    Game of the Year Material

First off, this is my first review I have written on Best Buy.com. I have been gaming since the Atari days, yes I am old. I grew up playing adventure games (first being Pitfall) and I still remember the original Tomb Raider. Let me say, this is one of the finest games that I have played on this generation's consoles. From the very start of the game, I was blown away by the graphics and the way Lara moved gameplay wise. The controls are spot on and the graphics are some of the best I have ever seen. I have been playing for hours now and half of the time has been spent just spinning the camera and viewing the graphics. The developers have truly made a beautiful game. From lush forests to underground tombs flooded with crashed freightliners and WW2 era planes hanging from the cavern ceilings, it is all very impressive to look at. The gameplay has matched the graphics as well. It is easy to move Lara around, jump to the direction you wish her to go (which is important in any platformer# and the AI of the enemy/animals are amazing. The multiplayer is a bit convuluted and clunky, but I did not buy it for the multiplayer so it really doesn't affect my review of the game. If you loved the Uncharted series #which to me took it's roots, Uncharted 1, from Tomb Raider) then you will love this game. Tomb Raider has officially returned and it is the best yet!

Old TR fan reviewing new TR game

I felt the need to purchase this game when I first heard about it having been a Lara fan since she first appeared on my Sega Saturn in 1996. Gone are the enormous conical breasts but what remains is still a fun and what can be quite challenging game play that you would expect from a Tomb Raider game. Action/adventure; climbs, jumps and falls (which Lara does badly - someone needs to teach the girl to fall better!); some covert shooting and some fights scenes where she is completely surrounded by guerrilla militia; puzzles to work out to continue the plot but always moving and always something happening. I can certainly see how this story is a good prelude to the original Tomb Raider story but I also feel that this is just the first in a new series to come. I noticed that if a person is not very good at aiming & shooting (in easy mode - not sure about others) Lara will automatically aim her gun at whomever is the closest threat to her with the first press of the Aim button on the controller. For each additional "auto-aim", you need to let go of the button and press it again. This really helps in battles where she is surrounded by fighters and time to aim is precious. I have not played the online multiplayer mode so I cannot comment on that part of the game itself.

The Tomb Raider franchise is reborn

I had never played a Tomb Raider game before but being in the gaming community, it's impossible not to notice Lara Croft. Thus, when I heard there would be a reboot, I was a bit skeptical about a new re-design when the old one was so iconic. But from the onset of the game, I saw the effort and detail that went into this game and that increased as I progressed further. This game humanizes Lara Croft as a heroine for the next generation. I loved the platforming and exploring. As you progressed, you gain more abilities to use in the platforming, never letting things get old. The cinematic presentation overall really engrosses you into the environment and desperate situations. The combat was good enough with an emphasis on stealth. My only complaints are that the boss fights are a little dissappointing and some side characters aren't given much details. But this was a great experience not to be missed.

I'm a huge fan of the 3rd person action adventure genre. I've played all of the Tomb Raider and Uncharted games, and liked how this adventure turned out as well. Was it better than Uncharted? No, but it came pretty darn close! The story is a little more simplified, trying to be a more visceral survival experience. While Lara's character and history was broadened in this latest outing, it was too bad they couldn't find a way to tie in more things (events, character relationships, character likes/dislikes) from previous TR games into this prequel. There's so much lore that the developers could have used to hint at why Lara is the way she is, I kind of see that as a big missed opportunity for this game from a story telling point of view. On a different note, I really liked the projectile combat in this game. The auto-cover system works really well, switching between weapons and their mods is quick & easy, and the entire upgrade RPG element is a nice touch that I hope they use in the next game. The only gripe I had about the combat system was the hand-to-hand combat system. I found it to be a little too simplistic, as attacks/finishing moves often just came down to one button (triangle) presses even after all the upgrades were applied to that aspect of combat. Lastly, the graphics were spectacular and on-par with all of the greatest blockbuster games that have ever come out, but the sound (at least for me) was by far the most amazing aspect to this game! Maybe because I played this game on a pair of Bose speakers, but the sound effects of the environment, character dialogue, gun/grenade blasts were outstanding. The composer of the music in this game should also get an award of some kind for best soundtrack in a video game it was great all the way through the closing credits. Overall, this game was an incredibly satisfying experience, it may not be the longest game in the world, but it never left me feeling like it was too short either, it was just right, with plenty of big-budget production value moments to boot! 4/5 stars :)

If it wasn't for Last of Us, Tomb Raider would easily be my favorite game of the year for PS3. The story in the game was great and the gameplay was a lot of fun. The game is easily one of the most underrated games of the year. My one gripe with the game was the button mashing sequences where you had to press the right buttons at a particular time. I felt that it was sometimes non-intuitive if they wanted you to press and hold a button or just repeatedly press it.

Im making this clear, I have only played for 3 hours. Now within the first 3 hours I'm able to say I LOVE THIS GAME. I love how mulit-layered this game is. There's so much to the gameplay. You really find yourself feeling completely involved in the game the atmosphere makes all the difference. Lara for once feels 3-dimensional and really like a person I could actually meet better yet one that I kind of know so far. In many ways it can easily be compared to Uncharted but 100 times more intense. I love searching the island, hunting, salvaging, and as much as it isnt as action packed as Uncharted, I can say when it does happen the intensity is so much more there and appreciate it more. This game WILL BE GAME OF THE YEAR because it carries every element that a gamer wants.

As a fan of most of the Tomb Raider games since the first one back in the 90's, this is my favorite already. The detailed graphics, surround sound, easy to learn gameplay, intense story and of course Sexy Lara, after only playing for a few hours on PS3, is so far.....so AWESOME!!! I highly recommend this game to ALL.

A great reboot to the Tomb Raider series with gameplay very similar to that of the Playstation series, Uncharted. You'll find yourself running, gunning and platforming as Lara Croft fight off all manner of human and creature. The story is engaging and the pacing is perfect. Recommended for gamers who like the gameplay in the Uncharted series but don't mind a story that is a bit darker.

This is the game all Tomb Raider fans have been longing for!! Unchartered and Naughty Dog set the tone and Tomb Raider followed through. I am close to beating the game and will replay it again in hard core mode. You can't get enough of this game!! Purchase the game and you will not be disappointed I guarantee it!! If you love Unchartered you will love Tomb Raider!!

Easily the best game that has been released so far this year! I have been playing it for only about 3 hours but it has been one of those games that is hard to put down. So far the story line is excellent and the combat/shooting aspect of the game has been great and satisfying. My only gripe is in the multiplayer. Definitely not as a polished as it could have been but the single player alone is worth the price.

I love this game, even if it does borrow a lot from the Uncharted game series. This game has great graphics and story, but if you are looking for the puzzle solving from past tomb raider games, you might be disappointed. Great game that I would recommend.

Game of the Decade! Simply AMAZING!!! "Video games have a lot of well-known characters, but while a lot are well-known, some do not have the legacy that Lara Croft has. She’s so popular that even non gamers know about her thanks to the movies. Unfortunately, the last few Tomb Raider games didn’t do Lara justice. Many series can benefit from a reboot and that’s all it took for Lara to reclaim her spot as the Queen of video games. The reboot of Tomb Raider got a TOTAL makeover and we should rejoice."

I played TR since #1 on PC, I loved all the "Indiana Jones" look like, also Lara of course :) When Square-Enix announced the new one with a younger Lara I was really scared about the final product, I almost finish it and it's very similar to Uncharted, so, I love this game, now I will try to get the Platinum. If you're a fan of Uncharted type games, get it ASAP!

I was a little hesitant to get this game because there wasn't a demo for it and based on some of the video I had seen, it wasn't really blowing me away, but I loved the original games back in the day, and it had gotten some good reviews, so I went ahead and bought it and I'm very glad I did. The developers did a great job of including familiar Lara Croft-isms that take you right back to the original. The overall look and feel of the game reminded me a lot of Uncharted with some of its epic climbing/running/escaping scenes, but it still felt new and fresh. If you liked Uncharted, you will really like this game. I can't wait to see what's next for Tomb Raider.

A thrilling ride from start to end! What a great story and start of a new Journey with Lara Croft. Out is the old skimpy Lara who sold by her looks alone and in is a new Lara that is more human and easy to cheer for as you guide her on journey. Basic formula from uncharted and gears of war when it comes to combat so don't expect to see anything new. Also it has quite a few quick time events so avoid it if that turns you off. Multiplayer is pretty bland and not a reason to purchase this game.

When the series kicked off in the mid-nineties this game truly changed my gaming preference. This addition only builds on the endless adventures that truly is the Tomb Raider experience and it reassures that this series is heading in the right direction.
