The whole gimmick of recording antenna TV programs is a come-on. You cannot even get the channel guide without a "paid subscription" and if you want to record a program on the DVR you cannot play it back unless you "purchase a subscription package" The whole point of saving money is a complete misnomer when you have to pay for the box and then pay to be able to use it. For a few $$ more go for a basic direct TV package and get extra channels and a free DVR and play on demand.

    I LOVE this DVR

I've been a Directv customer for the last 10 years, and retired 2 years ago. Now that we're living on a fixed income we need to look at some cost savings. Our Directv bill of $130 per month became a prime target. I knew from watching over the air TV in our RV that there were no issues with signal quality in our area, so I purchased and setup an attic antenna and ordered a Tivo Roamio OTA DVR online for delivery at my local Best Buy. It was there a few days later as promised. The setup was easy enough. The Tivo had to download and install an update which took about 45 minutes, but it all went smoothly and I now have nearly free TV! My decision to axe Directv was not simply for the cost savings. There have been a lot of well documented problems with the Genie HR-34/700 which I have put up with for the last 2 years. One of them had to do with slow response and freeze ups with channel guides, recorded program listings and the fast forward functions. I was a bit concerned that the Tivo might have similar problems, but not at all. The fast forward function works better that the Genie's ever did even before the Genie's problems started. It is very responsive and stops the fast forward the instant you hit the play button. I have found the Tivo screen menus to be easy to navigate for finding and selecting programs to record. The interface for Netflix and Hulu+ works well and is on par with the Roku I have been using. It is very handy to be able to access OTA TV, Neflix and Hulu+ with the same system and 1 HDMI port on my TV, something I couldn't do with Directv. The only con with the Tivo Roamio OTA is the service fee. I realize that the hardware cost of the Tivo has to be subsidized, as you can't even by a hard drive for the $50 cost of the Roamio OTA. At $15 per month, it's a lot cheaper than Directv, but it justs rubs you the wrong way to pay $15/month to watch "free" TV! OK, you don't need a DVR to watch free TV, but you know what I mean! Since it's a new product, I don't know how well it will hold up over time, but my experience so far, I highly recommend this product. I haven't used all of the ports and functions, so far I love it!

This tivo is great! Best thing about it......no more switching inputs when I want to watch TV, or when I just want to stream( netflix, hulu, vudu, youtube) Ties everything together. If I want to watch anything all I do is search and I get a list telling me where I can watch it and when. Everything runs pretty smooth. Worth every penny of subscribing to tivo.

I was paying $130 a month for cable just to have a DVR to record my shows and I was very happy to find this Tivo DVR for $50. I canceled my cable and this thing just simply works GREAT! I paid $20 more for a 4-year BB Geek Squad warranty, so if this thing ever breaks in that time frame, I just take my unit back to a BB store and I will get the NEWEST MODEL at no charge! Well worth the $14.99 a month for Tivo service and the Roamio OTA is so easy to use!

TIVO Roamio OTA! Long wait has been worth it!

After almost a month of waiting for TIVO's latest product, my search narrowed to a store some 10 miles away. $50 for a DVR....would you believe it? I got it hooked up right away (very easy instructions)...called in and set up my $15 monthly subscription. That breaks down to 50 cents a day! I have recorded several programs with the easy to navigate menu....and the play-back is crystal-clear. I have a 30 foot mast for my antenna. To be able to record several shows at once means I can keep track of all my favorite series. I cannot express how pleased I am, the the wait was worth it!

Everything you want in a TiVo - and less. Looking to cut the cord and ditch the cable company? Look no further! All the greatness of TiVo without the huge cable costs. For $50, this is a steal. Yes, I know the $14/month for TiVo service still hacks some people off, but when you look at everything you get for that money - program listings, searches between your OtA channels, plus Netflix, Hulu, and now Amazon, and all the other data they make available to you, it's completely worth it. And in case you are wondering, the OtA box does support TiVo stream device, as well as TiVo Mini, multi room, etc - everything you get out of the standard Roamio. What are you waiting for? Get yourself a great antenna, and snag a TiVo OTA!!

We decided to cut the cord from directv because they constantly reward new customers while passing on the increasing cost to the loyal customers. The Roamio OTA DVR is excellent, it picks up more channels on it then my other 2 HDTVs. Setting it to record is easy with the guide and the remote is very user friendly. The monthly fee is a bummer but a lot cheaper then DTV. Only regret is not canceling directv earlier.

We have had our TiVo Roamio OTA for a few months now and the more I know the more I love this system. We are antenna only with a home wify and this system gives us a guide for all of our local stations and quick access to our netflick account. We record over the air shows to watch at our leisure. Yes there is a learning curve to using this system and user help arrives best through e-mail but the capabilities are great! At first I was put off by the monthly fee but the channel guide and capabilities it provides are on par with cable or satellite systems. Now I would not live with out it!

    Love TIVO

This is is great receiver for antenna users. The video is excellent. It picks up many more channels than I could get before with HD quality. It has all the benefits of TIVO and even has a channel guide to look up upcoming shows. There are a couple of cons though. It only picks up digital stations. It will not receive analog signals at all. And it has no audio output jacks, so if you're like me and use your stereo receiver for surround sound audio you're sol. It can only play over the TV speakers. That said, it is still a very good device. I also got Netflicks which is a huge plus. Just keep in mind that you will pay TIVO $15 per month to make it work, and Netflicks has service for $7.99 a month but you will need to pay $1 more for HD.
