The VCR tape speed functions don't seem to stay on the time length you set but what it did record was clear. It would have been nice to have a cable connection to the TV but that is ok.

How wrong I was. I experimented with both a commercially made DVD and VHS. I hooked up the HDMI source, the component video source, and the video (yellow) cable. Switching between the sources, I was surprised to find that the best picture quality was the yellow cable, the next best was the component video, and the worst picture was the HDMI. This is just backwards of how it should be. I called the Samsung tech line. That was a HUGE waste of time. They had no answer for me and offered NO productive help.

If the content source is not in an HD format then use of the HDMI interface will not necessarily provide an improved picture quality over component video, for example. Many HDTVs have a number of SD content presentation options that determine how SD content appears on HD screens. The quality of SD content over HDMI will depend on the TV's ability to upscale the picture (or not), so I recommend checking your TV's documentation to see if there is such a feature.
