Purchased to recover data off some old hard drives that would no longer boot. Was able to retrieve on all but one drive and that turned out to be a drive hardware issue.

    Can't maintain a reliable connection

The unit is too flakey for serious use. Many times the unit has to be powered off and then back on before my Mac will recognize it. The unit often disconnects in the middle of large file transfers or while processing large video files. I usually set up large file transfers or processing sessions to run overnight and the unit has disconnected in the middle of the night for the last 3 nights. It has had these problems on 3 different computers (a MacPro, an iMac and a Macbook Pro), so it isn't a problem with the computer. I bought 2 of these units and both have had this problem. One of the units won't run at all anymore - the drives won't spin up and the power light doesn't come on. The same power supply works with the other unit, so I know the power supply isn't dead. Save yourself a lot of headaches and lost time by finding a different product.

Just purchased this in the store based on the specifications given on the website. Website says it has USB 3.0 and eSATA interface. SKU from in the store is 9062073 which matches this one. Model was ST0014U-C, again matching this on the website. Got it home and it only had USB 3.0 no eSATA at all. Instruction manual only gives instructions for connecting via USB 3.0.

Used to clone old HDD to new SSD

I bought this at the recommendation of a Geek Squad member as I need to copy / clone an older failing HDD to SSD. The BlacX Duet does copy straight out of the box, but not clone. I download a FREE copy of AOMEI Backupper Standard from the web. Paired with the BlacX Duet the cloning of the old HDD to new SSD was completed in 40 minutes (Length of time may vary based on actual data on the old drive). On the plus side, I now have a BlacX Duet Hard Drive Enclosure Docking Station to perform similar operations in the future or use it with HDD to perform backup on the systems within my house.

    Website information completely inacurate

I needed a replacement Thermaltake unit exactly as the web site described. However Best Buy has decided to take the Thermaltake ST0014U-C and attached the Thermaltake Specifications for a Thermaltake ST0014U to their model. The ST0014U-C was made specifically for Best Buy who decided to REMOVE the eSATA port on the back. Their website specifically claims that the unit has both ports but it doesn't. When I called the store, their response was "oh, well just bring it back and we will refund your money". There was no concern that the information was inaccurate. I only was able to track all of this down after calling Thermaltake directly. The Best Buy Geek Squad was clueless on this matter. I did later call back and ask for a manager who promised they would look into this.

I use this with my mac mini mainly to archive old files AND most recently to save my laptop from the most recent microsoft update. The device works great but sometimes it will randomly eject one of my harddrives. Other than that i have no complaints.

    LARGE DRIVE WARNING !!!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Recently run into issues with drives that I've docked in this unit. After having 2 drives somehow "lose" their format and went back to RAW, I started to do some research and this is the best I can find (Other people have commented on this same issue): DO NOT USE ON 3TB (I think 2TB max is ok ,but I won't guarantee that) OR GREATER capacity drives (personally, I wouldn't use at all until the company clarifies the drive sizes that are supported). Although the drive initially will show the correct size, the problem I believe is that when writing data over 2TB, the drive starts over again (sector 0, or starting sector) and continues writing from there again. This corrupts the necessary tables (boot recs, partition tables, etc). It appears that everything is going alright, until you've written over everything in those critical areas, and this makes the drive appears as it's been corrupted to goes to either RAW or and UnFormatted status. You can possibly use another tool, like Easeus Partition Recovery, to get your data back. But avoid the situation entirely by getting a dock that has been verified to work with larger drives !! Like I said earlier, I think 2 TB is the max for this dock, per drive. Also, been reported that Dock doesn't have a big enough power supply to start 2 drives at once. I didn't seem to have that problem, but be warned on that as well.

The BlacX Duet Hard Drive Enclosure Docking Station is an excellent product. Very fast and capable of handling two SATA drives (2.5" or 3.5") at one time. Highly recommend for the price.

I bought this unit 9/25/15 it worked great with my mac for a while but then just recently it stopped working. I noticed the blue lights were not on, but can hear the hard drives spin up when plugged in. Now I have data on these drives and have to find a solution to get it off. There are no tech stores close by so I guess its a 45 minute trip to best buy to see about a replacement. UGH!

This docking station is the best. You can dock 2 drives at the same time. Everything is pretty automatic so that once you put a drive in it, it shows up right away. Great price.

    $60 Paperweight

Purchased 07/14/2017, the dock performed as expected; however, as the 30 days quickly approached and past, instability issues appeared: within minutes of powering on dock, the newly mounted drives would disappear, and LEDs blinked erratically. While troubleshooting, noticed data corruption of newly created file. While the idea of two slots may truly be awesome, I rather trust my data to a more reliable product. Customer service difficult to reach ... no resolution other than to use this product as a paperweight ... suspect Best Buys' bonus point system for reviews may be skewing true Star Rating for this product ... this is not a 4.3 Stars product and has been found to be dangerous for the longevity of one's data.
