Its not necessary for every switch in my house but just a few like my front door light or main light in my house. Its nice to have control over turning them on and off. Its also even more convenient having them on pre planned schedule, so they turn on and off at specified times automatically. The app is very well developed too. It can be a little tricky installing the switch in the wall. I was able to install two by myself but needed to hire an electrician to do one since that switch didnt have the right wires. The wires coming from this smart switch are: white, black, black and green fyi
