I played through Breath of the Wild 1.5 times yet there was always something off about the game. What I found it to be was the vastness and the lack of cohesion within the story line, and of it being emotionally unappealing. Playing the game for me seemed like a chore and I wanted to like it as well as others did. I’ve been a Zelda fan since the NES. This game, however, starts with a bang and pulled me in. It almost seemed a little too intense thinking about children playing it (the early encounter with Gannon hit hard) but at the same time was very compelling and set the stakes and the tone. Along with the compelling story they have added in aspects mising from BToW that make it feel like a classic Zelda game, that i didnt even realize were missing. All in all this game to me makes the previous entry feel baren and fatigue inducing, and I believe this is a worthy successor, improving in intelligent ways. Nintendo does what they do well and the game designers around the Zelda franchise have done well to learn and make better what was already solid, if lacking in ways that would have appealed more to what I’m looking for in a story-driven game. I almost decided against playing this but am glad I gave it a shot.

Excellent game with tons of content and freedom to do anything you want. Fans of Breath of the Wild will absolutely love this game. Only negatives is that the performance can be quite bad at times, and expect a lot of reused assets from its predecessor. For parents, there are sections of the game that may be a little too difficult for kids under 10.

Is just like botw but 100x better. The story is highly improved! Love the mechanics and the 3x bigger map. Best puechase ever!

This is easily one of the best games in the franchise, speaking as a long-time fan. It takes what was enjoyable about Breath of the Wild, its predecessor, and adds significantly more mechanics and things to discover while keeping said predecessor's core. Even as a standalone game, the story and exploration are some of the best the series has.

Absolute gem of a game! I loved Breath of the Wild and played 130+ hours, but easily put 200+ into this game. It has a different feel. Overall, it is easier and directs you much more than BotW. Pros: I much prefer the weapons system and the world is greatly expanded. They found ways to make familiar areas new again. The new powers are great fun and allow for incredible customization. The story is also FAR more interesting to me personally. Cons: the game definitely holds your hand more (although this is a pro for younger/less experience gamers. Outside of the initial area, the sky portions of the game are small in scale and repetitive. Ultimately on par with BotW but different. Improved in many areas but steps back in others. Somehow doesn't capture the same magic but also drew me in to play even longer.

This game exceeded my expectations, being a longtime Zelda fan, this was truly a remarkable experience. It is great to play; with lots of fun and anyone can play it. The price is justified with the amount of content and gameplay. This game is for people that love open world games. I really recommend it to new Zelda players and old.

Tears of the Kingdom takes everything great about Breath of the Wild and makes it even better. The new abilities are super fun, the world is bigger and more exciting to explore, and there’s always something surprising around the corner. Whether you’re building crazy contraptions or diving into deep story moments, it’s an absolute blast from start to finish. Easily one of the best games out there!

I played BOTW, so when I heard that TOTK was being released, I preordered it immediately. TOTK has more content than BOTW and has been a joy to complete. In addition to a great story, TOTK has an amazing soundtrack. I recommend this game to anyone who likes exploration and open world environments. I believe that beginners and hardcore players would find enjoyment playing this game.

In the conversation of "best game ever made"

I've been gaming for over 30 years. Tears of the Kingdom is likely the most impressive video game ever made from a pure gameplay perspective. Nintendo could have phoned it in to essentially create be Breath of the Wild 2, but instead built on and expanded on an already rock solid foundation to bring us something that feels distinct despite taking place in the same (but reworked) environment. Its hard to find flaws in the game, but if there is one, it may be that among the sheer variety of ways to approach combat and exploration given to you, there are some which could be considered somewhat overpowered and trivialize some of the challenges faced. Ultimately its up to the player to decide if they want to abuse the mechanics and items to make things easier, and employing them does not necessarily mean the enjoyment of the game suffers. Tears of the Kingdom will be talked about for years to come and will doubtless go down as one of the greatest games ever made. Anyone that is a fan of adventure and open world games needs to play this.

Being a huge fan of Zelda BOTW, I had to get TOTK. The game is wonderful and you can do almost anything you want. It is almost the same world as BOTW, but with an added underworld and sky map. I did not find it to be better than BOTW, but it is hard to describe why. I guess the similar layout as the first game and almost being godlike made it a little more boring than the first. Still a phenomenal game and worth playing.

Tears of the Kingdom is a game that pushes the boundaries of what is possible in open-world gaming, and it delivers an experience that is both exhilarating and unforgettable. Taken place in the same world as Breath of the Wild, but it has been transformed by the events of that game. Hyrule is now a more dangerous and unforgiving place, but it is also more beautiful and mysterious than ever before. Tears of the Kingdom introduces a number of new gameplay mechanics, including the ability to manipulate the sky and create your own paths through the world. This gives you a level of freedom and creativity that is simply unmatched by any other game. The game's story is also excellent. The characters are well-developed and believable. Tears of the Kingdom is a game that will stay with you long after you have finished playing it. It is a game that is truly one of a kind

It’s all about the way you use Link’s Abilities

I’ll be honest. At first, I wasn’t really connecting with this game as much as I did with Breath of the Wild. The more I played, the more it seemed like I was experiencing similar things from the past game under a new name. I won’t go into details as to not delve into spoilers. However, the more I played, the more I started to see that the focus here was not purely exploration like it was in Breath of the Wild. The exploration is certainly still there with an entirely revamped world. Rather, this game is really centered around how you tackle on your exploration and discovery with Link’s many new abilities. In breath of the Wild, the player could tackle obstacles in a variety of different ways, but Tears of the Kingdom takes it further. Link’s abilities working with each other are what really make this game incredible in an entirely different way to Breath of the Wild. Please, if you loved breath of the Wild and are looking to rediscover Hyrule in a new way, this is the best purchase you can ever make. 1000% worth the $70 and the wait.

This game solves some of my gripes from breath of the wild. Also, going into it being familar with the game mechanics from the start also helped. And finally, they give you more direction and tips from the start, instead of just dropping you in a field full of things that want to kill you. So, it starts out much better. Finally, weapons are much easier to come by, and the system to fuse them to other things (or each other), makes weapons a bit more tolerable when the break. The story is also a bit more cohesive and directional at the start, leaving less guessing and stumbling, and more targeted goals, at least for the first few hours, until they really open things up for you. My advice is to explore, but keep the main quest going until you get the paraglider back. At that point the game really opens up and you can get back to your full breath of the wild antics. I like this ramp up much better than what felt like aimless wandering and happenchance in the first game.

Can’t believe Nintendo really made a sequel to one of the best games, if not the best of all time. His was originally supposed to be JUST be DLC. I love the fact they just said forget it, we have too much material & went ALL OUT. They went above & beyond, & this game had the longest development time of any other Zelda (6 years). Well worth the wait, & this game will keep you busy for a long time. Savor it, take your time, & enjoy!

Im not a big Zelda fan, this being only the 2nd Zelda game I've played. With that said, it's a real improvement on Breathe of the Wild. Ive found myself far more interested and engaged with the gameplay and story. Also far more room for creativity which is always nice to have.

Without spoiling anything, this game is what BoTW brought forth as a launch title for the Switch, and ramped that up to it's best form in Tears of the Kingdom. Story-beat wise, I was and am still impressed with everything - the only thing holding the game back is the hardware its on.

Tears of the Kingdom makes Breath of the Wild look like a technical demo. Outstanding evolution of game systems, an engaging story that keeps you guessing as to what’s next, and all the exploration hallmarks of The Legend of Zelda. Quite possibly the Game of the Year for 2023.

Was very easy to order online and pick up. The game is incredible, easily the best switch game to date IMO, based on the sheer amount of content, the quality of the content, and the consistent/smooth performance. Will easily sink a few hundred hours into this game and I'm looking forward to every minute. The only "flaw" might be that there is almost too much to do. If you don't have a lot of time to play, then you likely won't get to experience a lot of the content in the game. It can feel overwhelming at times, but you just have to lean into the open-world design and be okay with spending hours exploring, building, fighting, etc rather than always being focused on the main story. Even so, I would still highly recommend this game regardless of how much time you have to play, as it has some of the most unique game mechanics and fantastic combat, enemy design, puzzles, etc that I have ever seen in a video game.

Tears of the Kingdom has surpassed all expectations with its breathtaking world, captivating storyline, and innovative gameplay mechanics. As an avid fan of the franchise, I can confidently say that ToTK is an absolute masterpiece that deserves every bit of its five-star rating. One of the most exciting additions in ToTK is the introduction of two new areas: the awe-inspiring Sky Islands and the mysterious Depths. These regions expand the already vast world of Hyrule, offering players a whole new dimension to explore. The Sky Islands provide a vertigo-inducing experience, as you navigate floating landmasses suspended high above the ground, while the Depths plunge you into the dark unknown, uncovering hidden secrets and ancient ruins. The level of detail in these areas is simply awe-inspiring, making exploration an absolute joy.
