I thought I would use this product to transfer tapes to dvd's. On rewind, it broke a vhs tape and then it simply quit working after transferring about 12 tapes to a dvd. I bought another one of these from another store because there are few brands that stilll make video to dvd transfer machines. The salesperson said they are not made nearly as well as they used to be.

Instruction manual wrong on how to copy from VCR to DVD. After two trips to Reno Best Buy they were of no help. One Best Buy rep sold CDs to my wife telling her to try to use those to record video to see if that worked instead of DVD-R. Finally figured out how to make VCR/DVD copy by not following directions

Thank you for the review, ComputerGirl, and sorry to hear that you're having trouble connecting your new TV to your DVR620.

I wonder if the DVR620 was previously working fine with another TV and, if so, what might be different about the new TV.

Beginning on page 19 of the User's Guide at support.toshiba.com/support/staticContentDetail?contentId=2842852 you can find detailed instructions for using various types of TV connections, including HDMI which is the most commonly supported audio/video interface on new TVs.

Thanks again for the feedback and for choosing Toshiba. Toshiba

I DON'T KNOW WHO THOUGHT THAT THOSE OF US WHO STILL USE VCRS WOULD WANT ONE WITHOUT A TUNER. MANY PEOPLE STILL RECEIVE OVER THE AIR BROADCASTS AND WANT TO RECORD. THIS VCR WAS USELESS TO ME AND I HAD TO RETURN IT.

I threw away the box after installation, and when I went to use it for the first time, it wouldn't even turn on. Worst $90.00 I ever spent. I still have receipt, but without box I can't even return it. I had to shop elsewhere to get another one that works. Very upsetting.

    So Far So Good

I bought this unit at a Best Buy on the 'Order online, pick up at store'. The first order didn't seem to go through, and although I never received a 'your order is ready' email, the unit was waiting when I got there. I invoked the "Low Price Guarantee", so I saved about $55 off the price. So, for me, this is a good deal. As far as set up goes, I am somewhat tech saavy, so it wasn't too difficult to figure out. Mostly determine what goes in and what goes out (signal-wise). Since I was routing this through my Slingbox, that threw one more device in the mix, but everything worked just fine. My AT&T DVR/Receiver/Tuner was already connected to the Slingbox, so all I had to do was connected the A/V cables to the "out" of my Slingbox and to the "in" of the unit. Then I connected the HDMI cable from the unit to the TV. The HDMI out on the unit is in an obscure place...not located with all the other ports, so that took a minute to find. My sole purpose of this entire endeavor was to record the DVR'd (recorded videos) on my AT&T receiver. While I'm sure there were other ways to accomplish this, for me, this was the best route. I was really worried I might have to run the Slingbox in order to actually record the shows. Not so. As long as it's on, it simply acts as a pass-through. I'm using DVD+R/W, and so far, I've been able to use a DVD multiple times. The quality is good (I'm using a combination of composite cables and straight yellow video cables), but everything seems in working order. The hardest thing for me is figuring out how to edit the titles of the DVDs. Next step.
