Works great for VHS to DVD transfer. Local companies get $45 per two hour transfer. We have 81 full VHS tapes of family so this was the logical choice. Two problems...#1. Toshiba customer support is not familiar with the product. Four customer support personnel said the finalize process has to be completed on a computer ....Wrong....The machine does it all. Best Buy Geek Squad & YouTube are better choices. #2. The manual "over simplifies" the process in four different locations covering nine pages.

I would recommend this product to everyone that needs to convert vcr tapes to dvd disks . It's a one button record and very easy set up . So happy I didn't put this off any longer . We did start losing some of our old tapes information but was able to still enjoy 99% of what was still on the tapes . This unit upscale what is left on your old tapes . Thanks Best Buy for having this Toshiba product in your store !

I'm somewhat happy with this machine, the directions are very confusing. The way the Geek Squad person set it up, I need to have the Toshiba on in order foe the TV to work. I wish the machine was less confusing. I haven't tried to play a DVD yet, I hope I won't have any problems. Haven't yet tried to copy a movie on VCR or DVD...

Plays the VHS tapes and the DVDs very well in combo with our HD TV and other components; easy to connect and easy to use. Everything that you need is in the box, no extras to buy. Very happy with this product.

After trying to figure out how to dub a VHS tape to a DVD, I finally went online and got help. The instructions should have a better glossary, as it was difficult to find the right pages to reference.

This does all the jobs its supposed to do, if you're patient and read the directions. The instruction book is better than most-no really weird English (except to do something "thrice") Annoyances like no cable connection-you have to use composite or component input cables, no eject button for vhs, though there is one for dvd. You have to rely on the remote. I have not been able to stop a programmed recording until the time is finished. That said it works OK. I'm not very demanding about quality-it seems to transmit a good picture to me. It dubs accurately with not too much manipulation. Edits about as well as my previous machine. Since this is the only new combo recorder I've been able to find,,I'd recommend it-I haven't anything to compare it with.

Instructions to set up and use are less than clear, but if you can get past that, it is not difficult to use. Can copy to DVD broadcast TV and VHS tapes. The picture quality of burned discs is slightly less than the original medium (which is to be expected), so HD TV quality turns into somewhere around original VHS quality... Burned DVDs can be viewed using other DVD players as well (like on my computer). My only real complaint is that it does not allow you to burn certain VHS tapes with the error that the tape is copyrighted (this is about 20% of tapes I've tried). I feel like if I purchased a VHS tape I should be able to burn it to DVD for my own personal private use, regardless of copyright settings. Very annoying, and I wouldn't recommend purchasing this unit specifically for that reason.
