Actually for friend who needed vcr and DVD recording. Great for dubbing vcr to dvd. Also very compatible with major DVD+RW disks by different brands.

I bought this recorder and tried to record on a DVD using DVD-R. The screen read, disc error. I called Toshiba and was told to use DVD+RW, even though the instructions clearly said DVD-R would work. Went and bought new DVDs, again, and received the same message. When I looked at my receipt to take it back to Best Buy, it was past the 15 day return period (which is stupid in itself). Frustrated that I might be left with a machine that doesn't work, I called Toshiba one more time and was told the model I bought has had lots of complaints of a defective hardware in the DVD and they would replace the unit since I can't take it back to Best Buy. Won't buy anything from Best Buy again, who knows whether you want to keep something after only 15 days? I'm just glad Toshiba is making it right.

I love Toshiba products and this is one dependable.

Sorry to say, the unit I purchased brand new did not work out of the box and I returned it the next day. Usually Toshiba is a reliable brand, but I ended up going with a Sony model for a DVD/R and VCR combo.

I like that this is a combo dvd/VHS player because I still have a lot of VHS tapes.

Easy to use and worked great. Added feature is you can play old VHS tapes as machines are almost impossible to find not to mention newer DVD's.

The DVD recording had intermittent sound issues. The recordings would be going smoothly but then sometimes the sound volume would reduce itself or cut out completely, Normally I would not be in the room when dubbing onto DVDs, but this weekend I was in the room reading when I noticed this problem. This issue maybe on all of my recorded discs. Unfortunately Toshiba's warranty only covered 90 days. And Best Buys is only 30 or 60 days.

I assumed that this did the same as my old one. It did not say that it didn't have a tuner which allows you to record off the TV. So I had to return it.

purchased this awhile back and have to admit it was my fault for not trying it out right away. I have a disabled son now 25 that we would film activities on to cassettes and edit to use as teaching aids as well as old movies, many many tapes. Wanted to get something to transfer the data to DVD for back-up. Now I'm pretty good, well above average with devices but when the last instruction said hit dubbing and after I did I kept getting a red circle with a slash through it. Tried several DVD types. Even Verbatim Gold Archival. Called Best Buy, wonderful tech but they could not figure out what it was. Put me through to Toshiba and they couldn't help either. Noting in manual, nothing from Toshiba......Plays great but recording was a no way and no answer. too much money for a player.

Toshiba makes a bleeping product. This DVD/VCR combo is huge, clunky and generally unappealing. But it was the only combo I could find at Best Buy at time of purchase. And I love Best Buy! It's impossible to assemble it correctly. And that's after I set up my new TV, TV stand and Tivo, so I know I'm not a total dunce. Very disappointed in this product. Thank God for Tivo, because I can't figure this dang thing out.

Opened box, looked at hook up instructions, I don't have an external signal box so there is no way to connect machine to television!!! Machine does not have any direct inputs for cable coax, find that I have to download users manual. Would rather pay for a manual to be in the box. Overall, Very Disappointed.

Unit failed upon arrival. DVD tray would not open, it just clicked. Service number in India told me to "turn it off and hold a button for one minute then turn it back on " as if that was going to fix anything. They then wanted me to ship it to them at my expense for repair. Returned to store immediately.

When I called Toshiba support I was told they no longer offered support for this product.! That stinks. Do you think I'll buy Toshiba again? Bye, bye Toshiba You guys should be careful offering Toshiba products. I'm not a happy camper.

I never had a chance to actually use this product. Upon hooking it up to my cable box the picture quality was terrible. Making changes in the "general settings" menu didn't make a difference so I installed the product with a HDMI cable and also with Component Cables with the same results. Poor picture quality and for some reason the picture no matter how the "picture ratio" was set the picture was closer and wider than original making people look fatter. My Phillips was much better before it broke.

Bought for my mom for mother's day. She can use and and loves it.

wasted my time today going back to store for tuner that this recorder needed only to find out that they don't carry them. the employee blamed it on toshiba. even with a tuner, you can't record a program while watching another one which doesnt make sense! first time this store disappointed me as i've always found what i was looking for. don't think i'll be going back any time soon.

cant record. called toshiba. said go online. went online and asked for help and got no response. I bought 3 32 " toshiba tv's with 3 toshiba dvr recorders. after spending $1,500 I still cant record. This absolutely is ridiculous. Where is my help. I will never buy from Toshiba or Best Buy again. what a mistake.

This product will allow me to play DVD's or VCR"s.

I recorded my first DVD to disc but I can't play the disc on anything but the original machine.

I had this player for 6 month and only used it twice and it was to record a movie off of TV. The first time I did it was perfect. The second time I used it the picture and sound skip every 30 second. What kind of junk breaks the second time you use it. I will never buy Toshiba product again. I wasted $167 on this junk and will now toss It out rather then deal with the company. Best Buy needs to stop selling junk like this or I will take my business some were else
