zelda was always meant to be, with no limitations. Also, be aware that is a LONG game with a lot of side quests. However, there are also a lot of in-game goodies to unlock...

I love this game. I just bought my son a switch earlier this month and saw a review for this game and had to have it. I've put in so many hours on it and it never gets boring. My son, who is six, is also obsessed. It's so well done and I can tell will be replay-friendly for years to come. The game is an amazing open-world game with a great story and fun characters. One of the best games I've played in recent years.

Must Own Game If You Have a Switch

I haven't played every Zelda game, but this one is by far the best one I've played. The open world is a lot of fun to explore and the game gives you a lot of fun challenges without being overly frustrating. It's a really beautiful game too, especially considering the hardware it's running on. I only have one small gripe and that's that the motion controls for aiming feels a little shoehorned in and can be a bit frustrating to use; fortunately they can be turned off in the settings. Zelda fan or not I think this is pretty much a must own game if you have a Switch.

This game is very different from the preceding Zelda games. It is more open, larger, and feels like a more modern game. Overall it works well but there are some decisions that I'm not a fan off, namely the decaying weapons and cooking being so required. I don't mind those things in games but I dislike being forced to participate. Despite that its not enough to knock the review down from 5 stars because that is just a weird personal preference.

As a big nintendo fan when I was a child, I have jumped to the "adult gamer" world after college playing PS4 and XBOX One with those "mature" and "sophisticated" setups (Honestly I have never owned a Wii U). However, Nintendo Switch and this game bring the nostalgic feeling I had 10-15 years ago. All the puzzle solving, the gorgeous natural scenes, and the funny dialogues are just spectacular, not to mention the full-space, continuous immersion of the vast worldview. Pokemon+Monster Hunter+Final Fantasy+..., this one game awakes the memories playing multiple remarkable pieces in youth.

Best Game on the Switch Currently

LoZ: BotW is one of the best in the series to date. Controls are tight, world has many things to do (doesn't suffer as much from the empty world like Twilight Princess did). The story is standard Zelda, the difference is that the game lets you do the dungeons in any order. As such, all the runes (special powers) are given from the get-go. The difficulty of the dungeons is on the easier side. The largest complaint I have is with the weapons system. All equipment besides armor (like sword, shield, and bow) can break on repeated usage. This ends up meaning most weapons break after killing a couple enemies. This becomes more of a annoyance than anything else. Game is close to being perfect if it didn't have this problem. Also be warned, the game runs on the Switch with a higher clock on the hardware, so on battery performance does deplete faster than some other games. That's to be expected though. In the end, it's an essential play on the Switch and showcases the power of the console pretty well. It's fun to play on TV and in handheld.

Now, I have never really been a Zelda fan (Ocarina of Time was the last Zelda game played), but this is one fantastic game. The graphics, although cell shaded, have many stunning & breathtaking moments. It definitely seems like the developers really spent their time making even the most minute details stand out. The only complaints I have would be the game is much too easy and the story is quite boring. But the quality of gameplay and expansiveness definitely make up for these shortcomings. Overall, this game really stands out in the Open World genre. Definitely would recommend.

This isn't just my favorite Zelda game, it's my favorite game period. It's a masterpiece. The story and art are amazing. It's a beautiful game. You can spend hours just roaming around admiring the world. There's a lot of content in this game as well. Besides the main story, there are tons of side quests, plus all the shrines and koroks to find. I got the DLC as well, which I could also recommend, and that adds a lot of additional things to work on. Please buy this if you haven't already!

Breath of the Wild is by far the greatest LoZ I've ever played. The control scheme takes some getting used to, but before long, you'll be a pro. The map size is fantastic, having already spent numerous hours just climbing mountains to see what I might find hidden within them. The story seems fairly expensive, but I've spent more time wandering/exploring/scavenging than anything. Definitely give this a solid 5*, would recommend for any gaming fan and Switch owner.

While I suspect some folks might be irritated by the weapons breaking all over the place, I liked the forced improvisation. This game is beautiful, mechanically interesting, and it has a solid story you can track down and piece together. The environmental storytelling isn't quite on par with Dark Souls, but it's leagues above Nintendo's other outings, and it makes for some very poignant moments for longtime Zelda fans. One of my favorite entries in the series.
