good all around 2 in one that overheats easily

I bought this 2 in one at the time Windows 10 was released and had 10 installed by Best Buy techs. The keyboard touch is a little quirky requiring extra attention to firm keystrokes on some keys. I primarily use this little machine which is very light and compact as my go to computer for everyday minutia in my kitchen where it sits on a granite counter top. In that location with the granite as a heat sink it works quite well and is used by everyone in the household, but on an airplane tray table, or regular table top or particularly on your lap it will overheat within minutes and shut down without warning. The machine has NO cooling fan of its own. My wife has resorted to putting a cold pack under it when it is not on the granite counter in order to keep it cool enough. Reading some of the other negative reviews I have not found mention of this problem, but some of the symptoms sound like they could also be caused by or aggravated by the overheating problem. This is not a put down of the Toshiba product line as a whole as I have owned several of their laptops which have served my family well.

Thank you for the review, mvpc, and sorry to hear that you're experiencing an overheating problem with your Satellite L15W-B1208X.

This model actually does have a fan. If yours is overheating and the fan never turns on then I recommend contacting Toshiba support at 800-457-7777 to discuss with a support agent and possibly make warranty repair arrangements.

Thanks again for the feedback and sorry for the trouble. Toshiba

    Horrible

Skip it!! I've had a few Toshiba laptops and this one was the worst. Problems from the beginning. After a few days the track pad started acting up, as in only working when it felt like it. After 2 weeks it finally just crashed. Turned it on and a reboot screen came on, from there I tried many recommendations from pc forums and it just wouldn't leave the screen, I would have had to take it in to get repaired. Too much of a hassle for a NEW laptop. Returned it.

Thank you for the review, JC7Lotus, and sorry to hear about the touchpad and crashing problem with your Satellite L15W-B1208X.

I understand that you already returned the product but for future reference, the touchpad can be toggled OFF & ON by using the F5 key. If that key is inadvertently pressed, the touchpad toggle feature can be perceived as a touchpad problem. If you use software that needs it, the "legacy" F5 function can be triggered by pressing and holding down the 'Fn' key while tapping the F5 key.

Also, I just want to point out that Toshiba support is available at 800-457-7777 and resolves most issues over the phone.

Thanks again for the feedback and sorry for the trouble. Toshiba

Thank you for the review, Rajon, and sorry to hear that you're not happy with the performance so far of your Satellite L15W-B1208X.

This model is equipped with Intel Pentium N3540 Processor and 4GB of RAM, which would normally be considered to be fully capable of handling any typical consumer level day-to-day computing needs such as email, social media, general web browsing, and light office productivity (word processing, etc.)

I wonder how long you've had the laptop. If it's new then Windows Update has possibly been busy downloading & installing updates. That's typically the case with brand new systems and, if so, it will tax initial performance until the updating process is completed.

If Windows Update has completed all pending updates and performance still doesn't seem commensurate for the hardware configuration, please contact Toshiba support at 800-457-7777 for troubleshooting help.

Thanks again for the feedback and sorry for the trouble. Toshiba

    Terrible

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Avoid this machine like the plague - buy anything else. Terrible touch pad, practically no wireless capability - finding my home network is easy on every other device in my house except this laptop. Keyboard is too tight and unresponsive - tons of typos from a master typist. There are so many other (likely better) laptops available for less than the $400 I wasted on this one.

Thank you for the review, sholt419, and sorry to hear that you've experienced some connectivity and input issues with your Satellite Radius L15W-B1208X.

I recommend checking Windows' advanced properties for the touchpad to make sure it is configured to your preferences. Here are the steps:

      1. Go Settings > Devices > Mouse & touchpad
      2. Click 'Additional mouse options'
      3. Adjust the options according to your preferences
NOTE: Gesture controls can be found on the Device Settings tab by clicking on 'Settings...' there.

Regarding the keyboard response, if this is a brand new system then slight delays can sometimes be caused by Windows Update, which can tax the overall system significantly until Windows has finished downloading and installing all available updates.

As for the wireless connections, you may want to try reinstalling or updating the networking driver available at support.toshiba.com/support/modelHome?freeText=1200010412 (click the "Drivers & Updates" tab, then select "Wi-Fi")

If any of the issues can't be resolved using the above information, please contact Toshiba support at 800-457-7777 for further help.

Thanks again for the feedback and sorry for the difficulties. Toshiba

    In disbelief

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The Pc would not power on after 4 days of it being open. Called Toshiba and they said to return it to Best Buy because they knew of the manufacturing defect. I purchased it for my 8yr old to play her games of Minecraft and Sims, but the processor was alittle slow for them. The sound quality was a little muffled, and it began to run warm day 1. Running windows was fine though...if it would have powered on. CHECK THE REVIEWS ON GOOGLE...was amazed at how many others had the same issue!

Thank you for the review, JBarnes, and sorry to hear that you encountered some sort of power issue with your Satellite Radius L15W-B1208X.

While the support agent you spoke with was correct to refer you to Best Buy to have a failure of a 4-day old system resolved (we wouldn't want to make you send such a new unit out for warranty repair), there is no such known defect so we apologize for that bit of misinformation.

I hope you'll update this review or post a new one when you get the replacement unit to let us know how you like it once you've had a chance to use it for a few weeks.

Thanks again for the feedback and sorry for the trouble. Toshiba

I am a teacher and I needed something that was small and compact so I could take it back and forth with me. This has been perfect. I like that it is a 2 in 1. The only minor complaint I have is that the keys on the keyboard are hard. You have to hit the keys with a bit of pressure to type. Other than that, I am satisfied.

Disillusioned purchase- Sorry to report this truth

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I'm sorry to report this review. I was genuinely looking forward to writing a gleaming 5 star review, and unfortunately I am here writing this now. These observations are based on my personal experience. True story: I read reviews and educated myself prior to purchase. Bought this laptop for school for simple tasks-mainly Microsoft Office functions and internet. Struggled with it from the get-go. DAY 1: I feel like I was transported back to 1995 with the dial-up Reeeeeeeererrrr..........rrrrrrrrreeeeeee........ noise flashbacks minus the noise (comparable waiting time#. Strike 1. Strike 2: Programs do not load, internet cuts out (Strike 3#, says "limited" and does not connect to wireless, and slow 2 minute start-up time #Strike 4....) are just a few of the several issues with this laptop within 24 hours. I can't even type more on this review because the keyboard is so uncomfortable. Not sure if it is faulty or just junky, so it left me extremely disillusioned. Again, this is my experience and I hope this does not happen to you. Best of luck to you all.

    Screen Cracked, no help

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased this machine less than two months ago and the screen cracked at the hinge when opening. Took it to the local store and they said there is no coverage for a cracked screen even if it wasn't caused by negligence. Very disappointed! No help from Best Buy or Toshiba. Don't purchase this machine!

Everything is good but keyboard sucks. Keys started falling apart after 2 months of purchase. Manufacturer warranty does not cover it the customer rep told me that they cannot do anything but repair with extra cost. Please don't waste your money in this laptop. Thank you for the review, Gorkhe2015, and sorry that keys have come off of the keyboard of your Satellite Radius L15W-B1208X.

The Standard Limited Warranty covers all defects in parts & workmanship, but if a service technician determines that the laptop is physically damaged then repair of that damage may not be covered by the warranty. (Toshiba does offer a SystemGuard warranty extension option to cover accidental damage which would cover such an issue if purchased, and many retailers independently offer similar plans.)

Thanks again for the feedback and sorry for the trouble. Toshiba
