I am very impressed with this product. It is one of the cheaper VCR/DVD combo's, but you wouldn't be able to tell when your using it. I had a TV with built in DVD and VCR, and it broke. Now, I can finally watch my favorite VHS movies again! The picture quality is actually the best of any dvd player I've used.

    Description is deceiving

The description says to "Simply connect your DVD/VCR to your cable or satellite box and then to your monitor/TV and you are set to record a tape with the push of one button!" What they don't say is you need to purchase a separate RF modulator to make the connection. As the unit comes out of the box you can play VHS tapes and DVD's but you can't record anything from your tv or cable.

I buy from bestbuy all the time. Maybe im lazy but i like to buy gift cards here because of the products and fair prices. This product is so easy that anyone can hook it up and get started using it in a few minutes. Just plug in the two provided cables and your up and running. I bought this unit as it plays vhs which i still have a huge collection of. It also plays everything else.

Great, easy to setup and use, VCR / DVD combo. Great value for a combo (how else can you get a VCR these days?)

    Bad idea... don't do it

In general, I love Toshiba products. However, I had to return this DVD/VCR unit because it seemed very cheaply made and I had a feeling that it would break within a few months. I was very surprised (not pleasantly) by the lack of quality; usually Toshiba is very good about this. This unit felt and handled like a plastic toy. It made strange noises when opening/closing the DVD door. In addition to these build issues, there is no built in tuner which makes life a little difficult if you are used to pre-digital days when all DVD and VCR units came with tuners. As another reviewer stated 'you get what you pay for'. I took this unit back to BestBuy within a week. I ended up paying less than $75 more for another Toshiba that is made of sturdier stuff and has a built in tuner. I love my new DVD/VCR unit; the differences between the new one and this one is huge.

I purchased this player for my 82 year old mother-in-law who has little faith in Her ability to operate anything with more then one button. The labeled buttons on the remote and player itself have clear and easy to follow instructions and she has been able to finally watch all her saved movies without anyone's help.

I purchased the Toshiba - Progressive Scan DVD Player/VCR Combo with JPEG Playback to replace an ancient unit attached to the only television in my home which will still accommodate a VCR tape. One would think that with recent strides in DVD technology, creating a unit which will play both old fashioned VHS tapes and DVD’s would be a no-brainer. But then, I had not previously had the displeasure of experiencing a Toshiba VCR/DVD combo unit. I decided to hook it up just as my last unit had been set up, using an HDMI between Comcast's DVR unit and the television, and S-video plus RCA audio cables for the VCR/DVD to television part. But in doing so, I was unable to get a picture from the VCR part to display on the TV...ever!! I reconfigured the cables with as many different configurations and alternative cables as I had available in my "cable graveyard" drawer, but nothing worked. After hours of trying, and confirmation from my 23 year old son that Dad hadn't lost his touch, I plan to return an obviously defective unit manufactured by a less than reputable company. Unfortunately, I read the other reviews on this page after my purchase. Had I done so before my purchase, I would have saved a lot of time by running away from the Toshiba brand. I've certainly learned my lesson, i.e., read the reviews and then make a buying decision!!

    Back to old school tapes!

Purchased this for my wife to transfer her old vas tapes to her Mac. The old vhs player she had would no longer work. The display would be far too fuzzy to see anything. This one played every tape she could throw at it like a charm. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a new vcr. Now i'd say this, its feels super cheap which begs you to ask, why does it cost so much?! Still the vcr does what it should do, and it does it well.

I have played around 200 tapes on it and today it failed completely. I suspect the drive belt broke. Previously, it had broken around 12-15 tapes at the end, on rewind, but the tapes are 25-35 years old and pure age may have been the culprit. Noting that the unit is available at all the Jacksonville stores, I will probably go buy another one tomorrow. I still have around 75-100 tapes to read and then I will use it as backup for another unit we use to watch DVDs on.

    worthless! broke AFTER warranty expired!!!

We bought this because we have a lot of DVD's and VHS's, so buying the combo would allow us to watch both while saving space. We loved this combo player until 5 months after having it, the DVD player side just stopped reading discs (and it's not like we were trying to watch burnt DVD's, just the ones we paid about $20 bucks for new at the store), so we were just using the VHS side which worked fine, but then 3 weeks after the DVD stopped working, the VHS side stopped working. I looked up the warranty ASSUMING since I had only had this nearly $100 combo player, the warranty would be for a year, and come to find out it was only 90 days! So it was nice while it worked, but 6 months later I have to go buy something else! NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL!

Stay Away Lousy 90 Day Warranty

I bought this unit in October 2015 based on the number of positive reviews here on BestBuy.com. The item broke in 7 months (Note: It was gently used by an old person). The eject button broke on the DVD side. I called Toshiba tech support and was told the product only carries a 90 day warranty. Maybe I was unlucky and got a bad unit but I'm disappointed Toshiba won't make this right. I'm posting this so others are aware of what they are getting into.
