go to control panel>system and security>system and look at the bottom of the window to see that your windows is activated. if not, return immediately. a tech could not fix my lack of activation, and toshiba support is a joke. my two month old computer is now being shipped somewhere to determine whether best buy can exchange it or not. the laptop itself is great. best sound yet. clear screen. really disappointing to be told by a tech that the problem (inactivated windows/updates failing) is probably in the manufacture of this particular model. if you get a good one, the laptop is great. but i can't recommend it in good faith after what i've been through.

The laptop works fine and dandy but I've run into an issue with the screws on the bottom of the computer, they can become loose rather easy and just fall out. Other than that the laptop is amazing, small and light, easy to move around and plenty of hard drive space.

Far exceeded expectations - super-fast and compact. Love the keyboard and full HD screen is amazing. I've loved all the Toshiba laptops I've owned over the years and this one looks like another winner! Even the gold color is understated. Looks silver with a hint of gold - not a bad look at all.

Great laptop, very sleek and efficient. Good speed, plenty of storage, nice speakerphones. I like Toshiba, always on top. And of course, Best Buy has great deals. Got mine on sell for $399. So happy!

Nice- sleek looking laptop! Just purchased- so far so good. It has lotsa memory and is quite fast... I don't like touch screen and/or 'tapping' and the buttons take a bit of time getting used to- but its working out. Backlit screen is a nice touch. All-in-all a great laptop!

For the money this one is hard to beat. Returned an HP and got this couldn't be happier. Great screen and sound. Replaced the HD with a Toshiba SSD also from Best Buy. This is now as fast as any laptop I've used. Highly recommended.

Got this on sale for $399. A great laptop for the price. However, the screen has a yellow tint to it. Will probably return the laptop due to this fact.

As others have stated the mouse pad can really be frustrating. Why is it that EVERY time I take the pointer to the edge of the screen no matter how I try to adjust it the side panels open up and i end up having to double click,that is if the mouse pad accepts the command or by the time I get the pointer to move another edge panel opens! Yes, I got what I thought was a good deal at $399.99 but have found that it lags horribly especially when trying to log on and seems to just hang there for almost 30 seconds sometimes. I bought this to replace my 4 year old HP Pavilon dv6 but this brand new Toshiba can't touch it . If it wasn't for the heat generated by the HP I would not have replaced it and still find myself using it when I just want to hop online quickly. The REALLY frustrating thing is that after I bought it I went on vacation...now I KNOW the one on display was a touchscreen and that is what a big selling point was for me, I now know, this is not supposed to be one, but the display was,and by the time I figured it out and got back 3 weeks had passed and Best Buy would not refund my money only replace with a similar priced device which you know you ain't gonna get squat for $399 and the display was conveniently gone! Did someone catch the mistake and remove it before I got back? I guess I'll never know but that part is on Best Buy not Toshiba. And as far as Windows 8 goes ..I don't think I need to say anything other than at least we are eligible for the free Windows 10 upgrade when it comes out. At least I have something to look forward to.

This purchase was made for my elderly mother as a gift when she moved into her new townhome. She loved it!

HP is an outstanding America Computer band, so I choose it. This laptop is very nice. It can start in 10 seconds, which is amazing.

I bought this computer 3 days ago and wanted to expand the memory to 16 GBs like it said that I could. That was not the case, I ended up going through 3 of Best Buy's computers and about 5 sticks of ram with no avail. I really liked this computer and would have been happy if I had kept it, but if I was going to pay all of the money for the ram I wanted I wanted to make sure it worked. Basically the computer is great if you don't want to modify it but I ended up going with an Asus and I couldn't have been happier.

I bought this laptop 2 months ago because of the i5 processor, thinking it would be adequate for streaming video. So disappointed. It buffers several times during a 40 minute tv show. I've gone back to my old Asus with an i3 chip for streaming video and no buffering. Whatever bloatware Toshiba adds to its laptops makes for a frustrating computing experience.

there is problem wth heat also your specification about prossesoer speed not right!

I started out loving this laptop. After two weeks the screen went black and nothing worked to restore it. Best Buy refused to help since it was 2 days after return policy. I'm very disappointed and my only option is to send the laptop back to Toshiba. So now, I have to buy another laptop while waiting for Toshiba to determine if the warranty will cover the repair.

Very unsatisfied. Computer broke and the company was not helpful at all. Arrogant and rude.
