Serious Security Flaw
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hey, Just picked up a Deco X60 . Here are some serious design flaws and some areas that need improvement for this to be competitive. Speeds are more than adequate for my needs, the issue I have is with features and functions. Worst part is TP-link DELETED my post when I raised this issue on their forum!!!! 1) Surprisingly there is no way to disable remote management. This means the router is always open to the net and in the event there is a breach at TP-link or there is a vulnerability your network is at risk. Every other router I have ever used gives you the OPTION to turn this function off. 2) No full web browser UI. While you can log into the router via browser it basically displays information but you cannot change settings etc. This is obsurd. 3) DHCP reservation, no way to give the device different ip address than its currently on. This is silly, let me enter the ip I want to reserve for this device. I reboot the device and it grabs the ip. 4) No guest network intranet on/off option. Many users like to use the guest network to isolate IoT devices. The setup of many of these devices require that your phone and the device be temporarily connected to the same network during setup. There should be an option to allow this. (Asus does). A better alternative would let me setup a separate and isolated wifi network for my Iot devices. 5) The app itself can use a complete overhaul, its confusing at best.

Posted .Hello X60man,
Firstly, I want to address your concerns regarding a potentially deleted post. There are only a few reasons why a post would be deleted. 1. if it violated our Community Guidelines 2. It was a duplicate post 3. It was posted in the wrong section, i.e. posted as a story instead of a community thread. I do not think based on what you posted here that number 1 applies. I'm not sure if number 2 does though. If number 3 applies typically a message will be sent as well to encourage the post be posted in the correct category. Another thing it could have been is that the thread was posted in the wrong category. For instance if you posted this under Deco, it could have been moved to Product Suggestions. I would not know for sure until we get contacted from you and get your username so we can search and see what happen. You can contact me at ussupportteam@tp-link.com and let me know your community name or email and I will be happy to check.
Regarding your suggestions
1. The system was built around ease of access. This mean remote access via the TP-Link ID is a requirement. This allows the system to be managed and send notifications to the owner and manager accounts. The plus is because the remote access is via cloud access, only the owner account and those who the owner gives manager rights will have access.
2. This is actually how many Mesh Systems are designed not just TP-Link's. Mesh is different from a traditional router, and as such the system is designed around the app. The limited UI was added for mainly advanced troubleshooting and manual firmware updates. There are no plans to expand the features of the UI
3. Under Advance features in the Deco, about half way down is an option for address reservation.
4. The Deco does have a Guest network option and by default it is isolated to not allow access to the local LAN or as you said intranet.
5. I don't have an answer for this one. user friendliness is subjective. If you would like to expand on your concern with the app I would be happy to send it up.
Best Regards

Upgrade
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgraded my 10-year old mesh system for my home with a goal of broadcasting that signal outdoors. The 3-pack Deco System was the foundation I needed to get this completed.

They work but setup can be scary
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The system works well, but the setup was disconcerting. Setup information is sparse and the serial number, etc. on the bottom of each unit is so tiny it is hard to read with a magnifying glass. As directed, I did the initial power on with all the units in the same room. Everything worked fine. I then moved the units to their assigned rooms and powered on again. Both satellite units powered on with a yellow pilot light. It blinked a little and then turned red. There was nothing about a red light in the instructions, so I tried moving the units to where they would have a less obstructed path to the base unit. On power on, the pilot light turned yellow then red, again. I pondered what my next step would be for a couple minutes and the pilot light turned green, like it should. If only TP-Link had mentioned the red pilot light in the instructions! For the price, you'd think they could give better instructions and provide a web site or a setup program for your computer, rather than forcing you to use an app on your smartphone.
