I wonder what source you were attempting to record from and if you've double checked the cabling and source selection. Please the User's Guide at support.toshiba.com/support/staticContentDetail?contentId=2842852 for set up and operation details.
If the unit proves to be defective you can initiate the warranty replacement process at acclaim.toshiba.com anytime within its 90-day warranty.

It will not record on dvd's that have more than 120 minutes of storage.You have to set the wrighting speed .I wish I had bought one on HSN I would be able to send it back!!!

This is for my mother and she has a difficult time with setting it to record and the making sure the tv us on the correct input.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This model in fact can only record from VHS format to DVD or vice versa (that is convert your homemade VHS tape to a DVD or the reverse). It has no internal turner which means it cannot decode a program from your TV/cable box. Before I bought this player/recorder, I discussed the connection possibilities with a Geek Squad tech and a rep from my cable provider, and was assured I could connect cable box to TV to recorder/player and be able to record a program from the TV, but they were wrong and it isn't possible (which a second Geek Squad tech blythly confirmed when I returned it). Instead I bought a DVD/VHS player and in future will have to rely solely on using the DVR to record programs.
