Great game, a faithful remake, while updating graphics. The new graphical style is very good looking as well, I’d highly recommend this

If you're looking for a 100+ hour haul - this is not the game for you - (check out Breath of the Wild). Link's Awakening took me about 20 hours to beat every possible boss, gather every possible extra, and get a 100% completion rating. Wonderful game, just don't think you'll be playing it for weeks on end!

    Perfect Top Down Zelda

i have vague memories of the original Link’s Awakening on classic Gameboy. i think i borrowed it from a friend and got to through a couple of dungeons. quite a few things about the beginning portion were very familiar, but it quickly became a brand new adventure for me. as such, i can say, i feel this game is satisfying both from a nostalgic point of view and one for new comers. if you like classic top down zelda games, this has the old school feel down to a T. but it’s been updated and refreshed to make it feel like it was made just yesterday. why is that special? well... for those who played the original zelda games: you’ll know just how creative the puzzles are, how they rely on you using your own intuition to solve them (instead of in game prompt or hand holding), and how fleshed our and bizarre the characters are. this is the perfect zelda to follow the massive success of Breath of The Wild with... not because they are similar (they’re not), but because they scratch an entirely different itch for the same market of fans. one you may not even know you had.

Link's Awakening was a game that I had skipped out on back in the GameBoy days but am very happy they remade so I could experience it for the first time. It has a great world and is very well written. I would definitely recommend picking this up if you are a fan of Zelda games as it will not disappoint.

A fun port of an 8-bit classic that brings the 8-bit feel to the modern world. Classic Zelda with a great soundtrack to boot.

The classic Gameboy, reborn with toy-like life!

For anybody who was around in the days of the Gameboy, the precursor to the likes of the DS/3DS, and even the Switch itself, Link's Awakening was a must-have title. A quirky, almost satirical take on the then young series, the very first handheld outing for the franchise exploded into popularity that has last well over two decades. The remake boasts all of the improvements of the title's Gameboy Color rerelease, along with many new features such as the Chamber Dungeon, and Amiibo functionality. The toy-like graphics bring to mind the classic 2D sprites of old, reimagined with the power of 3D polygons, capturing the cute and whimsical style of the characters in a whole new way. The music has also been remade to be much richer than ever before, while still evoking the same memorable melodies that captivated the original players of the 1993 title. If you're new to the Zelda series, or have only cut your teeth on its first Switch outing, Breath of the Wild, you owe it to yourself to try out this legendary entry in the long-running series.

I purchased this game because the original was the first Zelda game I had played, and this held up very well to that. The HD world was fun to explore, and the new challenges added enough to keep the game fresh. If this is the quality we can expect from remakes from Nintendo, I will be purchasing more.

A fresh take on a classic game

If you played the original Game Boy version like I did, it’s literally the same game. It’s not completely unchanged—obviously there are fresh graphics as well as upgrades to things like the fishing game and the Secret Seashell concept. The new dungeon creator feature is cool as a diversion, but I wouldn’t say it adds a ton to the game. For me, this rework of a beloved game was a perfect hit of nostalgia with enough updates to feel like a brand new game even though I already knew every trick and puzzle. Fans of the classic, don’t worry, it feels like the original but with way better controls. If you’ve never played Link’s Awakening in one of its prior forms, it’s an amazing if easy Zelda game. Just remember it started as a Game Boy game and (and at it’s heart still is) and you won’t be disappointed.

In this beautifully remastered installment of the Legend of Zelda series, you're in the midst of riding out a powerful thunderstorm at sea when your boat crashes. As you awaken, you find yourself on the mysterious Koholint Island. Your task? You must awaken the Wind Fish. Whilst on you quest, you will meet plenty of friendly characters and see more than a few familiar faces - Goombas, Cheep-cheeps, Bloopers, Shy Guys, Boos, a Chain Chomp, Piranha Plants, Buzzy Beetles, Pokeys, Spinys, Wart (the final boss from Super Mario Bros. 2, known as "Mamu" in this game) and Bob-Ombs, to name a few. That's right! We've got MARIO enemies! Of course there are some Zelda staples, too - Hinox, Stalfos, Moblins, Keese, Octorocks, and more. If you own ANY variant of the Nintendo Switch, you SHOULD get this game!

Great Legend of Zelda game for the Nintendo Switch

Link's Awakening is the reason I bought the Nintendo Switch. I played this game on the Gameboy, and feel in love with it. As soon as I saw the ads for this game on the Switch, and I knew I had to get the console, and the game doesn't disappoint. It brings me back to the original game, but the improvements are extraordinary. The graphics are very clear and the 3D effects just jump at you. The game runs fluidly, and the gameplay is still as challenging as before. Maybe a little easier because I beat the game before. It does have a "hero" option where hearts are not dropped by enemies, nor can you find them in bushes or by breaking pots. Another improvement from the old game is that you don't need to use the 'A' or 'B' buttons to use certain things like the power bracelet or Pegasus boots. They're automatically added to Link's abilities. The movement and expressions of all the characters are a plus. The game is short, when compared to other Legend of Zelda games, but I still think this is worth it.

This is perhaps the zaniest Zelda game in existence (yes, including the Philips CD-I games!) I can only imagine the design process at the time. I feel like examples would spoil the surprise, but there are a lot of cameos in this game that you would not expect. The story is typically light fare, but not what you're expecting out of a Zelda game. While the game is gorgeous to look at (not wholly unlike Animal Crossing, but with a wax/claymation slant,) the frame rate struggles just about the entire time.

He has played Zelda before and was so excited to get the new game. He sat down and completed all of his homework and did the writing very well, with the understanding that he would get the game if he behaved, he is thrilled, and said it has some challenging tasks to complete.
