This is a very "different" type of game. Not quite what I thought, but is alright to play.

I just recently finished playing Tokyo Mirage Sessions and I have to say it was incredible and fun. Only a few times did I ever get frustrated and it was due to only something as simple as being underleveled for a boss battle. Leveling up and gaining skills in the game is fairly easy, however, especially if you've got the DLC content for the game (that comes with the special edition, or can be purchased in the Nintendo E-Shop). The game play is really quite fun and amusing. Battles are turn based and really easy to get the hang of. It's familiar but different when in comparison to the traits they share with SMT and FE gameplay. I personally enjoyed both the story and characters. Despite a few silly snags here and there that make you laugh at how ridiculous certain moments seem, I felt like for a crossover game with an idol twist it was well written. You've got all the classic and cliché types for every character in the game, and they use these tropes to the fullest extent in a great way, tbh. I feel like the game was worth every hour I poured into it, and it left me smiling in the end with its final goodbye.

I really enjoy the game because it feels a lot like persona which are some of my favorite games. It has really good battles and really good music. Maybe the story could of been better but it's still a good game for me.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE is a fairly average JRPG from developer Atlus, and published by Nintendo. Gameplay is turn based (my favorite) and is easily the best part of the game. You control a party of up to three people and gameplay revolves heavily around taking advantage of an enemies weaknesses to create chain attacks (called sessions). During your turn, you can swap out a character for a backup character without losing your turn. This is very similar to how Final Fantasy X worked. Overall I find the gameplay to be quite enjoyable and is by far the best aspect of the game. The story and character development is pretty meh. The main theme of the game is the idol culture of Japan which won't connect well with many outside Japan. The content of the story segments just seems very basic, and fairly predictable. Ultimately it's better than what you see from the ultra niche JRPGs (think NISA titles) but decidedly worse than something like Trails in the Sky. For those looking at this game because it was first billed as "SMT x FE" should be warned that the final result has very little to do with either properties. The only similarity to SMT I see is the spell/skill names and affinities (for example Zio is lightning, Bufu is ice, etc). There are some similarities to the mechanic systems of FE like the weapon triangle, random stat gains, and character class names (Lord, Pegasus Knight, etc). The Mirages also share names with some FE characters (eg: Chrom). Some notes on the localization. The audio in the game is 100% Japanese, and there are several areas where there are no English subtitles (for example in combat). The majority of the story content does have English subtitles and of course all the menu interfaces are in English. Due to being published by Nintendo of America instead of Atlus, the game does suffer from some significant censorship beyond what is normal in JRPG localizations (usually only ages are altered). Overall I'd say it's worth picking up if you're a turn-based RPG fan and really enjoy that style of combat. If you play RPGs mostly for story I would be more hesitant, maybe watch some let's play videos and watch how it starts out to see if it's interesting for you.

Really enjoying the game though not for everyone. Most anime fans would enjoy and all voice acting is in Japanese bit I knew that and like it. Has Fire Emblem characters with Shin Megan Tensai/Persona elements, all of which I like. Really enjoy this game, battles are fun too

I never waste time jumping on a new Atlus product. Everything from the packaging to the content of the game is satisfying. The game is color and dark twisted into the familiar Shin Megami Tensei mechanics, and it inspires awe.
