Laptop overall was great. The build. Look and feel was nice. Operating system was fun to use. Until I went to turn it on one day and it just said Toshiba and wouldn't turn on. Brought it to Geek Squad where they couldn't get it into recovery mode to fix it. It was done. Had it exactly 1 month and had to send it out for 3 weeks. Still waiting on its return. They had to replace a part inside my laptop apparently. Not happy. Basically used it 4 times before it was fried... could be just I got the luck of the draw or something and got a bad one, but literally 1 month afterm purchasing it I was standing in best buy yet again to try and fix it... you take your chances...

Thank you for the review, Thebaconatrix. I'm glad to hear that you seem to love the features and performance of this unit and sorry that a Windows boot problem apparently developed with your Satellite P55W-C5200X.

I wonder if you spoke to Toshiba support at 800-457-7777 to try troubleshooting over the phone before sending it out (to Toshiba or Geek Squad?) for repair. At any rate, if it was sent to Toshiba for repair you can visit support.toshiba.com/repair to check repair status.

Please consider updating your review after you get it back from repair and have had a chance to use it for another month or two to let us know how you feel about it with more usage under your belt.

Thanks again for the feedback and sorry for the trouble. Toshiba

This laptop is bogged down with an overabundance of apps that the typical user will not use. It is very slow to start and often required multiple requests to shut down. It is clearly doing a lot of background processing but it is very difficult to change settings in the new version of Windows. It is also extremely difficult to turn off features like Cortana and other apps that send all of your personal information to Microsoft. There are various "sales pitches" on the machine too - icons that take you to software that is not licenced on the machine (Adobe tools) that you can buy for "a special price." Personally - I don't want sales pitches taking up space on my machine that I have to take the time to uninstall to get my disk space back. So - more of a rant against Windows 10 than the Toshiba, but I can't evaluate it any other way.

Thank you for the review, Betsy, and sorry to hear that you don't seem to like Windows 10 much.

I suspect that it will grow on you. It might help to think of Cortana as a search engine on your computer that can help you find things. Using the voice recognition feature is optional but it can be very convenient, especially if you're not the speediest of typists.

If you'd like to uninstall unwanted applications click on the Start button in the lower-left corner and select 'Settings', then 'System', then 'Apps & features.' From there you can select the application(s) that you want to uninstall.

To turn Cortana off, click on the search box to open Cortana, then click the Notebook icon (below the Home icon), then click 'Settings.' This takes you to Cortana settings. From there you can toggle the various Cortana features OFF & ON.

Thanks again for the feedback and for choosing Toshiba, and sorry for the difficulties. Toshiba

I haven't been on it long enough to make a judgment ! I don't like the idea of not having a cd burner on it, because Im still using programs and software that needs to be uploaded by cd . Also I cant burn a cd like on my other laptop.

This is my type computer. Very fast compared to my other one. Very fast internet, as I run 5G, I get too much interference to run 2.4. I got on sale so the price was right.

No complaints. All software apps opened up just fine. Windows 10, MS Edge, and their new layouts will need some getting used to but you should have no problems navigating the features and functions needed to get things done.

My second Toshiba laptop, love the touch screen, the screen resolution is awesome, the speakers are very clear and as loud as you would expect on a laptop, the keyboard is EXCELLENT, there is just the right amount of resistance and is very quiet, the backlit keys are great it is much nicer than the Dell of equal price range I just got rid of. The brushed metal finish is very attractive. The only negative is no disc drive, everybody seems to be getting away from built-in drives to lose the weight.

It has been trouble since almost the beginning. I spent a great deal of time on several days with the Geek Squad to get the software to work correctly. (I'm usually pretty good at figuring it out myself.) The final straw was when the hardware itself began to malfunction after about 3 weeks. I called Toshiba about getting it fixed under warranty. They questioned me several times in different ways to get me to say that I had done something to damage the computer. It was in fact in pristine condition and had been treated with kid gloves. They finally generously decided to look at if I paid about $39 (under warrant!) to look at it. I should have realized that I should not buy it when I entered Best Buy and saw the daughter of a good friend of mine returning the same model because it was defective.

Thank you for the review, HerbBestBuy, and sorry to hear that you may be experiencing some sort of hardware issue with your Satellite P55W-C5200X.

I wonder what symptom you've been encountering. At any rate, there's no charge for warranty repairs but the fee you mentioned is a nominal charge if you'd like for Toshiba to provide a shipping container with packing and prepaid shipping to our repair depot. While responsible for the outgoing shipping, you have the option of using the packaging, packing materials, and carrier of your choice. That said, we do recommend using Toshiba's prepaid shipping method, which includes a Toshiba-designed protective box and includes all handling costs.

Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the trouble. Toshiba
