Great concept except one thing. Not enough Ram. Windows 10 ran slow. I put an SSD in and used a Toshiba factory restore usb drive. I could barley get the OS to install. It took like 3 hours to do windows updates. Just not enough ram!

I am very pleased with this laptop, defiantly a great deal for the price. I love this especially because it is light and compact for traveling and taking to class. The touchscreen and flexibility is very convenient and useful. I use this laptop every day and wish I would have bought it sooner! Only negative about this laptop is that the battery life could be better.

Works well for what I wanted it for

I purchased the Toshiba B1208X 10 days ago. I have an i5 desktop at home and my wife has an i3 14" notebook. We're retired and travel and I wanted something smaller than her Acer notebook. I had intended to save money and buy a Celeron 11.6" laptop, but my wife convinced me to go with a Pentium. The main purpose of this computer is for web browsing, viewing of photos and videos, email and adding data to various spreadsheets. For this purpose it works very well and is fast enough. Photo and video editing is left for the desktop, but this laptop should work fine for basic photo editing. I have had no problems staying connected to my home wi-fi or my Verizon Jetpack wi-fi. My router is on the second floor and I have tried web surfing in the basement on the opposite side of the house and still have a good signal and speed. That's going through 2 outside walls and 2 floors. The keyboard has a good feel and my wife, who was a secretary and excellent typist, likes it. The touch pad and touch screen are responsive. It does come with a lot of bloatware and I removed a lot of the included apps and loaded the programs that I use for documents, photos and web. I also run Norton Security and it does not seem to slow the computer down at all. Unless something fails in the future, I'm very happy with this purchase, which I got when it was $20 off. Something that confuses me about the reviews is why the Win 10 model gets worse reviews than the Win 8.1 model (B1208). They are the same computer, just different operating systems. The B1208 will be the same with the Win 10 update.

    EXACTLY what I wanted.

This laptop fit all my criteria for what I wanted in a laptop. It runs windows 10, and has a touchscreen as an added bonus. It is great at multi-tasking, there little-to-no lag when switching between apps. Start-up can take a minute after you've received Windows updates, but I think that is to be expected. Like others have mentioned, I definitely deleted the pre-installed Toshiba apps to free up memory. I deducted a star because speakers leave a bit to be desired (weak and muffled output), but if youre used to using Bluetooth wireless speakers, it wont be a big deal. I highly recommend and am pleased with my purchase.

WHEN I GOT HOME, I WAS GOING THROUGH THE ACTUAL SPECIFICATION INSIDE THE LAPTOP. AND F0UND THAT THE PROCESSOR IS SLOW. I WENT TO BESTBUY NEXT DAY. THEY SAY THAT ALL THEY CAN DO IT EXCHANGE WITH NEW ONE. BUT THEY NOT SURE IF OTHER BOX HAS SAME OR DIFFERENT PROCESSOR. OR THEY WILL GIVE ME REFUND.

The 2 previous reviews were done just b/c they had nothing else to do, as many like them do all over. I have had this L15W-B1208X, with Win 10 for 2 days and purchased from BEST BUY! This item came out in July 15' preloaded with Win 10, short form for tablets. Allow time to load everything when you turn it on. There are lapse times in between that you think nothing is happening and just wait for everything to finish loading. I cleaned up the unnecessary apps and downloaded Panda Free Anti Virus and Malewarebytes. Then ran the Disk Clean Up followed with Defrag HD. This little machine will NOT disappoint as runs smooth and pretty fast with Intel's 3540 Pentium processor. The new Microsoft Edge is okay, but there are no Ad Blocks that work with Edge at this time. You can switch to IE, which is another 2 steps, but no big deal. It has Microsoft Office 365 in the Win 10 package for you to install, but did not work. I have to call Microsoft or Toshiba Support. The 365 is good for a year and might just find free Word type to download. I have optimized this Toshiba 11.6 and am REAL HAPPY with speed and performance. Transfer everything from your main laptop to this little Toshiba and you are good to go! If you are looking for something that is extremely portable with basic operating needs and want Windows, this machine is it! . Thank you Best Buy! My Chromebook is the thing of the past.

    Decent windows 10 laptop

This particular laptop is pretty decent and gets the job done. It has 4GB of RAM and 500GB of storage which is good enough. The touch screen is a plus but not really needed unless its in tablet mode. The only downside is the keyboard, which is not too terrible for a budget laptop.

After having other Toshiba products I have been under impressed with the performance and slow speed of this product. It has been greatly hampered with upgrading to windows 10. The upgrade was suggested by the Best Buy employee, however after I consulted out IT/computer guys they said that was a bad idea with only 4Gig of RAM. Guess what, it is not user up-gradable(factory)? So I can't upgrade easily on my own. I do not need a huge performer, however this small laptop has been mostly annoying after the first month. I primarily use for the internet. My battery is constantly dying and It takes for ever to start up. Also, not sure if I like all in ones, the screen glare is a pain in many situations and if I brighten up the screen then the battery life is even worse. Even though I researched I missed a big one... non lighted keyboard, I guess my bad, but very annoying. After a struggling for three months I took it back and asked to exchange and upgrade, however they would not allow. I think I will pass onto another family member and justify purchasing a Mac somewhere else.

Thank you for the feedback, MavenRogue.

Please note that this exact model is now shipping with Windows 10. Most industry analysts agree that Windows 10 requires no more resources than Windows 8, so upgrading to Windows 10 would not be expected to be a problem.

If you haven't already done so, please visit http://win10upgrade.toshiba.com/swupdate/information.aspx?region=TAIS&country=US&lang=en for detailed information about best practices for upgrading this model to Windows 10 to ensure reliable operation and so that your power management and hotkey controls all work as expected.

You have to POUND on the keys to get them to work properly causing constant retyping and sever pain in my hands from all the key pounding.. It also has many errors message when having to restart because it won't connect to my internet that everything else in house is connected too.. 2 laptops, Wii, PS3, PS4, TV and smart phone all connected with no issues.. So frustrating with it being 2 days out of the box.. I do NOT recommend this model at all... Love my other Toshiba but this is totally junk,,

Thank you for the review, Kyler11, and sorry to hear about the keyboard and Wi-Fi issues with your Satellite L15W-B1208X.

Your experience with the keyboard sounds severe enough to itself justify returning to your retailer for replacement, so I don't think there's any point in troubleshooting the Wi-Fi problem. That said, if the keyboard issue has resolved itself then please see the Toshiba Forums community knowledge base article at forums.toshiba.com/t5/Networking-Wi-Fi-Knowledge-Base/What-can-I-do-if-my-Wi-Fi-wireless-isn-t-working-in-Windows-10/ta-p/663603

    Waste of Money

Bought this laptop for my 15 year old son to use in school. We opened the box and powered on the system just to check it out. Everything looked fine and worked fine. I also read through the Quick start guide which said "strongly recommended to create a backup of your computer before using." Unfortunately, I thought I could make the backup the next day. We shut down the system and my son took it to school the very next morning. At class time, when he tried to use the laptop, it would not boot. The error message was "Reboot and select Proper Boot Device" or "Insert Boot Media in selected Boot Device and press a key" . I've googled the error, checked the Toshiba website and haven't found any resolution. Tried calling customer service and was on hold for 15 minutes. The rep finally came on, said he'd dial me back because it was a bad telephone connection. He never called back. Will try calling them again. Sorely disappointed with this purchase. Wished I had spent the extra hundred for a HP or Dell.

Thank you for the review, HIGHLYUPSET, and sorry to hear about the booting problem with your Satellite C55DT-B5153.

Since this is a brand new system, I recommend returning to where it was purchased for replacement. While Toshiba has extensive quality controls at our factories, this unit seems to have some marginal problem making it unreliable which is, of course, unacceptable.

If for any reason you cannot return it to where it was purchased, please contact Toshiba support at 800-457-7777 to make warranty repair arrangements.

    Do not buy this computer!

I bought this computer in the US while on holiday (I live in the UK). Now being back home I'm at a complete loss on what to do with this useless piece of plastic. I have had problems with it since day 1. First problem being the computer would not connect to Wi-Fi, even though every other computer, phone and tablet had absolutely no problem. After reading a a few articles, I wanted to give it a chance, they recommended re-setting the computer, so I did. After a 4 hour re-start and having to re-install everything again, the computer was finally connected to Wi-Fi. I would like to say that was the end of my problems, but it was just the beginning. The computer failed to connect to the internet again and while playing music the speakers started to sound muffled - emitting a static type of noise, so I did another re-start. After this I had to update the computer again and guess what happened? Firstly, the laptop froze while trying, then it couldn't find the updates and then updates wouldn't run. I thought I would try the Toshiba update, nope! Not working either, and don't get me started on the keyboard! I would NEVER recommend this computer to any consumer. Frustrated and angry now I am back home writing on my boyfriends laptop while mine sits on the side doing a very good impression of a waste of money. And because I'm in the UK, I can't even take it back to the store :/. Oh and did I mention the computer is a month old! DO NOT BUY! I wish I had read the reviews first! You have been warned!

Thank you for the review, disppointed86, and sorry to hear about the Wi-Fi problem with your Satellite L15W-B1208X, which seems likely to also be the root of the trouble you're having with updates.

If Windows is displaying a "limited" or "no connectivity" message or indicating "no Internet access" even though you know that your Wi-Fi router is connected to the Internet, there's a fix which is normally installed automatically by Windows Update. Microsoft's support article at support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3114149 explains details about the symptom, cause, and how to implement the solution.

Toshiba also has a Support Bulletin at www.support.toshiba.com/sscontent?contentId=4008443 with detailed instructions on how to manually implement the solution.

    Bad experience

I bought this computer a couple months ago and my first impression was it was a pretty nice computer, it was light, extremely portable, and a touch screen 2-in-1, but that's where the pros end. Firstly, the keyboard sucks. It is hard to press keys and I'd go back a few sentences later and realize I misspelled pretty much every word because the keyboard wasn't sensitive enough to feel me press the keys. Secondly, one day when I accidentally let my computer die, I plugged it in and went to press the power button when I found that the power button was broken, it wouldn't push into anything and my computer was basically dead. Luckily geek squad took it in and fixed it for free, but that was three weeks without my computer and I'm a college student, my computer is important. When I got the computer back three weeks later, it turned out that my computer didn't detect the battery anymore. I had to keep it constantly plugged in otherwise it would die. Being wireless it pretty much the reason for having a laptop. I took it back today and got my money back. Be warned though, if the item is discontinued, they only give store credit...

I thought that it was time to upgrade from my 3 or 4 year old Dell because it seemed to be slowing down. I wanted something compact and a 2 in 1 to take place of my Dell and iPad. I don't know what it is, but this Toshiba is less of a computer than my old one. Programs load very slowly and a number of time I see a "not responding" message. I don't know if it is all of the "STUFF" that is on it or what. There is a number of Toshiba this and Toshiba that in the program menu, but I don't know what is junk and what is necessary. The key board also sticks. I do a lot of Photo Editing and was looking for something new and improved. This is not it. I bought this in June and I don't even know if I can return it or not, but I guess that I should look into it. I find myself going back to my old Dell more and more.
