My comments may be of no aid as a Toshiba representative has told me that the DVD-R/VCR unit is being discontinued. I was able to purchase a unit through my local Best Buy store. That unit proved to be defective: periodically, the recording it made would break up into pixels.. Unfortunately for me, I did not discover the flaw within 15 days of purchasing the unit. As a consequence, I could no longer exchange it at the Best Buy store for a replacement. The unit was under warranty, however, and the Best Buy store said that it would swap the bad unit for a new one if Toshiba gave its OK. I phoned Toshiba's customer service and was told that I'd have to ship the defective unit to the company for its appraisal of the flaw. I did so, and the company afterwards sent an electronic credit to allow me to purchase a new unit from its online store. Toshiba, however, was not offering the recorder online. When I again phoned customer service to point out this snag, the representative said that my credit would be converted to a refund issued as a VISA debit card. I asked whether Toshiba could instead just authorize my local Best Buy store, which had the unit is stock, to give me a replacement. The answer was "no," The only way to get the refund was through the VISA card. When the card arrived, it was valued solely at the purchase price for the unit. No credit was given for the cost of sending back the defective unit or for the sales tax. When I phoned customer service for a explanation, I was told that it was company policy not to pay shipping costs for defective units returned under warranty and that Toshiba did not collect the sales tax, so would not refund it. I was left paying over $35 for the privilege of buying a product that did not work. After this experience with Toshiba's shabby customer "service," I am never again going to buy any Toshiba product.

Our old VCR died. Wanted a new recorder to replace it and also play VCR tapes existing. It has a DVD recorder and VCR section. The first unwelcome surprise it had no COAX cable connection. Then I found out it did not have a tuner. Then I discovered special additional devices were required to make it function on a very basic level. Had I known any one of these issues I would not have made the purchase. This unit is close to worthless compared to an original VCR.. AVOID this thing!

Only used it once so far and it was great. Now I can transfer all of my VHS home videos from the last 20 years to DVD

I purchased this product for my son. He told me it does everything he needed it to do. He can now record himself playing his video games and post them on YouTube with great quality.

Purchased this to convert all of our home movies from VHS to DVD. Very easy to use. Also have hooked up another DVD player and recorded a non-copyright DVD to a blank DVD.

It's a little difficult to understand the directions but it's a good product and works well

As a millennial who grew up with a VCR, I needed one when I moved out to watch my old VHS tapes. Three years later, both the VCR and DVD functions work great, as well as the conversion and record features.

Once we got it all set up with our new TV it has worked great. No problems and easy to use

I like the way it is made and so easy for me to hook up. I really wish they would make them with built in tuners again.

This is the second Toshiba DVD recorder that I have purchased. I ran the first on into the ground, so had to get another one. Until someone comes out with a model that records in HDMI mode (don't expect anything in the near future), this one is the only way to go.

So far is working without any troubles, hopefully.

this unit is a lot better for transferring vcr tapes to dvd or the reverse. only problem is with copyrighted programing which will not record to dvd. you will get an error message if you try. otherwise it is a great unit.

Put HDMI cable on this Toshiba VCR record my favorite HD TV shows to DVD and watch later in VCR HD great unit very design modern go very sharp to my Toshiba HD TV should get this Toshiba VCR if want recording HD TV.

Bought this to record our church services onto DVD, It does a very good job for the price. DVD recorders are getting hard to find, so I am glad to have this one!

Easy to use . Would recommend to transfer vcr to cd and for in line recording.

I absolutely love this! It transformed all of my VHS cassettes to DVDs and plays DVD/VHS movies! Also comes with a remote! We hooked it up to our projector and it works awesome for outdoor movie night!

Pretty easy to use and allows for many formats. I would recommend this product.

DVD works OK, the VCR is difficult to program and even harder to rewind and play. The manual is good except for when it references the VCR portion of the machine,

This DVR was easy to set up and to learn to record with. Now I can watch my shows when I have to be away. I only have antennae TV, so this was what I needed.
