Ok now Im one of those fans that went out and bought everything that was on the market with a Roy Orbison song on it that I didnt have. For the longest time however all fans of Roy's found themselves in the depths of despair cause of the lack of material being released. Over and over again greatest hits with the same songs on the package was released, but under a different name. Then in the summer of 2006, a box set was finally talked about that would cover his entire career, little did his fan base ever imagine what would be coming our way. First off, no one and I mean no one can compare this to the Bear Family set, this one is hundreds of dollars literally cheaper, and it has known songs on it from "Only The Lonely, Oh Pretty Woman, You Got It", and more. On the flip side of that is extremely rare tunes from all his records he made in the late 60s and 70s when his career was on the downturn. Every fans dream came true when he heard of TWELVE, unreleased songs coming our way from the vaults. One of them is from his final concert on Dec 4th "Its Over", just the track alone is worth the money being paid on this set, to sit and think that only two days later his voice would be silenced. It will be extremely hard for many fans to listen to that for the first time. Grab ahold of this, cause it is indeed as the package says "The Definitive Collection"

After all this time to release music, interviews and photos that have never been seen or heard before is really surprising. The sheer volume of this set, covering his entire career, is unparalleled. You can easily see the thought and care that went into the packaging. The book reveals even more still about who and why Roy's contribution remains so significant.

I am fifteen years old, and most people would think I don’t know who Mr. Roy Orbison is. My mother thinks I was born in the wrong era, and maybe I was because Roy’s music is my obsession. He always spoke the truth in such a delicate, beautiful way. The Soul of Rock and Roll is just perfect and it’s my new favorite thing. Thank you to those who insist on keeping the Soul of Roy alive in us all~

Just bought it today at the Best Buy in Harrisburg and loved it the whole way home.... I must say this album is a long time coming.... 20 years to be exact. Finally a perfect tribute to the great singer who ever lived. It's a sad thing that today's youth don't recognize Roy as being on of the most influential singers of the 20th Century. Receiving praise from many other legends, Roy Orbison's career was cut short by a heart attack. I have always loved Roy and his love songs. R.I.P. I must say, I have always loved Roy growing up. My daddy used to always play him, and listening to the music makes me think of my late father.... I cannot wait to get my hands on this piece of history. I have already pre-ordered it, and am anticipating its arrival. I had the chance to sneak peak this wonderful box set and didn't want to let it go. It is a MUST HAVE for any lover of music! It truly is a masterpiece. We love you, Roy!

I must say that it is so very obvious that the Orbison family put A LOT of time and effort into this box set. Everything about it is exceptional. I don’t think Roy would have had or wanted it any other way. Although all of the musical content is nothing short of fulfilling, it is the booklet inside that will urge me to tell every Orbison fan to go out now, and get this set.

I am such an ‘Oh, Pretty Woman’ fan, which is what first got me hooked to Roy. My mother bought me the box set for my birthday (today) and it’s been playing around my house all day. Disk three is my favorite so far with ‘Mean Woman Blues’, ‘Unchained Melody’, the live version of ‘Land of 1000 Dances’, and of course, ‘Oh, Pretty Woman’.

It’s got all the classics and I couldn’t be happier with the song selection; there’s a little bit of everything. It is a hard thing to do—taking 50 years of great music and narrowing down which songs to put on a box set, but it was definitely pulled off phenomenally.

I just bought two copies, one for my mother, who I swear, would leave my dad is she had the opportunity to be with Roy, and one for myself, because I just love his later stuff. Roy Orbison is a true part of rock and roll history, a true legend whose influence has impacted countless numbers of other legends. Roy’s talent and ability should be more recognized. “Mean Woman Blues” is the greatest song ever!

Having the ten demo recordings is the best part! I’m a big fan hearing music in more of a raw/uncut form, which is why I love the demos. You really get to capture the essence of Roy’s voice. This was definitely a well thought-out playlist for a box set. Great job!

I’ve always been a Big-O fan, but have a limited selection of his songs on my iPod. I went out and bought this set today, and am so glad I did. Now I’ve got all the greatest hits, plus new/unreleased material, and some live recordings too! It’s all there! The booklet inside is great too—I learned a lot. Thanks!

I really would be interested in knowing how long this entire project took because this box set is flawless. Honestly. You’ve got 107 songs, new releases, and an incredible booklet inside. Kudos to those who spent time making it just right—you did it.

i just picked up this box set today and am through the first two CDs... and let me tell you it's already worth it! i really didnt know that there was so much unreleased music in his collection.... i love this box set and wish they would have come out with it sooner. i also love the book that comes with it!!!

The layout of ‘The Soul of Rock and Roll’ is great! The disks were compiled in a great way; each one focusing on a certain era of Roy’s career. It was certainly worth the wait, and I highly doubt it let anyone down. Five stars in my book.

Just got this album yesterday at BestBuy. Am enjoying it so much today, I am on the 2nd cd, I love it, Any Roy Orbison fan must have this in their collection. covers the entire life of Roy Orbison's music career, right down to the last concert, 2 days before he died, with "It's Over",

I consider myself to be one of Roy’s younger fans and the first song I heard of his was ‘Crying’. I treated myself to the Soul of Rock and Roll and I am more than impressed. I’ve been listening to Roy and k.d. lang sing on repeat for the last hour.

I would have to agree with the three prior reviews. I am from Texas and was always into Roy. Black and White Nights has to be my all time favorite DVD. I love the song he does with Bruce Springsteen. Roy is the man!

The only thing that could have made this box set any better would be if Roy himself popped out of the book and started singing a song about me.

Save your money and buy a Greatest Hits single CD. Unless you’re really in to ORBS ‘not so great’ music, the extras in this set really aren’t worth it. The quality of the entire set is very good….. The music sounds great. However, anyone but a true Orbi-phile probably wouldn’t listen to most of the extras but one time (if that). Since the real hits are scattered among 4 CDs, there’s a lot of ‘not so easy’ listening in between.
