Beautifull recorder ,no errors ,good quality, easy to use, i did record 3 hours movie on 1 dvd ,isn't that incredible! and the quality is perfect ,it can record up to 8 hours but you have to play it back on this recorder only.for a regular dvd's you have to record up to 2 hours max. so you can play it back on all other DVD recorders or players.....for me this is the best! This DVD recorder is great, its very easy to record from our DVR or TV. We started recording lots of movies from HBO to our DVR and began to run out of space, and this was our solution! We also have been making nice compilation DVDs of our 2year olds favorite shows (6hr discs of all the 30 min kid shows). This works out well for making DVDs for our little mini DVD player for our car. Since the quality is pretty bad the more you shove on a DVD, but on an 8in DVD screen, who cares! The only thing it doesn't do is copy protected DVDs , but that's ok, and fair I guess! I also have easily backed up my camcorder DVCs on here. Just hooked up the camcorder and hit record for an hour... and done! For paying 119.00, you can't go wrong! I love the title feature too, its very easy! I didn't have trouble setting things up like others did either, yes the manual is a little confusing, but I had an easier time figuring it out on my own. If you are looking for a cheap DVD recorder, get this one!

My wife and I use this recorder to record the better movies after 11:00 pm. I have been using SLP record mode (8 hours). I was really suprised at how good the picture was at this level. I am using Memorex +RW disk. I am not disappointed with my purchase. If this product holds up you can not go wrong at this price.

I've had this recorder for 1 week, was easy to set up. We have cable and I've recorded from several Pay Channels with no problems. Owners Manual says you can watch a movie you already have on disk while recording another show to the same disk. I have my vcr connected to the front input and cable to the rear input.

Great dvd recorder for the money

I did a lot of searching for a good dvd recorder for not a lot of money. I had a top of the line sony RDRGX-300 but it died on me. So I decided to go with the toshiba. It took me less than 5 minutes to hook it up. The quick guide reference helped a lot. The machine dose not have a tuner like my old sony, but for the money it is still worth it. I immediately started recording to see how good the quality of the picture was on play back. They came out great. I was very pleased with it. But I just wish it had the 1 and 1/2 hour and 3 hour recording speed on it, like my old sony. Still I am impressed with it. When finalizing a dvd it was faster than my old sony. But it takes a little reading if this is your first time owning one to see how to use it. The directions are pretty good and to the point. I am just hoping it will last as long as my old sony.

    Couldn't play old recorded dvd's

seems to work so far, but it can't play any of my recorded dvd's from my aspire digital I purchased a couple of years ago. Looks like the recording standard was changed. I can pull up the title screen but hitting play does nothing but brings me back to the title screen. well at least they are +RW so i can format and reuse but I will be losing a lot of recordings... recording seems to work fine. playback of DVD movies purchased in the store seem to work fine. Haven't tried dual layer yet.

    It works!

Set up was fairly easy and works well with Memorex DVD-R , and Maxell DVD-R media I had on hand. I bought this Toshiba after my Panasonic DMR-15 stopped reading discs after 2 years of being very happy with it. After reading bad reviews on other brands, I decided the Toshiba had the most to offer. Once you get past the vague instructions it actually works very well so far. First, it DOES NOT record "Dual Layer" DVD's as others have noted in their reviews, but I didn't mind that. It plays back everything recorded on other brands flawlessly. . I connected it to my Dish Network box and it works fine. . I don't need a built in tuner anyway. Up conversion on HDMI is only slightly better than with component on my 50" 1080i plasma. Overall, I'm pleased with it for the price. I also took the 2 year service on it. Sound quality through my home theater is excellent! I have only had it a few days and will update again soon when I have more to tell you.

    Nice DVD recorder

I have had this unit for about a month now and recorded several TV programs and home videotapes without any problems. Picture quality is excellent! Directions make it easy to chapter, title, and finalize DVD's, to play on other DVD players. Keep in mind, however, that this does NOT have a tuner, so you cannot record one program and watch another at the same time. If your going to be away from home, remember to set the timer, leave your cable or satellite box ON and turn the TV off before you leave. It will record your desired program. Overall, I am very satisfied with this unit.

SO I JUST POPPED THE DVD BACK IN AND WENT THROUGHT THE MENU TO FINALIZE IT THIS ONLY TOOK NO LIE 2 MINUTES. I WAS HAPPY I DIDNT HAVE TO RERECORD ANYTHING. THIS REALLY WORKS. I NEVER TRIED TO PLAY A REGULAR DVD IN IT SO I CANT SPEAK ON THAT.

I bought this DVD recorder because my old 8mm tapes have been collecting dust and I didn't want to lose them to deterioration. I was skeptical at the $119 price but I decided to give it a try. The ease of use and video quality are what will keep me a Toshiba fan for life. The disks burn and finalize very quickly and although I have not tried to record live TV yet, I'm am not worrying about it. If you are looking to make some nice menus and chapters, I would recommend that you first burn using this unit and then edit in your computer. Bottom line, GREAT PRODUCT and GREAT PRICE.

    Good basic recorder

I bought this DVD recorder to convert camcorder video (from 8mm tapes) to DVD, partly as a backup, but also to share the DVD's with family. I simply put in a disk, plug in my camcorder, and start recording. It's very simple. No problems at all. I use single layer DVD+R disks which exactly match a 2 hour 8mm tape when using "standard play" recording mode. I bought this unit because it was the cheapest I found, probably because it does not have a tuner.

This is my second Toshiba recorder. First one stopped erasing the discs after a couple of years so I had to buy a new one. The problem with the newer model is that you cannot watch one channel while you record another. I wish I would have known this before. I would not have purchased it. I am still thinking of taking it back and just paying more for a different recorder with a built in tuner I guess. Just recorded a program and it did record. Picture quality was good. Lets see how it recordsay daily soaps and my weekly programs.

Initial set up instructions started out with "First." the next instruction started out with "Before." I was already lost, but it seemed to come out ok in the long run. I haven't tried recording anything, so I have no idea whether I need another cable connection, or if the one I have for playback will work, or ???? There were many diagrams, but none of them seemed to fit my simple setup. I'll muddle through

Our old(er) Samsung DVD recorder bit the dust and we needed a new (cheap) one ASAP, as our DVR was pretty close to full.. Brought this little wonder home today and it's darn near perfect. Setup was a snap, and it's so far worked flawlessly. As it has no tuner it does need to be connected to a device that has one, but our DVR through DirecTV has one, so no problems. One previous reviewer gave the unit poor marks due to the lack of a tuner, but my experience today was that it was noted on the website, the info card on the shelf, AND it's printed on the box of the unit - I don't think it deserved that one-star rating. One minor gripe - after recording titles on a DVD, the interface for naming those titles is very clunky - a lot like texting from a phone with no keyboard and no intuitive word completion. A very minor gripe, and for a unit at this price, it's easily overlooked.

I am very pleased with the recorder even though I ordered it because this site listed that it would play DivX which it does not. Neither will it record on dual or double layer discs as advertised. However, it is one of only a few that will PLAY double layer discs. Still an excellent value with very good quality.

Not bad... but inaccurate ad on BestBuy.com

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The website ad clearly states that this product is compatible with DL discs, but there is no mention of DL in the instruction manual, and upon attempting to insert a DL disc, you get a message stating it's an incompatible disc. Other than that, this seems to be a great product. You can adjust the record settings to record up to 240 minutes (4 hours) on a standard DVD+R or -R disc.
