    Not working in two weeks

I would’ve originally given this camera five stars, but after two weeks I couldn’t get it to work again. The camera just kept flashing yellow lights. I tried to reset the camera with the reset button and it didn’t work. I tried to unplug it and plug it back in and that didn’t work. So basically I’m going to take it back to the store and try to get a refund.

    Pretty Darn Good Camera

I'll admit I had doubts about getting an indoor security camera but this one has pretty much changed my mind about the whole market. This one has an excellent picture quality and features a two-way microphone/speaker system which is a nice little bonus. I've been using it for two weeks and I've been rather satisfied with it's performance. Why did I knock off one star if I like this camera so much? First off the whole setup process is a bit convoluted requiring the downloading of the Kasa app then connecting my iPhone to the cameras wi-fi network. Then I could connect it to my wi-fi network and proceed to use the camera. One other thing I'm not too big a fan of is as far as I've been able to discover I can only access the camera from the app. No web access. Some of the other pros for this camera are the above mentioned outstanding picture quality, above average night vision mode, notifications for movement detected, and the build quality. Overall I'd have no problem recommending this to a friend and ordering another one for other rooms in my apartment.

4 Cameras do not work after factory reset

I switched my WiFi router to TP Link Mesh and had to factory reset my 4 TP Link Kasa cameras. To my surprise these cameras don’t work properly any more. Picture is not clear. Motion sensor is bad. My question is why there is no option to change WiFi in the app? Why factory reset is needed and why the factory reset breaks the cameras. BTW, all my Arlo Pro camera are fine with no issues. Kasa cameras are poor quality and do not work with their own routers properly.

Overall a good camera, and even if it doesn’t really stand out above the competition, it does take most of the good bits the other brand offers. I did have some issues however. The first camera was defective and the second would not connect to my wifi and required multiple attempts. Now that I have it running, I’m liking it so far. The picture is almost instant, and the audio is clear enough. The response time is fast, with little lag. The night vision is clear, but is a bit blown out so details are lost. The Kasa app is easy to use and features most of the settings you would want without having to pay for it. The subscription plan is similar to Nest, and can add up with multiple cameras. Pro: -Good image with wide angle and little warping -Fast response time -2 way communication is clear -Detection zone and noise detection -Free plan offers recording up to 2 days or 1 GB worth -Simple app Con: -Night vision lacks contrast -Setting up may be finicky -Zone detection is a bit off -No mute button Setting up would have been an easy process, had it not required me to try multiple times. This on top of getting a defective camera the first time, didn’t give me the most confident about this camera. The process was simple, connect the camera and follow the steps on the app, which should have taken only a few minutes. There could have been many reasons for it not to connect to my wifi so I’ll give it a pass since it worked in the end. Regarding performance, I don’t have any major issues with it so far. The video is as good as any of the other major brands I’ve tried, but this camera is actually a bit faster. As soon as something triggers it, I get a notification right away and so far I haven’t seen any missed actions. The 2 way communication is clear and loud enough without having distortion in the sound. I use it to call out to my cat and it works. It’s not perfect however. The night vision, while good, can be clearer. It lacks contrast so any fine details is lost. The detection zone can be improved a bit. Setting it up was easy, but it’s harder to edit an existing one without having to delete it first and create a new one. It’s also a bit off, with the camera being triggered with activities well outside the zone sometimes. The Kasa app is very easy to use. It’s an app that controls all of TP-Links’ smart devices so you have to navigate a few menus. For instance, the live feed and recorded activities are in different menus. The UI is very simple, maybe even to simple. The live feed screen only has a button for the tap to talk feature and a menu to schedule camera activity. I appreciate the app having all the key features that are missing from other cameras, or ones that require you to subscribe. The omissions are that there’s no mute button or a screen cap for the camera. The subscription plan is reasonable for a single camera, but it can add up with multiple camera. The free plan offers 2 days worth of cloud storage or up to 1 Gb. That’s probably enough if you’re not away for a long time and check it frequently. The Plus plan is $4 per camera and offers 14 days or 14 Gb of storage. The Premium plan is $7 per camera with 30 days or 30 Gb. The pricing is competitive but loses out to Amazon Cloud Cam with their $7 per month for up to three cameras. Bottom line, it’s priced a bit lower than most of the brands, offers the same features and works equally as well, and it has a faster response time. The subscription is not the cheapest and can add up, but the free option may be enough to get by. It’s not without flaws, but so far, it’s one of my top choices for an affordable camera.

    TP-Link Kasa Cam

The TP-Link Casa Cam is a great smart home camera. The camera itself seem to be quality built. The mount in particular is metal and feels sturdy. The base of the mount is also magnetic, I accidentally found out after putting it on a metal surface. It also comes with a wall mount, a fairly long usb power cable and plug. Setup was very quick all I had to do is download the Kasa app and less than 5 minutes I had everything up and running. The Kasa Cam supports up to 1080p resolution, has clear two way audio, night vision and includes up to 2 days of free storage. In the app itself you can adjust sensitivity settings, alert zones, privacy settings etc. I know other manufacturers make you pay for additional settings. Glad you don’t have to with this camera. I know you can opt to pay for additional cloud storage but if something important happens and is captured by the camera you can just download the clip to your phone and that is enough for me. Picture quality is clear as well as the audio. Through the Kasa app you can also add whole suite of smart home devices and control everything with the app and it also works with Alexa. Overall great camera with the features that meet my demand.

First and foremost this camera is relatively easy to set up and use. The wide angle, HD picture and night vision are all great. The connection so far has been very steady to great. Unfortunately the software has very little options to adjust the notifications, so if camera is in a high traffic area, you either turn off notifications or get constant notifications. An issue if you turn off that feature but forget to turn it out when you leave your house or whatever the case be to require notification. The other issues are the wall camera mount does not allow the camera to be rotated once attached to the mounting plate. The camera only view is up and down which is OK given the wide angle but for the cost I think it could have had the ability to auto rotate the lens views. So great camera angle, picture quality, ease of setup, night vision, voice capabilities but sub par mounting options and software options

This is another of those security cameras that you can set up in your house to monitor what happens there. I've used a couple of rival brands and, in terms of the camera, this one is my favorite. It's an adjustable camera, solidly made and has a speaker for two-way communication. It seems quite solid and the it produces is crisp and clear. As far as I'm concerned, the camera is great. The only reason that it's not getting a 5th star is because I have had challenges with the interface on my phone. The system is quite sensitive and I keep getting notified about plants moving in a breeze. Decreasing the sensitivity might solve my problem, but I can't figure out if it's possible. I also don't like the constant reminder that there are other accessories that will fit into the system. Sure, all of the other tech companies do the same thing and I shouldn't ding this company for doing the same thing, but I'd rather not have the constant reminder. That all being said, I really love being able to look in at my dog during the day and surprise him with a, "good boy!" If you're in the market for an indoor security camera, this one is pretty good.

Disclaimer: I have received this item for free in exchange for my honest opinion on the product. I use this camera to keep tabs on my dog to see what she's up to while I'm at work (I also have it set up in my living room to keep tabs for security, but I live in a secured building, so I'm not really expecting to see much action in that aspect). I can log on from anywhere using my iPhone 8+ and the Kasa app, and can control and set up different features from the app, as well. You can set it up to alert you on your phone if there's motion in range of the camera (which, if like me, you have animals, you might get them quite often, so it might get annoying), and you can turn audio/video recording on and off, as well. My favorite feature? From the app, I can talk to my dog (and any potential unwelcome individuals). The only part I am weary about is the video lagged quite a bit when I was trialing it, which might be because I had it set on high quality. All in all, it seems to do what it is supposed to do and does it well! Set up was a breeze, as well!

    Awesome Indoor Security Camera!

I was very impressed by this security Camera. I did not have high hopes as I have had other TP-Link products and they did not perform the best. Setup of the camera is very simple. You plug it into the wall, download the app, and then its as easy as following the directions in the app. I was very impressed by the build quality. I was expecting it to be made of plastic but the body is metal. This gives it a more premium feel. It also comes with a bracket to mount it to a wall. The only downside is that you have to plug it into power, but since it is micro USB you could easily get an extension. The quality of the image in both light and dark is high quality. You can set the app to notify you anytime it detects motion. From my testing the notifications were instantaneous and work flawlessly even in the dark. The only downfall was that I could not figure out how to set a time when to notify me. I only want it to notify me when I am asleep or not home. The notifications got annoying when I was at home walking by it. I believe that this is an option but I have not figured it out yet. Overall I would recommend this to anyone looking for indoor security.

    Really Liking it So Far

Ive been wanting an indoor security camera for some time, so when the opportunity to get the Kasa Camera came around I was very excited. When the camera arrived, I was a bit disappointed that there is not any comprehensive users guide included. Once set up was started, I wished there was one. I had a few issues getting the camera set up. First the camera would not update, when I looked for some help, there really is none. No customer service number only an email CS address. That is not helpful when you need assistance right away. But with some help from Google I managed to get past the update issue. Basically I had to reset everything and start over. There is an app that needs to be downloaded, which I did from the start, because you cannot set it up without the app. After I was updated and ready to roll, I then had difficulty getting the live feed to show up on my phone. I tried everything I could think of and finally deleted the app, restarted my device and did the set up again. This time everything was smooth and I was up and running. Not sure what the original issues were, but its all working just fine now. I have it set up to notify me with both sound and motion, well now I get a notification every 10 seconds or so, the included documentation doesn’t really explain how to get notifications how you want them, so I just stsrted diving into the menu and changing settings. I never really got what I was looking for so I just turned off notifications altogether on my phone, then turn them back on when I leave home. As far as the operation of the camera, it is very good, very good picture, picks up most every sound and motion. The camera also has two way communication which works very well, as a matter of fact better than my Nest doorbell, and never goes offline which is awesome. You get 30 days free of the storage service, which is fantastic. I plan to pay once the trial expires, it just makes sense. Once set up properly and its up and running this is easily a 5 star camera. For me the set up and lack of documentation is a big drawback which is why I deducted one star. A plug and play device should be just that, plug and play. There are many out there who would have just given up on the camera if they had the same issues I had setting it up. And that would be a shame, because this is a fantastic device and is worth whatever effort it takes to get it up and running. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for an indoor security camera. As I stated earlier it is so good, so good, it is worth any effort it takes to get the camera set up and running. We are in the age of I want everything right now, so a customer service number would be better than a customer service email, not everyone has the patience to wait for the time it would take to respond to an email request for assistance. Overall I really like it and plan to have it for as long as it will work. I may even get a couple more for other areas of the house.

      Hi,

Thank you for your review. We always recommend ensuring your router's WiFi signal is adequately strong in the smart device's location. Within the Kasa Smart app there's a feature that allows you to measure WiFi signal strength of your smart devices. When the app is connected, please check the signal strength in the Device Settings menu.

If the signal is within the ideal range and you're still experiencing these symptoms, there may be WiFi congestion in your environment, which can typically be mitigated by adjusting the router's WiFi channel settings. We're sorry to hear you decided to return the camera; we would've been more than happy to help. In the future, please feel free to email Kasa.Support@TP-Link.com and we'll gladly follow up.

    Great Image & Build Quality

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I found the Kasa Cam to be very comparable to the Nest Cam, but much cheaper. The build quality also seems to be better! Another reason why I prefer this to the Nest Cam is that TP-Link do not have a forced and aggressive subscription plan like Nest! In fact, the Kasa Cam comes with 2 days of free video history, and the option of a paid monthly subscription if you choose to have one. The camera is well equipped, and comes with a stand, extra-long USB cable, power adapter and as a bonus a wall mounting kit too! I found it funny that a few reviews complained about the camera being black, but the USB cable being white! I actually prefer this and don’t think this was an oversight at all. If I were to wall mount the Kasa Cam, I would much rather have the cable that runs down the wall being white instead of black! A black cable would be an eyesore! Naturally, since this is called the “Kasa Cam”, setup with the “Kasa App” was very easy. The on screen instructions are straightforward and easy to follow. The features on this camera are excellent. It even has Amazon Alexa integration. At this time, Alexa support is limited to the Echo Show and Fire TV, where you are able to show/hide the camera on the display. With the 130 degree wide angle view, I am able to see the whole room, even from close range. The 2-way audio with built-in microphone work very well, and the speaker is surprisingly loud! It is very useful if you have a pet, and want them to hear your voice to calm them, or to scold them if they are doing anything they are not meant to be doing! Other features like the motion detection are great! You get a notification if any motion (or sound) is detected. You are also able to exclude certain areas from the camera view to trigger any motion alert. This can be very useful, for instance, if you have a plant that moves a lot (especially with the AC blowing), you can exclude it from the detection zone. The image is truly crystal clear and I was blown away by the quality. The night vision is very effective, and the camera is able to atomically switch it on when needed. This is a well-built camera, with plenty of features that other named brand cameras lack! Submitted as part of a free sample program.

I have never been a fan of TP Link products, until now! This Kasa indoor cam has already proven to be very effective with baby sitting. First, setup was a breeze, I was able to do it all through the app on my android phone. The app is super easy to navigate and always connects in seconds, even in low signal areas. The picture quality is top notch during the day or when lights are on. Nighttime, it is not that great, so I leave a small lamp on, it does very well then. Being able to use it with my Alexa is also a great feature once setup, still learning all the commands but I can just tell Alexa to record and the camera starts working. I highly recommend the Kasa camera, especially if you are parents that want some alone time and have to get a babysitter.

This camera is built very well and has a great feel to it out of the box. It is solid and has an adjustable base to stand where you want it placed or you can wall mount it with the included screws and wall taps. The picture is crystal clear with adjustable settings from 720 to 1080 resolution. The mic is super sensitive and picks up the smallest sounds in a room. I will be using this camera primarily as a baby monitor as I have the ability to watch, listen, and talk back thru the mic. It has a great night vision feature and also motion sensor which records motion and sound when activated. I absolutely love this camera and the cell phone app is very user friendly and easy to setup with the camera. Definitely a worthwhile purchase.
