This unit and a flat screen TV replaced the heavy "clunker" combo tv I did have and serves the purpose nicely. Have so many family oriented VHS tapes that we still enjoy and this is cheaper than transferring all to digital.

I have had problems with other vcr"s that were bought from other stores (brand names that I never heard of ) so to get a brand name vcr that actually works makes me happy.

Posted .Thank you for the review, Dickie, and sorry to hear that you find the remote difficult to read (if I understand your comment correctly) and that you've had trouble trying to set timed recording on your SD-V296.

I you need more help after reviewing the manual, I recommend visiting that Television message board of the Toshiba Forums community at http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Televisions/bd-p/b_tv_troubleshooting for tips from other Toshiba A/V equipment users.
