    Is the blues alive?

Yes, the blues are alive. It is not however the classic blues that many pine for. Those days and musicians are gone. However musicians like Gary Clark Jr. are making their version of the blues. A mix of styles and genres with a base that is blues. That is not a slam in anyway. It is the future which can take some getting used too. Depending on the person and how much they revere the blues classics. This is not B.B. or Muddy. This is Gary.

I was a little disappointed at the lack of rockin blues on this album, it's more funky R&B with a fresh take as Gary Clark Jr is quite effective at. I prefer his works such as "Bright Lights". Nonetheless this album is very good for what it is and I will continue to purchase his work. Take your classic old man blues artists, throw in some Marvin Gaye and put a fresh spin on and you have Gary Clark Jr. A burgeoning superstar.

Have seen Gary Clark Jr in concert a couple of times, he's excellent live, never bought any of his CD's before, so I thought I would give this one a shot, not sure why, but it just didn't do it for me.

Gary Clark is an outstanding guitar player. His new songs are a mixture of jimmy Hendrix blues and John Mayer blues. New songs are good.

If you are looking for the bluesy GCJ, there is some here, but not like before. Still a solid effort.

He has strayed from the blues. A few good songs and the rest sound like a Prince album. Disappointed

Not quite as complete as some of his earlier work, top to bottom it is a little uneven

I love Gary Clark Jr. but feel this album misses the mark. He's such an incredible guitar player, but doesn't showcase it here. I would have liked more unique melodies and some killer guitar solos.

I enjoy this album but I wish there was more of a bluesy vibe to it. It is worth checking out but maybe not if you are expecting the blues.

Not one of my favorite albums by Gary but its not his worst by far. Just lacking a bit in the lyrics so for the real die hard fans.
