A Classic
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a faithful remake of Link's Awakening from the GB/GBC era with beautiful updated graphics. It includes the Color Dungeon from the DX version of the original game and has some added features such as the custom dungeon creator. The dungeon creator is a bit drab because it just uses the same rooms from the main story's dungeons so it gets repetitive real quick. There's also a noticeable frame rate issue that happens pretty often any time the overworld is loaded. $60 is pretty steep for a remake of a Game Boy game but Link's Awakening still remains one of my favorite Zelda games. If you haven't played it, you definitely should.

Excellent retro game
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is fun to play and fairly easy to beat, but offers plenty of small challenges to make the game challenging enough. I was able to finish a little faster than I expected but felt I got my money's worth. This is not the epic Breath of the Wild type adventure, if that's what you are expecting.

Just wanted to replay a favorite.
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you've never played it, it's fun, but nothing like the newer Zelda games, so don't expect an epic. If you have played it and are revisiting, the color dungeon wasn't as cool as I wanted it to be. The addition of the dungeons that you make are cool, but...there isn't much of a point unless you are really trying to do EVERYTHING. Then addition of the Mario series figurines is cool too, but also not necessary for completion. All of the additions to the game played out and felt like filler to me. Messed with them for a bit,and called it good. Overall, it's fun, but would be more fun at a lower price point.

Bring back an old classic with a fresh perspective
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is joyful. As soon as you see Link, it's world, and it's characters, you are drawn in to this dream like world. It's cute, welcoming, and adorable. This new presentation eases you into an old, familiar, yet wonderful Zelda experience. The world may be relatively small, but it's filled with great areas and collectibles that are fun to track and worth your while in rewards. The dungeons are equally as rewarding. There are eight dungeons, each unique and bringing their own challenges. There are usually missions to complete around the world in between dungeons, and while backtracking is a factor, the small world makes it easy to become familiar with locations across the map. Fair warning, there are parts of the game that are really difficult. There are points in the game where I had to spin my wheels and had to try for a long time before finding the solutions to puzzles. Younger players may find some difficulties throughout their journey. Overall though, the journey is worth it. This game is a welcome addition to the modern top down Zelda catalog and one that should be experienced by all fans.

Our son adores it
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The most I've played a Zelda game is Breath of the Wild, which - as I have been told - is "not a Zelda game." So I may be a poor reviewer of this product. I can say, however, that the Link's Awakening remake looks great, sounds great, and is far less overwhelming to our 8-year old son. The graphics are very attractive and the soundtrack is the one you've heard played by symphony orchestras for the past 20 years. The gameplay is great. I much prefer the Switch joysticks to the GameBoy D-Pad. Having more buttons on the Switch means more stuff to do! Can I compare this to the 1993 game? No, but I can say that this version holds up very well even against other games I could be playing on the Switch. As mentioned, our son just loves it. He gets worked up sort of easily over Breath of the Wild, and this has been a nice notch down kind of game. He has little difficulty with it and when he does, he is engaged enough to work it out. I find that to be the best part of Link's Awakening - my son wants to figure it out. I recommend the game and I would buy it again if we lost it.

A Link to a walkthrough
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Link’s Awakening is a charming and visually delightful remake that brings a beloved classic to life with a fresh coat of paint. The adorable art style and polished presentation make it one of the most visually distinctive Zelda titles to date. A nice bonus is the free upgrade for Switch 2 users, ensuring better performance on newer hardware. However, at its core, this is still a Game Boy game. The gameplay retains the simplicity—and sometimes the quirks—of early '90s design. Puzzles can feel a bit convoluted, and the progression isn’t always intuitive, especially by modern standards

A cute remake of the 1993 classic
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In contrast with the relative seriousness and gravity of other games in the Zelda series, this one revels in being goofy and whimsical, which reflects in the people, puzzles, plotline, and art direction. While you can explore freely, most of the required exploration is linear and well-hinted, and the fast travel system minimizes the pain of any backtracking required. I had a lot of fun with this one over a series of evenings. The game is not super long (making it more approachable than some of the other games in the series), and I was never bored while playing. Definitely worth a play.

This remake doesn't disappoint!
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're looking for a 100+ hour haul - this is not the game for you - (check out Breath of the Wild). Link's Awakening took me about 20 hours to beat every possible boss, gather every possible extra, and get a 100% completion rating. Wonderful game, just don't think you'll be playing it for weeks on end!

Perfect Top Down Zelda
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i have vague memories of the original Link’s Awakening on classic Gameboy. i think i borrowed it from a friend and got to through a couple of dungeons. quite a few things about the beginning portion were very familiar, but it quickly became a brand new adventure for me. as such, i can say, i feel this game is satisfying both from a nostalgic point of view and one for new comers. if you like classic top down zelda games, this has the old school feel down to a T. but it’s been updated and refreshed to make it feel like it was made just yesterday. why is that special? well... for those who played the original zelda games: you’ll know just how creative the puzzles are, how they rely on you using your own intuition to solve them (instead of in game prompt or hand holding), and how fleshed our and bizarre the characters are. this is the perfect zelda to follow the massive success of Breath of The Wild with... not because they are similar (they’re not), but because they scratch an entirely different itch for the same market of fans. one you may not even know you had.

The classic Gameboy, reborn with toy-like life!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For anybody who was around in the days of the Gameboy, the precursor to the likes of the DS/3DS, and even the Switch itself, Link's Awakening was a must-have title. A quirky, almost satirical take on the then young series, the very first handheld outing for the franchise exploded into popularity that has last well over two decades. The remake boasts all of the improvements of the title's Gameboy Color rerelease, along with many new features such as the Chamber Dungeon, and Amiibo functionality. The toy-like graphics bring to mind the classic 2D sprites of old, reimagined with the power of 3D polygons, capturing the cute and whimsical style of the characters in a whole new way. The music has also been remade to be much richer than ever before, while still evoking the same memorable melodies that captivated the original players of the 1993 title. If you're new to the Zelda series, or have only cut your teeth on its first Switch outing, Breath of the Wild, you owe it to yourself to try out this legendary entry in the long-running series.

True to the original
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this game because the original was the first Zelda game I had played, and this held up very well to that. The HD world was fun to explore, and the new challenges added enough to keep the game fresh. If this is the quality we can expect from remakes from Nintendo, I will be purchasing more.

A fresh take on a classic game
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you played the original Game Boy version like I did, it’s literally the same game. It’s not completely unchanged—obviously there are fresh graphics as well as upgrades to things like the fishing game and the Secret Seashell concept. The new dungeon creator feature is cool as a diversion, but I wouldn’t say it adds a ton to the game. For me, this rework of a beloved game was a perfect hit of nostalgia with enough updates to feel like a brand new game even though I already knew every trick and puzzle. Fans of the classic, don’t worry, it feels like the original but with way better controls. If you’ve never played Link’s Awakening in one of its prior forms, it’s an amazing if easy Zelda game. Just remember it started as a Game Boy game and (and at it’s heart still is) and you won’t be disappointed.

A Faithful Remake and More!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In this beautifully remastered installment of the Legend of Zelda series, you're in the midst of riding out a powerful thunderstorm at sea when your boat crashes. As you awaken, you find yourself on the mysterious Koholint Island. Your task? You must awaken the Wind Fish. Whilst on you quest, you will meet plenty of friendly characters and see more than a few familiar faces - Goombas, Cheep-cheeps, Bloopers, Shy Guys, Boos, a Chain Chomp, Piranha Plants, Buzzy Beetles, Pokeys, Spinys, Wart (the final boss from Super Mario Bros. 2, known as "Mamu" in this game) and Bob-Ombs, to name a few. That's right! We've got MARIO enemies! Of course there are some Zelda staples, too - Hinox, Stalfos, Moblins, Keese, Octorocks, and more. If you own ANY variant of the Nintendo Switch, you SHOULD get this game!

Great Legend of Zelda game for the Nintendo Switch
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Link's Awakening is the reason I bought the Nintendo Switch. I played this game on the Gameboy, and feel in love with it. As soon as I saw the ads for this game on the Switch, and I knew I had to get the console, and the game doesn't disappoint. It brings me back to the original game, but the improvements are extraordinary. The graphics are very clear and the 3D effects just jump at you. The game runs fluidly, and the gameplay is still as challenging as before. Maybe a little easier because I beat the game before. It does have a "hero" option where hearts are not dropped by enemies, nor can you find them in bushes or by breaking pots. Another improvement from the old game is that you don't need to use the 'A' or 'B' buttons to use certain things like the power bracelet or Pegasus boots. They're automatically added to Link's abilities. The movement and expressions of all the characters are a plus. The game is short, when compared to other Legend of Zelda games, but I still think this is worth it.
