When it comes to choosing a router, I have several important criteria to consider: Speed and latency, range, easiness to setup and features. This router checks almost all the boxes.
The Archer BE6500 is a Wifi 7 router that offers coverage up to 6500 square feet. Being a Wifi 7 MLO router, this router offers the latest and greatest Wifi standard and that’s why it’s suitable for gaming and 4K video streaming for multiple devices. The router connects to your gigabit internet modem, and it includes a LAN cable to do so.
This router is fairly easy to setup, and it is intuitive enough to do so meaning you don’t really have to refer to the manual especially if you have some experience setting up a wireless router in the past. There’s an app that you can download and guide you smoothly to make the router up and running in just minutes.
Performance-wise, with Wifi 7 and MLO’s tech this router offers great speed and latency, and it is backward compatible with the older Wifi standards so compatibility should not be an issue.
In terms of coverage, the signal is stable and powerful enough to cover the second floor of my house and the front yard, so a medium size home won’t need a mesh system installed.
The app deserves special mention here. It is easy to use and navigate functions such as creating a profile for family members. Say you have a minor that needs to have proper sleep, the app allows you to program bedtime during which time the internet connection will not be made available. However, if you need to set a time limit for a family member, the app requires you to subscribe.
There’s another subscription to consider, that is Total Security package, and it gives you both terminal antivirus and cyber intrusion defenses to protect your home from both cyber intrusions and malwares. You can opt for subscribing to cyber intrusion package only, which brings the cost cheaper. I don’t like multiple subscription models where all the great potential of the router can only be unleashed by a number of different subscriptions.
Aside from the subscriptions matter, this is a solid, easy to setup router that provides great range coverage, stability and speed.
Like:
Easy to setup
Easy to navigate app
Performance
Don’t Like:
Advance feature such as time limit requires subscription
Multiple subscription models

Absolute disaster of a router - disconnected every few hours forcing us to manually reboot. Pathetic customer support - almost non-existent. I would get a different one!!!

Failed in less that 4 months. TP-Link still hasn't sent me a replacement a week later.
Replacements aren't just sent. A product needs to be registered and an RMA needs to be approved. Then the customer needs to select their shipping method for that RMA. That will determine how and when a replacement is sent. If you have chosen your shipping method, please return to the warranty portal and choose that as soon as possible. Also, if you have any questions, you can contact support at 866-225-8139 24 hours a day.

This product was working fine until one morning, I woke up with it not working. It was in the position I left it in, but it was off. So I power-cycled it, and it was running fine. So, I am going to return the item to the store for a refund.
It could have been something as simple as a network outage, which would usually be ISP related. Especially if it was just once it should not be a big concern. However, we would be happy to help discuss this with you and troubleshoot if needed. Please contact our support team at 866-225-8139 or [email protected].

Nice router, but no 6GHZ

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Even though the router is wifi 7 it doesn't support 6ghz. 6ghz isn't required to be a wifi 7 device, but keep this is mind when you purchase that 6ghz will not be included.
One thing I was hoping was to have a new "head" unit for my Deco set up. Even though they're both owned by TP-Link, EasyMesh and Deco are non-compatible. You'll have to incorporate separate mesh system with them and hand off won't go as smoothly as you leave one weak node and approach a stronger node. So, either I'll have to get another Deco for the garage or swap to an EasyMesh set up or even Omada - which I have set up at work and really like. EasyMesh, Omada, and Deco are all separate and can't be combined.
I don't use the route for any routing functions since I use OPNSense. So I can't comment on any advanced functions and kept it in AP mode. Range was fine and I was able to pick up a useable signal roughly 100ft from the unit while outside. I couldn't test the maximum speed since my internet throughput is capped at 700mbps, but the router easily handled it.
What I do like is the inclusion of 2.5gbps ethernet port, 10 would have been better but I'm not up to spending the money on ISP charges for it, lol. I still haven't gotten around to upgrading all my switches to 2.5 or 10 yet, but this may be the reason to get started.
The Archer BE6500 is a very compatible router with excellent speeds and distance. Just keep in mind the lack of 6ghz and to not mix TP link mesh technology.

This router shows a notable speed increase compared to some other routers I’ve tried. I would really like to think that the six antennas really improve the range, but I have some routers with no antennas (visible anyway) and have incredible range. Unfortunately, I don’t have any Wi-Fi 7 devices as of yet to test the True throughput of this router. However, the Wi-Fi 6 devices I have really do seem to fly and Speedtest.net shows some great numbers even without Wi-Fi 7. It’s nice to have the option to either use the app or the web browser interface as I do not like being forced to use an app only on my Internet routers as I feel they don’t offer as much customization and are limited in nature. The overall design of this new router with the hundreds of air holes help keep the router cool which keeps it efficient. This is my first TP Link product, but given the build quality of this router, it will most likely not be my last. If you’re looking for a great gaming router and have a Wi-Fi 7 device, this could be exactly what you’re looking for. I am personally looking forward to testing it with a Wi-Fi 7 device soon.

I never realize what a difference a good router makes! We have been complaining about the slow speeds of our home internet for at least a year now. We got to the point where we were considering changing internet providers for the first time in nearly 15 years. I decided to take a chance on this even though my work usually provides me with an affordable router. Im so glad we did. We quickly found out that much of the speed and lag issues we were having were not due to our internet service alone. Everything was bottle necking at our 6 year old router. It has been a night and day difference in internet service. Whan gaming, we have experianced much quicker download speeds. This has substantially reduced the wait time while doing large updates for games like Call of Duty. We have also experianced much less lag when playing these games. We have also had no more issues with our web browsers or video streaming when multiple devices are all using the wifi at the same time. This was often a big issue in the past, resulting in us stitching the wifi off on our phones and simply using our data plan. This unit was a breeze to set up physically as well as all of the software. What took the longest was re-connecting to the wifi from all devices that use it.

I got the TP-Link Archer BE6500 Wi-Fi 7 Router to replace the ISP provided router that was causing NAT-ing problems for one of my media remote streaming setups. I paired it with my Gigabit fiber Internet and set it up with the same SSID and passphrase so my 35+ Wi-Fi devices don’t have to be reconfigured. The setup went smoothly using the TP-Link Tether app which is very easy to use and has tons of features and useful information about your network, transfer speeds, devices, router memory and CPU utilization and so much more. Once the basic setup steps were done, upgrading the firmware was one of the very first steps that happens and takes about a minute to complete. You can enable scheduled, automatic updates as well.
In the absence of any devices with a Wi-Fi 7 NIC, I ran most Wi-Fi tests using a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra running the latest patch level of Android 14.
Here are my test results:
In the same room as the router:
Wi-Fi 6E - 847 Mbps down / 835 Mbps up
One floor above and about 25 feet over from the router.
Wi-Fi 6E - 446 Mbps down / 426 Mbps up
I also ran multiple speed tests from Ethernet wired Windows 10 and 11 PCs and got ~ 935 Mbps down / 940 Mbps up! Those are some of the best results I’ve seen compared to all other stand-alone routers I’ve tested recently. It is also nice to have the 2.5 Gbps capability on both the WAN ISP port and one of the LAN ports for future upgradability.
This TP-Link Archer BE6500 Wi-Fi 7 router covers all 3 floors of the house quite well thanks to 6 high performance antennas with Beamforming technology. The speed went down to just over 200 Mpbs in the sunroom which is sticking out of the house in the furthest corner away from the router. This router is compatible with the EasyMesh technology of other TP-Link routers and range extenders, so I plan to try that next to get faster WiFI speed farther away from the router and into the back yard.
From a security perspective, it supports WPA 3, IoT and Guest networks if you want to segregate your devices. It also supports VPN clients and HomeShield Advanced Security that includes Home Network real-time scanner and parental controls on top of the built-in firewall. Another great feature is the USB 3.0 port that allows you to share files from an external USB hard drive or thumb drive to other devices on your home network and even over the Internet with the correct network security settings. I hooked up an 8TB external USB 3.0 hard drive and I now have a NAS for all my docs, pics, videos and backups without having to purchase and manage an expensive NAS appliance.
In conclusion, this TP-Link Archer BE6500 Wi-Fi 7 router is well performing, expandable via EasyMesh and affordable with a very easy setup, smartphone App, and a myriad of useful features.

This TP-Link Archer BE6500 router is absolutely incredible! This is one of the latest offerings from TP-Link, and really showcases the speed, bandwidth, and range advancements afforded with Wi-Fi 7 technology – SEVEN!! This dual-band router really delivers incredible speed, low latency, and supreme network efficiency, making it a suitable choice for both home and small office environments. I am a home user and could not be happier with it. I have a family of 6 and with all the cellphones, smart tv’s, computers, gaming counsels, our previous mesh router system seemed to be getting tired. This TP link has no problem throttling through everyone’s everyday tasks and play.
Key Features
1. Latest tech Wi-Fi 7 Technology: This Archer BE6500 utilizes the latest Wi-Fi 7 technology standard, offering claimed speeds up to 9.6 Gbps over the air. This is a massive upgrade from the previous Wi-Fi 6. This results in obviously faster data transfer rates, but also reduced latency, and improved network capacity.
2. Dual-Band: This router conveniently operates on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, ensuring compatibility with all devices, new or old, and provides flexibility for more customized network management.
3. AI-Driven Mesh: TP-Link's AI-driven mesh technology ensures seamless roaming and optimal connectivity throughout your home or office.
4. 160 MHz Channels: The router supports 160 MHz wide channels, doubling the bandwidth and improving the performance of compatible devices.
5. Multi-Link Operation (MLO): MLO technology allows the router to use multiple frequency bands simultaneously, enhancing throughput and reducing congestion.
6. Enhanced OFDMA and MU-MIMO: These technologies improve efficiency by allowing the router to handle multiple devices simultaneously, reducing latency and increasing overall network capacity.

1. Speed: The router delivers impressive speeds, especially on the 5 GHz band, making it ideal for high-bandwidth activities such as 4K streaming, online gaming, and large file transfers/downloads.
2. Coverage: With its high-gain antennas and beamforming technology, the Archer BE6500 provides excellent coverage, minimizing dead zones and ensuring stable connections throughout a large area. It covers our large 2 story house with ease as well as most of the large yard, which is great for streaming music while we’re working out back.
3. Latency: This router’s super low latency is a standout feature, particularly beneficial for gaming and real-time applications.
4. Device Handling: The router can efficiently manage numerous devices simultaneously, thanks to the enhanced OFDMA and MU-MIMO technologies.
Setup and Management
Set up was very easy and straightforward guided by the TP-Link Tether app. The app provides comprehensive management features at your fingertips, allowing me to monitor network status, manage connected devices, and customize settings.
Pros
• Advanced Wi-Fi 7 technology: Future-proofs your network with the latest advancements.
• High speed and low latency: Excellent for high-bandwidth applications and gaming.
• Wide coverage: Effective in large homes or offices.
• User-friendly app: Simplifies setup and network management.
Cons
• Price: As a high-end router, it comes with a higher, new technology price tag.
• Compatibility: Not the routers fault, but realize that the full benefits of Wi-Fi 7 can only be reached with compatible devices.
Conclusion
The TP-Link Archer BE6500 Dual-Band Wi-Fi 7 Router is a top-tier device that offers impressive speed, coverage, and advanced features. It's an excellent choice for users looking to upgrade their network to the latest technology, particularly those with high bandwidth demands and multiple devices. Definitely future-proof capabilities and a worthwhile investment.

This router is pretty cool and replaced my mesh system that I had previously.
What I like about it:
- Simply, fast internet - it's got Wi-Fi 7 (although it's dual band and not triple or quad band) which has a better protocol for aggregated signals. So that basically means the wi-fi uses two bands at the same time. It seems to be better at mitigating walls and lots of noisy devices. I have a house with a lot of IoT in it so a lot of wifi I use tend to suffer. I didn't expect that this would do well, but it did surprisingly well even with over 100 devices in the house with NO MESH.
6 Antennas: so this is one of those routers that looks like a dead spider. It has a lot of antennas, but it helps with the MiMO technology so it's worth it.
Easy to set up: I had an easy time setting this up. I already have TP-Link power line devices set up and this router very easily replaced the Google Wi-Fi router I previously had in my house. After a few taps, it replaced the old router and I didn't need to even change over any of my multitudes of smart bulbs and devices because I used the same WiFi name and password.
The router does use EasyMesh, which is one of THREE different mesh protocols that TP-Link uses. This does NOT work with the deco line of routers, which is pretty sad because they are fairly pretty Wi-Fi nodes.
Raw speed test: I have 500Mbps downstream internet and tested ~380Mbps steady download. That's pretty amazing to me because I used to get less than 1/4 of that speed. Again, I have a LOT of devices so it must be doing something right.
I am fairly pleased with this router and only have a couple things I don't like about it:
- I wish it was at least triband
- I think there could be an informative display on the router itself
- I don't really love the flat rectangle design with the antennas, so thank goodness it goes in my office and not my living room
I can highly recommend this router. It's a good value and works better than expected!

This is an interesting looking unit with a rectangular base and 6 antennas sticking up. It looks interesting and sort of fancy. It is dual band WiFi7. Set up was very easy and customizing the network was fairly simple and straight forward. I have video door bells at front and garage door, and outdoor cameras. Connection was good to all but my garage door area which I know is difficult because of the metal garage door. The router is located in a central area of the house on the lower floor. I will have to do some testing to increase the connections to my garage area. Sometime a slight repositioning may make a big difference. I also have direct plug ins to the LAN ports which are all gigabit. There are four of these. The router preformed well all taken into account. I just finally have some WiFi6 unit (cell phones), but none so far working with WiFi7. I watch a lot of movies so my router must be able to handle that and the other devices operating for my smart house. This TPLink router did very well considering it is not a mesh system. Except for my garage door door bell camera, all was excellent. No lag noticed, and videos loaded quickly.

The setup was easy, app works well, and range is good enough for my 2 bedroom apartment. No complaints, but wary of TP Link's historic lack of security fixes for their routers.
