I've only had it a little over a month, and I already have to send it to get repaired. I'm sure it is a great laptop, however my turned out to be a lemon.

i was looking for a laptop for general web use, light gaming, and some development. The laptop itself looks really nice and feels solid, its kind of a work of art. The speakers are the best I've had on a laptop. I ran a Starcraft 2 game with 8 players 1366x768 on medium/low settings and it was flawless, no drop in framerate at all. At full 1920 x 1080 resolution SC2 slowed a little bit, so I cut the res. The screen is crisp and looks good. The hard drive does not seem slow, my load times are not so bad (I plan to put an SSD in eventually) Cons: I wish I could get the screen just a tad brighter the touch pad sort of floats so when you tap on it, sometimes it makes a clicking noise (pretty trivial) I bought and returned a Dell A10-7300(to slow) and an HP 5th gen I7(to ugly) before I bought this Toshiba. The Toshiba is far superior.

    Slow with videos

I purchased two of these, one for my wife and I, to replace two laptops we've had for 5 years that were giving us issues with web browsing. The laptop looks great, feels great, I love the back lighting feature on the keyboard. The I5, 6GB, and 750GB Hard drive are nice. The screen gives a nice sharp image. I enjoyed the laptops at first. I noticed shortly after though, that anytime I tried watching videos or doing a live Webcam chat via Skype, the video feed was very choppy and paused quite a bit, even freezing the picture, and having to reload the camera. The equipment the laptop has should handled a video with ease, but it doesn't. I confirmed the same problem with my wife's identical laptop. I tried my older model Satellite that has an I3, 500GB Hard Drive and 4GB of RAM, and it ran the video feed flawlessly so I know it isn't the website, or program. A few other issues about this laptop that became annoying very quick was the integration of the buttons on the touch pad. No matter how many times I make sure i'm only clicking the left or right button to select something, the cursor instantly jumped halfway across the page and selected something else. Another issue, was both of the new laptops would constantly disconnect, or have trouble communicating with my wireless router, which i never had a problem with before. Overall, I gave this a 3 star based on a user that may not care if there cursor jumps all over the screen, or might not watch any videos, or play games. This computer definitely has the hardware on paper, but somewhere between that equipment is a disconnect of communication. No way 6GB of RAM should be providing choppy video streams. Anyhow, my solution was to return both of them, and I purchased 8GB of RAM for both my old computers, and they run like brand spanking new with no web browsing issues anymore. I should have done that in first place!! Good luck to anyone in the market, personally, If you can, wait a few months to buy a computer. Windows 10 is coming out at the end of this month, but i'm sure that will have glitches. Once they release a Windows 10.1, then go for it. I have a feeling they are trying to hurry up and push out laptops equipped with Windows 8.1 with sub par components.

Got this swell deal on Toshiba at 399 during their laptop sale and saved couple hundred bucks.Amazing features for the price but highly sensitive touch pad.Thats the only flaw.Looks majestic and is so featherweight that you wouldn't remember you have a laptop in your bag.Backlit soft keyboard,TFT screen are only some of the features.Has both BT and HDMI so you can only imagine what else is left on the laptop wishlist. So proud of my purchase and look forward to many such ones.In fact,I had bought an open box lenovo AMD A-6 with 8 gb ram and 1 TB HDD.Turned it back in as soon as I saw this baby.Glad I did.

I needed a laptop to use for y online classes since my old one had gotten so slow I couldn't write papers without it freezing every five minutes. In addition, I am not very technologically savvy and needed something I would be able to learn to use quickly. I bought this laptop for its price and size. It has worked great for everything I need thus far. I love the size and portability unlike my old bulky laptop. For my online classes it has been fast and I have had no issues. I would definitely recommend this to others.

    Nice little computer, awful trackpad.

My father recently retired from his job, but went into business on his own as a little side thing. He needed a simple laptop so he put me in charge of choosing one. I thought this one would serve all of his needs and I couldnt complain about the price. It comes with all the annoying bloatware you come to expect from a new PC, but after wiping all that out its a very nice little computer. It runs perfectly and its nice and light. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the trackpad is absolutely infuriating. I dont know if its overly sensitive or what, but if you are repeatedly swiping your finger across it to scroll or drag windows, it will register clicks you didnt want; randomly clicking on links, closing windows, etc. For someone like my father who has literally never used a laptop before, it was all the more frustrating (he got himself an external mouse though. All in all I would say its a great computer for the price. Ive had some bad experiences with Toshiba in the past, but I thought I would give them a 2nd chance, and Im glad I did.

I bought this laptop only a few days ago and I already love it. I owned a toshiba that ran perfectly for 6 years, and it only recently stopped working, so changing brand was out of the question. This laptop is really thin and lightweight, it boots really fast and it's very quiet. The sound of the speakers is pretty decent, so far the quality of the screen has got me amazed. The only thing I would have liked is for it to have a cd drive, but it wasn't so important for me when you get all the other specs in one laptop. I also don't like the new touch pad that doesn't include a scroll bar on the side (you need to use 2 fingers to scroll), but I think all laptops are like that now. I paid $549 for it and I think it's worth every dollar.

    Great Laptop for Performance

After selling my Toshiba Satellite A205 a few years ago, I miss its reliability from Toshiba. I, then, went with HP Pavilion DV4 series and after about a few years, the cooling fan died and needed to be replaced. One month later after the repair, it died again. I was so frustrated that I decided to stop buying HP laptops and went back to Toshiba Satellite. I never had a problem with Toshiba Satellite and opted to get the E45-B for school and graphic design work. This laptop has the best bang for the buck based on features vs. price. It resembles a Macbook Pro with the weight of an Air. I didn't mind much about not having the CD drives because I barely use it for anything.

I recently decided to buy a laptop and did several days of research at several sites. This is the model I felt would be best although I had a few other models I considered. There were some reviews I read about a shadow across the screen-I do not see one. I also read a review about one person having problems connecting wirelessly. My router is on the 2nd floor of a Victorian wood frame home. I had this computer in the basement and had no problem connecting at all. Learning to use a laptop and transitioning from Windows 7 to 8.1 will take some getting used to but I could not be more pleased at this point !

I got it at GREAT Price for $399.99 and at this price I thought that I could not pass it up! What bothered me was the keyboard. The tactile feedback was good but not great. Something that I could deal with over time, however, I started to noticed that and one of the keys was coming off. So I tried to put it back but no good. I Felt that the The Keyboard quality is not all that great. . I thought about getting a replacement but the whole bad keyboard experience left me thinking that Toshiba needs to work this out. If it happened that one time, it would happen again. PROS: Good weight for a Laptop this size. Excellent Screen Good amount of ports (usb) Backlit Keys CONS: Mediocre Keyboard quality

I replaced a new HP laptop with this one and I am very happy I did. The fifth generation I5 processer is very zippy and the High Def screen is easy to view. The back lit keyboard is great when using the laptop at night with the lights off. I wanted a bigger screen then my Microsoft Surface Pro and smaller then a 15.6'' screen and this 14" is just perfect. I think for the price and the features this laptop is hard to beat!

Fan noise is driving me mad

I have to say this laptop has some great features. The case, screen, and keyboard are great. Three USB 3.0 ports is nice. I like the combined headphone/mic jack. Here's what I don't care for. The way the keyboard lights up looks terrible from an angle with light leaking out around the edges of the keys. The fan spools up down then sputters non-stop all the time. I haven't heard of others having issues so I'm thinking mine's messed up. Overall I found performance to be disappointing. Using it out of the box it was very sluggish in almost every way. A clean install of win 8.1 on an ancient SSD I had laying around has made a dramatic improvement. It's likely both the bloatware and the drive because there's no way it could lag that much just because of the drive. I was getting a message saying the video driver crashed or something similar constantly. Just browsing the web it would just popup and then fix it's self. (haven't seen this since the fresh install) The CPU is no powerhouse but it is a mobile i5 so it could be much worse. 6GB of ram? Seriously what's with all the random 6GB machines. The windows 8 updates never stop!

I purchased the Toshiba E45-B4100 about three weeks ago. I have several laptops, as I prefer them to desktops only one let me down. Then Toshiba replaced it and I have not had another problem from workmanship. I also own Sony and HP. This one so far is best performing Laptop. I own a Toshiba 1st generation I5 (Windows 7) and this one performs better. Touch pad do need more work or we as user not to get to know its limitation’s better. Great compact Laptop travel ready.

I got my first Toshiba laptop more than a decade ago. Since then, I've used several Toshiba laptops and a few HP laptops. Recently needed to find a new laptop to replace my old Toshiba laptop that still works well but has gotten really noisy. After buying and trying the HP ENVY 15.6" Touchsmart laptop for a day, I immediately returned it the next day as it was heavy, slow, and crashed a few times during an hour of usage. I went back to Toshiba again. This Toshiba laptop looks great, thin, light, and works well for my work and personal use. It's great for the price. I've only been using it for a few days but it has already grown on me. It is very nicely made. I still don't like Windows 8 and can never get used to it but that's a separate issue. My main complaint is that the webcam for this laptop is quite awful.

I'm on my second Toshiba E45-4100 in two weeks. First one I really liked the speed and display. Thought it was nice. But mouse pad came loose in upper left hand corner, so I exchanged it. The second laptop seems slow compared to first one. Dragon Assists wants to keep installing. The Dragon Assist setup video doesn't display, just hear the guy speaking. This causes me to think there are issues. I really have no idea what is going on, it just seems slower than it should be for the i5 processor. I'm either going to try one more time or give up. Plan to play around with the one in the store to see how it's speed compares. It's not my wireless as I have older laptops with same or smaller processors that are doing fine. I so want this laptop to work out for me. Disappointed, but remaining hopeful.
