Great value for a security camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The TP LINK Casa Cam is priced less than the premium competitors. Despite that, I found the Casa Cam to be an excellent value. The company provides up to 2 days of storage (about 1 GB) for your recordings so that is also a value vs other competitors. The video quality is excellent. I have tried other products and the quality compares well with more expensive models. Setup was easy as the camera was up and running in minutes. It would be nice for consumer electronics companies to offer a choice of cord colors. This cord is white so whether this is good or bad for you depends on how much cord will be showing for you wherever you set it up. Now I know what our pets do when we aren't around!

Nice quality camera, needs HomeKit though
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are many cameras like this on the market now and they all do essentially the same thing with minor variations, so to stand out there needs to be some kind of differentiating feature. HomeKit compatibility could have been that for this camera, but it does not have it. I put that out there first b/c that is why I docked my rating by one star. Everything else about the camera is nice - the ease of setup, the app, the recording quality, the different installation options and positions, the build quality, etc. It's a nice security camera. But, it needs HomeKit. Oh, and a cheaper cloud recording subscription.

Posted .Hi,
We always recommend ensuring your router's WiFi signal is adequately strong in the smart device's location. Within the Kasa Smart app there's a feature that allows you to measure WiFi signal strength of your smart devices. When the app is connected, please check the signal strength in the Device Settings menu.
If the signal is within the ideal range and you're still experiencing these symptoms, please ensure your Kasa Smart app is up to date, then update your smart device's firmware using the steps in our FAQ: http://www.tp-link.com/us/faq-1256.html

Easy set up, clear picture
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This camera was quite easy to set up. The hardest thing was getting it out of the box. The picture that the camera gives is surprisingly crisp and clear. Gives a very wide angle. Has capability to talk through the camera via wifi with the app from the App Store. My only complaint (and the reason for the 4 stars) is that it is a BLACK camera that comes with a WHITE power cord - what on earth!! This makes it stick out like a sore thumb, which defeats the purpose of a security camera. Don't know what they were thinking on that one.

Posted .Hi Memy,
Thank you for your feedback. Our Kasa Cam is designed to provide clear video, day or night, so you can keep an eye on what's important to you. In your case, we recommend ensuring the camera's Night Vision feature is set to Automatic. You can adjust this setting within the Kasa Smart app by selecting your Kasa Cam, then tapping the Device Settings icon (top-right), then select Night Vision.

Great Home Security Camera, 1080p + Cloud Storage
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Kasa Cam KC120 home security camera is a welcome addition to the group of TP- Link smart home plugs and bulbs that I'm already managing with TP-Link's mobile KASA app. The setup was as quick and easy as I've come to expect from TP-Link products, and it has been working flawlessly. It has a sleek design with a magnetic stand and also comes with screws and a mounting plate, providing many placement options. The motion- and sound-triggered camera records video at 1080p and includes 1GB of free cloud storage that will cover about 2 days of encrypted video history with optional plans for more storage. When I place the camera in a corner, the 130-degree wide-angle glass lens and infrared night vision shows me a clear image of almost the entire room. In the KASA app I can remotely live-stream, save video to my phone, use the two-way audio, and set custom activity zones that I want to monitor. Another outstanding feature is the ability to integrate multiple cameras in different rooms and control them with Amazon Echo Show voice commands. This model is wired and designed only for indoor use, and I'm hoping TP-Link will eventually add an outdoor camera of this quality to their lineup. In the interim, I've successfully tested this one near a window overlooking my front walk, so I'm able to get an alert as soon as anyone approaches my door or delivers a package. Submitted as part of a free sample program.

Nice cam, not perfect
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Set up was a breeze. Camera was easy to set up on my iPhone Kasa app. Mounted the camera in the living room. Mounting was easy as well. Images were clear and motion detection works well. Like the fact that it has free 2 day recording in the cloud. Only negative was that it would only record 20 second clips instead of the full detection sequence. Wish it would switch to at least 30 or 40 second clips when motion is still detected. No zoom but for my location it was not a requirement.

Easy setup, extremely reliable
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've set up similar cameras before, and I found the setup to be fairly easy for the Kasa Cam. However, it did fail the first time because I entered the wrong WiFi password and it didn't warn me and just failed. To TP Link's credit though, the app walked me through resetting the camera and starting the process over. Once setup, I found the app easy to use and the video/audio to be very good quality. Overall, it's a great camera that stands up to its competitors.

Posted .Hi Wildwill,
Thank you for sharing your experience with our product. We always appreciate constructive feedback; can you please elaborate on how you would like this feature to be implemented? Please bear in mind that intrusion protection is typically accomplished with more than just a camera; such as motion or proximity sensors, door and window sensors, etc.

So close TP-Link, needs more time in the minors
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The TP-Link Kasa Cam is my first try of a TP-Link camera . Which is not surprising , because this is their for true foray into the 1080P smart security cam market ( they have had tons of other IP cams in the past but they were all 720P.) I own many different smart cams – Arlo, Samsung Smart Cam and D-Link so I have feel for what are the features that make a good cam. So let’s take a look - Design and specs Normally I do not go into too many details on the specs when reviewing a product. Everyone can look that up on the details and specifications pages from manufacturer and Bestbuy. Suffice to say it has top of line features - 1080P, night vision, a speaker, and microphone etc like most of the better cams on the market. It does require a power source ( no battery) but TP-Link does provide a 10 ft USB power cord. It is not a big deal, Arlo is the only one that features a battery for power and the TP link is nearly half the price. What is does lack is no option for on board storage. This seems to be the way all manufacturers are going , no onboard storage and everything in the cloud. That is fine for most but I like the backup of having onboard storage. But that is a minor quibble. The overall build is excellent - sleak camera construction and a very stable metal base. TP-Link gets extra points for this. It may seem minor, but compared to some other manufacturers, this offers superior stability. Setup The installation is straightforward. Download the Kasa app, plug the camera in and connect to it through the app. It picked up the camera right away and installed it. The camera did run into a problem after that , I think. The cam went active right away and immediately went into updating the firmware. It was picking up motion and I could view the live feed through the alerts tab. However, I could not use the camera directly during the firmware update. That is understandable. However, the firmware progress was stuck at 100% for 2.5 hours or so. During the update, there was no indication on the camera itself. After an hour, give or take, I unplugged the camera, relocated it and plugged it back in. The cam came back on line almost immediately but went back to the updating firmware. I left it and checked back over an hour later and it finally came finished. I cannot imagine a firmware update taking this long and there was nothing wrong with my network. In the end, it did work. You will notice that I wrote “I think” in the beginning of this paragraph when talking about a problem. I could not find any reference to the issue online & maybe I jumped the gun after an hour of waiting ? I’m not sure but if that is the norm, TP-Link should let people know. Performance, features and app The video is very good. Low light and night vision are decent with little graininess. Color reproduction is bit on the yellow side but one does not buy a smart cam for color reproduction. The sound and motion sensitivity were exceptional and adjustable . You can set activity zones to zero in on where you want the motion to activate the cam. In reference to the sound, I found the mic to be very powerful and pick up sounds from the next room with no problem. The Kasa Cam does have a speaker for two way communication but it is relatively weak ( unless I missed a setting somewhere.) I have read several reviews that there is no zoom function on the camera. That is not true, you can zoom in both live stream and recorded video. It is a digital zoom but it worked great. The app is everything to this cam - all the set up, access and updates. It is easy to use but should be more robust in design. I own a Pixel XL2 and it has crashed several times. Additional, if this is going to be part of a home security system ( as in cameras , motion sensors, entry switches etc,) there should be a simple way to arm and disarm. You can go into “privacy mode” that turns off the camera but it is not the same as the competition I think with some additional tweaking, it will be much better. The bad - Oh TP-Link - you were so close. Here are the cons - it only comes with 2 days of cloud storage. Anything more you have to pay for. When are these companies going to learn that unless you are the best there is out there, do not try to charge for a service until it is more developed. Here is an idea TP-Link - partner with another vendor such as anti-virus, X-Box games, Apple someone where you can package your service with theirs . Even if you don’t , offer more than the competition. Take a look at what the fellows at NetGear are doing with Arlo. - the Kasa Cam does not do manual recordings. That is correct, you cannot press record anywhere I found in the app. How outright stupid is that? ALL YOUR COMPETITION DOES THAT. Even $30 cams have that option. - The Kasa Cam does not take still pictures. Not a deal breaker but the cost to make that as an option is very little. - You cannot specify how long to record after motion is detected. TP-Link, if you are going to base paid service on storage time and file size limits, why would not want the user be able to select the record time? This is a big negative for me - Cannot access live feed or recorded video from a web site. I really do not understand why manufacturers think PC’s are dead. If I am a user, especially a paid user, I want the ability to go my computer and view and download recordings. TP-Link has done that in the past ( from what I have researched,) why would they not offer it? In summary, it is a mixed bag. The affordable TP-Link Kasa Cam is solidly constructed smart camera with good performance and features but falls short on the execution of some key features and functions that should be there. Based on that, I cannot recommend it until some changes are made. I’m not sure why they would strip down some features that appear on their legacy 720P cameras . However, I am giving it 3 stars and there is hope here. I think with some updates that appear to be on the programming side, TP-Link would have a home run here and I would give it 4 or more stars. This feels like TP-Link put a lot of thought into the product but fell short on the app and the controls - sometimes a sign they a company rushed to market and left the "beta" feel to the overall product package. I rate this as a wait and see product..

And Now You Can Know
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m REALLY enjoying the TP-Link Kasa Cam. As an owner of several kinds of home cameras, the Kasa Cam affords customization that I really appreciate. The camera stand/base is solid weight and has a STRONG magnet within it so you know that it’s not going anywhere even if you or a pet accidentally bump it. The camera is required to be always plugged in which I don’t mind since, with my wireless cameras, I will sometimes forget that they need to be charged which leads to them going dead. As I mentioned before, there are customized features like recording videos with or without audio. There’s also motion sensitivity settings so that you’re not getting notifications each time your dog or cat are walking past the camera range. Speaking of range, the HD, wide lens view in one of the more impressive features that I have seen on an in-home camera. When viewing live footage, there’s hardly any lag if at all most of the time. The microphone/speaker provides audio which is great since I will talk to my cats through the camera via the app which dumbfounds them most of the time. There is the option to connect the Kasa Cam with Amazon’s Alexa but I don’t have an Alexa device so I cannot give my opinion as to that functions. At the end of the day, the Kasa Cam simply gives you an extra set of eyes when you can’t be everywhere at once. Whether you have kids, pets or think you might have heard something at night, knowing is a click away.

Great WiFi Camera!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this camera just in time for a week away trip and thought I'd use it to keep up with my animals in my bedroom. This has been the best camera I have owned in both quality wise and motion detection wise. Its almost an instant notification when motion is detected both day and night. Night Vision works awesomely! in a pitch dark room you can see everything! I added an image in the review, it works extremely well. Camera reliably kept working along with the app with no issue, I do like that the app also works with my other TP-Link smart devices instead of having separate apps for everything. When I am not away this will be used as a front yard security camera due to the wide angle views (You can see everything!) Currently the cloud is beta and free, they do have some free options that include way more than some other brands I've had and the prices for the paid tiers are very good. Highly recommended for a home camera for muti uses! Submitted as part of a free sample program.

Good Security Cam for a Good Price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The TP-LINK - Kasa Cam is, at its core, a great camera for watching an area of your home and being notified of any activity. I like the form-factor and ease of physical installation. Very simple and direct. The variations for installing, including magnetic, are elegant and the image is sharp and clear. The reason I didn't give it 5-stars are: 1. The very basic installation instructions told me to get the 'Kasa for Mobile' app - but the only app fitting that description was a social media app. By deduction, I figured out it's the 'Kasa' app with a stylized home logo (there were many apps with 'kasa' in the name). 2. Audio latency for talking through the cam into the room is extreme when the internet is below 5 mps upload speed (13-30 seconds). Even thought the latency of the room a/v was only 1-2 seconds at only 9 mps download. This was on the same home network and meant you couldn't actually have a conversation with someone in the room. 3. Also, the audio sensitivity, which is great for hearing quiet sounds, becomes distorted and unrecognizable with loud sounds. For basic image and quick notifications of movement or sound, it worked great and included snapshots. Because this is my primary need, I still consider this a good value and, as said above, the form-factor and physical installation are very nice.

great camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.so first, a few things so far I do not like about it, I cant use it directly with my computer, like a webcam or something. with its wide range, it would have been great to be able to use with computer. if you talk from the app, it pauses the audio going in, and then takes a few seconds before it resumes. so if I say hi, and the person on camera says hi back you wont hear them say hi back unless they wait about 5 seconds or so. and, you cant use it if out and about. you have to be on the same network. but, its still a great camera. full HD and very wide range. I think its like 130 degrees or something. the video is clear and was easy to set up. app took a bit longer to fully get set up but once done, it works great. small and light. the only reason I am giving a 3 star is the lack of support for using this with a pc. granted you can get a emulator that emulates a phone and do that. but I should not have to do that.

Great security or Nanny Cam
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are looking for great video quality, easy two way communication and affordability in a camera then this is for you. Setup is easy, video quality can be set from 360p, 720p and 1080p. The mic to pick up sounds is very sensitive and can pick up sounds from other rooms which is great. Two way communication is also possible so talking to your kids, nanny etc from afar is possible and a fantastic feature. If you have an Amazon Echo Show, you can operate with voice commands etc. I would have liked to see more flexible support such as ability to work with Wink or other Smart Home Hubs. The app is ok, but certain features are not enabled and while it appears you can choose when to be notified of activity in front of the cameras field of view, you can only choose “Always” instead of on a schedule which is something I hope they unlock in the future. Overall, for the price, id recommend this camera.

Thank you for your review. After installing one of your KC120 Kasa Cams, you should be able to easily install the second unit via the Kasa app using the same steps as the first. Please ensure the camera is in an area where your router's WiFi signal is sufficiently strong, and if need be, perform a WiFi config reset by pressing and holding the reset button for 3 to 15 seconds.
