Good introductory personal massager
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife and I obtained the Theragun Prime as an alternative to a decades-old, whole-back, electric massager. As we enjoy trying to alleviate the stress after a particularly trying day or after a physical day in the yard, we realized something that could be more targeted to trouble spots and specific needs would come in handy. The box was impressively minimalistic, along the lines of Apple products. It was simply black and white, without all the shouty colors, fonts, and languages that other products use to try to draw in consumers. Right away it provided a feeling of sophistication through simplicity. Unpacking the box revealed an injection-molded inner liner with cutouts for the massager and its related accouterments. These included the adapter for charging, three additional massage heads, and a small box with all the paperwork, of which there is a small amount, including a decal. There was also a velvet bag to keep the unit stored in when not in use. Getting everything set up was relatively straightforward, but there was some confusion as to what needed to be done first. Going through the small pamphlet gave the impression that it was set up and ready to go, but it wasn’t until page 3 when we learned that it needed to be charged first. This set us back about a half-hour as we waited. While waiting, we downloaded and installed the app, as there were no further documents that gave insight into the use of the unit. The app is a major sticking point for us. There are a couple of “ughs” that both my wife and I had, some similar, some based on personal preferences: - There’s no way to tell if multiple profiles can be set up, or if the massager is now “locked” to one person. If so, it makes no sense as we plan to be using it on each other. I downloaded the app to see if a separate profile was required. I was able to create my own account, however it would not locate the device. I kept receiving the alert that Bluetooth needed to be turned on on my phone (it was), and the device needed to be turned on (it was). That alone seemed ridiculous to hold a rapidly vibrating machine while trying to sync with my phone. It seems that, because it’s already paired with my wife’s phone, it’s unable to pair with mine as well. - Once the app is up and running, the list of available routines is annoying. There are 10 in the default list, but there isn’t any way to go back in the list; you have to cycle all the way through the list of 10 before being able to go back to the beginning. In this vein, you have to swipe on the photo of the routine in order to go through the cycle. If you’ve scrolled down to read the process, you can’t move forward from there. - The routines in the app are easy to understand, i.e., “move the unit from A to B for effectiveness”, but they are in no way designed for an individual to perform a massage on themselves. For example, I cannot give myself an effective neck massage because I cannot see A) my neck, or B) the point on my back/shoulders to move the unit from A to B. The only warnings regarding injury are printed on a 2”x3” paper in tiny letters not to go above the C4 vertebrae or above the Adam’s apple. Or one’s genitals. For my wife and I, this isn’t a problem since we’ll use it on each other, but for those who are by themselves it makes things much harder. Besides, the contortions necessary to utilize the unit effectively per the routines negate the effects of the massage. The unit itself is very nice. The grips are thick enough to be held comfortably, while the weight is manageable through an entire routine. The handle is a triangle, which allows it to be held in a variety of positions, and that’s useful. My complaint about the size of the triangle has to do with the size of my hands. If the unit is held upright, with the Theragun logo level and facing you, the base of the triangle, as a handle, does not work. My hands are uncomfortably fit between the two angles. The noise level is good, too. My wife was massaging my shoulders, and we were able to carry on a conversation at normal levels despite it being that close to my ears. Our seven-year-old was watching TV approximately 30 feet away, and he said he could hear it, but it wasn’t at the point where he needed to increase the volume or get closer to the TV. My wife, however, was concerned about the noise level and how it transmitted to interfere with our nine-month-old daughter’s nap. It’s definitely much quieter, though, than the full-back massager we currently have. Operation works best, in my opinion, when there is the ability to apply pressure during operation. I enjoy deep tissue, and it provided the best results when my wife was pushing in on the unit. If you just let the vibration go, it has a tendency to “walk” around the area instead of focusing on the affected area. Changing the massage heads is very easy as well, although, if you’re using multiple heads during one of your regular routines, you run the risk of burning yourself while changing heads, based on the warnings printed on the aforementioned tiny piece of paper. Overall, once we become familiar with its use and the various massage heads, I can see this unit becoming a regular part of our routine. It can focus much more easily on specific spots, and the built-in routines allow for the right amount of use without overtaxing the body and causing injury. There are some areas in the user profile portion, namely the app, that could use some tweaking, as well as in the actual operation with user friendliness to prevent injury, but it does well to provide relief.

Effective and Ergonomic
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Theragun Prime is a great option for those in need of a personal deep tissue massaging device. The assorted attachments and power settings make this pretty versatile, as does the design which allows for self use in a number of different positions. The standard massage head is quite large and fairly soft, which allows for usage on tender spots. The heads get progressively more focused and allow you to really pinpoint specific areas of need. When used on the lower back, I generally use one of the two larger heads, which help to relieve a significant amount of pain that I generally feel from my lower back through my legs. When pinpointing areas around my shoulder (if I wake with a knot in my should for instance), I find the smaller attachments tend to work better. Beyond the attachments, the device is also quieter than I assumed it would be; it's still obvious when it's running, but it's not so loud as to disturb someone in the next room. This speaks to the build quality of the unit; it has a sturdy feeling and the motor seems to be well made and should last quite a while. My only real complaint is that the device intensity setting doesn't go any lower. Certain areas of my back can't handle even the lowest setting, so that's something they may work on in the future. Overall, however, this is a great option for those looking to mitigate chronic muscle aches. The wireless ability (with great battery life), build quality, and ergonomics of the Theragun Prime make this a top notch personal massaging device.

Feels Great
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Theragun Prime works great at soothing aching muscles. It’s light weight and the triangular handle shape makes it easy to change grips to reach different areas. It’s not very loud. I would say it’s about as noisy as a box fan. It has a small LED display that shows 1-5 bars indicating the power level and 3 dots indicating the battery level. It is cordless and the battery lasts quite a while, enough for multiple daily massage sessions before needing to be recharged with the included charger. It comes with 4 easy to change massage heads from soft and broad to harder and more precise pressure, depending on your needs. It also comes with a nice drawstring carrying bag that everything fits in that will easily fit in your luggage or to take to the office. Overall, a well constructed device that delivers a soothing and relaxing massage where you need it.

Great pain relieve, just a little noisy...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm going to start with the less attractive part which is the noise. It makes some noise, it is not annoying but you can find it a little uncomfortable at the beginning, after using the Theragun a few times, you get use to it. It happened the same with the feeling of the device vibration in the upper levels, but every time you use your Theragun you'll feel more confident. Let's move to the interesting part, the performance. I think this product can be used for virtually anyone but in practice if you don't follow the instruction in the app and primarily you don't inform about the product and its uses, you could hurt yourself. The performance of this massager is excellent, it has 5 levels and it comes with 4 interchangeable attachments. First of all you have to download the app, register and follow the instructions in order to get the best experience. Once you know what type of program your going to select in the app, you can start using the Theragun and control it from your phone, that it's really cool and useful. After the first use you may have a wonderful night, I used it at night and later went to bed, when I wake up, I felt like I slept like a baby haha, seriously it is great. I absolutely recommend this massager. It comes with a charger, 4 attachments, and a a fine quality travel pouch, so nice and the Theragun Prime massage device.

A smarter, quieter Theragun
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As someone with an abundance of issues with my neck and back, my discovery of percussive massage devices a few years ago was a game changer. Theragun products have always been regarded as some of the best options available for this kind of work, and the Theragun Prime manages to take what was already a solid product and improve on it. Inside the box you'll find everything you need to get started: the gun itself, a set of four swappable massage heads, and a cloth carrying case to hold it all. The gun itself is fairly sleek and very well designed, with a distinctive triangle handle that allows you to comfortably grip it regardless of the awkward angles you need to adopt to reach the various trouble spots on your back. It's still no substitute for having a second person who can operate the thing for you, but it's arguably the next best thing. The overall aesthetic is fairly minimal, with an LED display showing battery life and the current speed pretty much the only notable adornments. A lot of effort has also been made to make this new version substantially quieter than previous models. While it's still far from silent, it is a marked improvement that I imagine most people who've used a Theragun before will appreciate. The other new feature which I was admittedly a bit skeptical about is the new smart features, which allows the gun to interface with an app on your phone. The app will walk you through various exercises to address common trouble spots such as knots, tech neck, or carpal tunnel as well as more generalized routines to help you release tension before bed or prepare for a workout. In addition to telling you where to move the device and controlling the precise speed, the app also monitors the pressure you're applying and lets you know if you need to adjust your technique. My first thought was that I wouldn't have much use for this feature, as I've been using a very similar device for years, but I was surprised how much I ended up appreciating the added guidance. As it turns out, I was going easier on myself than I probably should have all this time. The exercises it walked me through to address tension in my upper back and neck were a bit more punishing than I was used to, bordering on painful in a few spots, but once they were done I was astonished to see how much more mobility I had in my left shoulder, which has always been an issue ever since I tore my rotator cuff several years back. It's still not something I fire up every time I use it by any means, but it's definitely helped me to be smarter and more effective about how I use it. Now that I've said all this, I do feel the need to throw in just one more caveat. The way this thing works isn't by actually solving the underlying issues that cause muscle pain. Rather it helps temporarily numb sore spots, making it much easier for them to relax on their own. As such I'd hesitate to recommend it for anyone with a chronic condition which might make it impossible for that to occur. for almost everyone else with occasional aches and pains brought about by poor posture or exercise, a tool like this can be amazing.

Excellent for tough knots
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The good things they say about Theragun are true. Percussion massagers tend to be loud, hard to handle, and unwieldy/heavy - while they do help quite a bit to bust up tough knots, the big handheld thumper models are not convenient whatsoever. Theragun Prime is perfect for athletes on the go (no plug-in required) - the charge lasts about a week, so charging it every week or so is probably enough for most folks. The touch interface is simple enough and prevents accidental activation - and you can easily see how much battery is left at a glance. In terms of attachments, the 4 that come with the Prime are useful for everything from pre-workout warm-ups to post-workout recovery and knot busting. Compared to a thumper, the Theragun is not obnoxiously loud. It's not silent, but it also wouldn't stop you from holding a conversation, hearing your podcast, or your show while you're working out your knots. The shape and weight of the Theragun Prime makes it easy to DIY or have your s/o apply a bit more pressure with both hands. In terms of power, it's definitely in another weight class - it's easily more powerful than the larger thumpers and more accurate than the two-headed percussion massagers, meaning you can get straight on the knot rather than everything around it. Added bonus: the app is actually helpful and guides you through using the device. TheraBody wants *a lot* of health data when you activate it, but you don't have to give them access to that to use the app. Probably most useful: it tells you how much pressure you're using and if you're using too much or too little for the Theragun to be effective. A few "example" routines it has: carpal tunnel, "tech neck", and when you hit "play", it turns the Theragun on for the correct length of time with a timer count-down for each section and walks you through how to guide the Theragun to get maximum benefit. When the timer's up, it shuts off automatically. (You don't have to use this functionality, obviously, but it's a good training tool). Integrated technology that isn't intrusive is a real benefit, and in this case - it'll prevent you from accidentally doing more damage to yourself while trying to loosen up tight muscles. Compared to other percussion massagers I've used (including Theragun knock-offs), this one is the best.

High quality + effective; app a work in progress
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Theragun Prime is a high quality "percussive massage" device designed to help relieve muscle tension, ease knots, and aid in workout recovery. The construction and packaging are superb. This is clearly a very well built medical-class device that is designed to last well into the future. The high quality plastics have soft-touch grippy portions around the handle and the interchangeable percussive massage attachments are made of soft, pliable rubber. The device works by rapidly moving a rubber attachment (multiple attachments are available for different muscle groups). You then simply apply pressure against the muscle groups you wish to massage and the gun does the rest. A cleverly designed handle makes it easy to grip the gun from multiple angles to access otherwise difficult to reach parts of your back and neck. The gun is surprisingly quiet for a percussive device and Theragun have clearly worked on making the overall experience as pleasant as possible. I would have no concerns about using this device in an office or other quiet environment. It is also remarkably effective. I sit at a desk for much of the day and this device has proven very effective at reducing knots and stress in my neck and upper back in just a couple of minutes. The percussive motion takes a bit of getting used to (you may wish to remove your analog watch before use if you wear one), but overall it's easy to use. Battery life has been excellent. I've used the device extensively over the past week and have yet to need to recharge. A battery meter is included on the handle. The device also connects to a smartphone app which can provide guided programs for things like stress relief, knots in your neck, general wellness, and preparation for sleep. Select a program, turn on the handle, and press "start" on the app and it will guide you through the correct placement of the device, correct pressure, and the correct amount of time in each position. This is helpful, but there are still some areas for improvement. I did not find the interface as intuitive as some (do I swipe left or right on these guided programs to save them?) and the guided sessions lack detailed instructions on the correct way to hold the handle to reach each area optimally. Fortunately there are videos on the Theragun website that walk through this, but it would be idea to have this guidance in the app, especially since there are so many different programs available. App growing pains aside, this remains a very high quality and effective device that is easy to recommend to anybody looking for a medically sound way to help with stiff, sore muscles - whether from working out or from sitting too long in one place. Pros: - Great quality construction - Very effective in use - Easy and quiet operation - Guided programs via connected app - Solid battery life Cons: - App is still a work in progress and documentation is sparse - Shaking motion may take some getting used to - The battery charger uses a custom connector rather than a more standard USB connection, so don't lose that charger.

Powerful, Easy to use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Charges fast, simple to use, multiple levels with rapid percussion speeds. The shape seems odd but it makes it easy to reach places if using it yourself. Isn't too loud but that doesn't mean it isn't powerful. Even on its lowest level, it delivers an amazing pressure at a high speed to work out knots and release tension.

Excellent Massage Therapy
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As long as you have the appropriate use in mind for this massage gun, you will be a happy customer. This is not meant to provide a luxurious, deep tissue spa experience, rather the intended purpose is to alleviate tightness/soreness and to accelerate recovery. For that purpose it has served me very well. I live in the PNW do lots of cardio and leg intensive activities such as biking, hiking, tennis, and more. This gun is the best pain I could ask for when my legs muscles are tight. This knocks the knots out and gets that lactic acid down. The drawbacks include noise and the dependency on the app. You cannot operate this machine without using the paired Bluetooth app, and I would advise to pay extra to have a model that allowed a freestyle application of this device if you can afford it. Lastly, the noise is loud in that, when using the device you will have to turn the TV up. If you are working on your neck area, it will be VERY distracting. However, this is a massage THERAPY device--the higher models of this thing are meant for professional training rooms. Professionals aren't looking for quiet, so much as effective. With that in mind, the noise factor is acceptable to me.

FANTASTIC for sore leg muscles!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me preface my review with 2 things: I enjoy a good, firm massage, and have never owned a massager before. Pros: Travel/storage pouch - super handy to keep everything together in the bag! Quiet - though I've never owned a massager before, I would say this is definitely quieter than I was expecting 4 different "heads" for different uses Battery life Cons: The app! There are so many things I would change about the app, but the good thing is, you can get so much out of the device without ever even downloading the app! That being said, I think I am probably in the minority by saying I feel it is actually too much for me (when following the "routines" in the app, at least), even on the lowest settings - for my back when used on a daily basis. My quads, calves, shins, and hamstrings? Oh my gosh, it was amazing. I frequently have issues with randomly sore/tight muscles in my legs and I recently started doing a C25K plan, so it was perfect timing to be able to test the Theragun out! Between focusing on stretching more and utilizing this handy machine, hopefully I can minimize any training issues!

SMOOTH!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is easily one of the smoothest massagers I have used. No matter the level or pressure applied, it easily glides across wherever it's being used. Also, even at the highest setting, it's comfortable. Some other guns make my skin itch. Not here. The gun itself is light, sturdy and easy to grasp. The handle design really does allow reaching in hard to reach places. Usage is straightforward, and the LCD screen is easy to read even in direct sunlight. As for noise, yes it is quiet-"er," but not silent. You can use it in another room, but don't expect not to wake someone next to you. It's not a rumbling noise, more like a low hum. Not bad at all. Impressive for the power it packs. The battery far exceeded my expectation. It notes 120 minutes runtime, I was able to run it for 3 1/2 hours. It was at low/medium setting, so I assume they may be referencing at high levels. Either way, love that! The app is a bit buggy. I like the concept, but I look forward to when it is perfected. The routines and walk throughs will be very useful for developing a regimen. At the moment, they do show, but the timer and follow prompts are spotty. Not enough to remove a star, but noting it needs improvement. Overall, this is a great device. I definitely notice a quicker warm-up period for my lifts and movement drills, and a decrease in soreness over time. Wouldn't have believed it unless I felt it for myself!
