Tapo Smart WiFi Deadbolt - Awesome Lock!

I just installed the Tapo Smart WiFi Deadbolt and I'm seriously impressed! Got it for only $150 which is a total steal compared to other smart locks out there. Installation was a breeze - took me maybe 30 minutes tops, and I'm definitely not a handyman! The app setup was super straightforward, and now I can lock/unlock my door from anywhere. Haven't had a single issue with the WiFi connection dropping either.
The best part? No more digging for keys when my hands are full of groceries! My favorite feature has to be the auto-lock and fingerprint - total peace of mind knowing my door is secure even when I forget. Fingerprint scanner works perfectly every time too. Absolutely worth every penny at $150! Five stars all day for this thing - easiest home upgrade I've made in ages!

BACKGROUND: I currently own and use daily two Tapo products. A Tapo TC55 Smart Floodlight Camera and a Tapo TC73 Pan/Tilt AI Home Security Wi-Fi Camera. Both are configured with the Tapo “All-in-One Hub” Application. And this Tapo DL110 Deadbolt Lock is a welcomed addition to my current IoT Smart Home Technologies. My goal being to eventually replace all of my other non-TP-Link devices with Tapo devices.
BOTTOM LINE: Once I completed the installation to my wife’s satisfaction, the TP-Link / Tapo DL110 functioned as described without issues. Since I was already familiar with the Tapo application, it was very easy for me to setup and configure using the app. Plus, it is simple to use this lock with or without the application. There are numerous methods to open and lock: Keys, Passcodes, Fingerprints, Application WiFi or BT, plus Voice Commands. And one can configure the app for “Auto-Close” after a few minutes. Must also mention the “Door Bell” button that covers the keyhole as a very smart design feature. If you are looking for a “smart deadbolt”, and are not currently committed to owning an array of other vendor’s technologies, then I highly recommend DL-110.
RATING: This TP-Link - Tapo DL110 Smart Wi-Fi Deadbolt Lock earned itself a solid 5-Star Rating for its functionality and numerous useful features.
TL;DR
INSTALLATION: My intention with this DL100 was to replace an existing deadbolt lock on our 35-year-old home. Although the “Interior & Exterior Assemblies” fit in the existing opening after removing the large spacer, the “Bolt” alignment was a tad off center, and it would not open/close smoothly with some binding. To resolve, I used my Dremel flex-shaft extension with a small sanding drum to finesse our wood door cut-out holes. That did the trick and rest of the mounting went quickly.
DOORKNOB MODIFICATION: After the DL110 installation was completed, our existing doorknob was very close to the bottom of the DL110 assembly and now “recessed” in relationship to the much deeper DL110 protruding lock assembly. This made it difficult to grasp and turn the knob to open the door. And that made my wife less than satisfied with an ultimatum of “fix it or remove the lock”. To resolve, I had to fabricate a knob extension that would align our doorknob with the bottom of the DL110 assembly.
I used a 2” PVC cap by Charlotte Pipe from Home Depot ($2.61). Cut a hole in the cap top to allow the knob to seat. Then used my bench grounder to lower depth to about 1-1/8th inch that matched up well with the bottom of the DL110. This mod also required longer knob mounting screws that I just happened to have in my “never throw anything away stash”. Sprayed the bezel extension with a few coats of black paint. Wife is now 100% satisfied, Happy Wife = Happy Life! See before and after pictures.
The point of explaining this fabrication is to alert potential buyers that your current location of an existing doorknob and dead bolt may not be ideal when installing this, or any vendor’s, smart lock. And therefore, may require additional work arounds to meet expectations. I do not consider this the fault of the TP-Link but falls under the adage “Nothing is a 15-minute Job.” Note that Professional Installation should be considered if you are not of Handyman status and do not have the ability to think through problems for working solutions.
NIT-PICK 1: I wish the interior locking assembly had a button to electronically lock and unlock the door in addition to the mechanical turn-lock. Not a showstopper, and I assume it was intentionally not included as a way to extent battery life.
NIT-PICK 2: Advertised as “Quick & Easy Installation: Tapo DL110 boasts a hassle-free setup with all mounting tools included.” when no tools were included. (Now if you don’t already own a Phillips screwdriver, then you should not be attempting installation.)

Easy to unlock with finger print. Fast response with keypad but a bit difficult with key. I which they made or do they make one without a doorbell?

I was originally looking at the Yale locks, but they seemed over priced. I have multiple TAPO / TP-Link light bulbs and light switches and this lock had all of the important features for a much better price: keypad, fingerprint, 9v battery emergency option as well as a physical key option
It was very easy to install and set up. I’ve had these for 9 months now. Recharging the batteries is really easy and pretty quick. I’ve done it twice in those 9 months, but I never let them get very low. I have three of these on my house and am very pleased with them. Friends just asked me to send them the link because they want them now as well.

Exactly what I’ve been looking for in a new lock. The app set up and use is very intuitive and easy. Replacing my old lock was simple and quick. The fingerprint access is next level and really great when my hands are full. Between app control, specific codes and fingerprint it’s everything I’ve wanted. As a bonus the power brick being USBC charging is a huge plus and the app sharing how much battery is left is a big help.

Positive: this door lock is excellent extremely easy to install no problems whatsoever love the color works excellent biometric
Negative: I can’t find a replacement battery. When this battery runs out, which for me maybe pretty quickly, I have no replacement battery. I would have to charge this one and then put it back which means I won’t be able to use it for at least five hours for the battery to charge. I’m willing to purchase an additional battery, but unfortunately can’t find one.

I picked this up a while ago during a sale, and it’s turned out to be a great purchase. It had all the features I was looking for, and installation was a breeze—my friend had it up and running in just 15 minutes. Charging took a few hours, but once it was ready, it exceeded my expectations. It’s super responsive and performs exactly as advertised. I’m really glad I went with this one.

Keeper with one flaw

An affordable fingerprint sensor bolt lock with as many options as other more expensive ones with one flaw.
You have two options when setting up. WIFI or Bluetooth. Both options allows you to lock and unlock by fingerprint, passcode, voice commands, or with included backup keys.
The big flaw is, you have to choose between accessing the lock remotely from anywhere (WIFI only) or have the door unlock when you are close (Bluetooth only) You cannot have both.
So you really have only 5 ways to lock and unlock, not 6. Which is plenty. Fingerprint sensor is very fast and works 99% of the time. Sometimes you might have to reposition your finger a little.
Built quality is good. Installing is simple. It goes in just like any other normal locks. Setting up is also simple and straight forward.
Keeping it, but 4.5 stars because of the wifi/Bluetooth thing. Maybe in the future, they'll do a firmware update so we wouldn't have to choose one or the other.
There's also a fairly loud doorbell below the keypad with the key entrance hidden inside.

Great looking set!! Also had never failed on the finger print use! Easy install about 10 minutes for us & easy ap set up. I love that it comes with physical keys!! People now a days take things for granted that technology will always work sonits nice to have an actual key just in case something happens!! My husband is not into any technology and was NOT thrilled when i showed him the lock but it took about 10 mins for us to install & it looks great. Id rather have a video camera than a doorbell but it doesnt bother me being there & is a great option for people who need a bell but cant or dont want to have the house one fixed or installed. It rings through the deadbolt setup but its still pretty loud. The key hole is also nicely places behind the doorbell button so you dont see it unless you pull the doorbell cap off and its attached with a bungee sonit wont get lost. You can use multiple functions we have the code set up as well as each of use have our own finger print. It has NEVER failed on any of us!! I was leary about getti g a lovk like this but this had 4.8 stars with hundreds of reviews. Even the other big brand lovks dont havr that and i always read how the finger print reader rarely worked. Not this set!!! It had a great price point even if its not on sale but i got it on sale. Easy to set up & install including the ap easy for even my husband and he runs out of patience for technology set up in 2 seconds and he thinks this lovk is the greatest thing aside from the color changing light bulbs we have from this company!! I also get notifications when the lovk is opened and relocked. It also talks so everytime you lovk and u lovk it tells you. That is annoying but i havent sat down to figure if i can mute that! On day my husband is off i dont want to wake him up using the door! Like other users said you cant use wifi & bluetooth at the same time. So you pick what you think is more functional. You can also use your watch or phone to unlock the lock as well. The finger print is so awesome we just use that but if your family orefers their own option you have them. The battery is supposed to last a year on the chRge but im guessing it depends on how much your going in & out and if you can mute the talking. We keep the key in the garage jn case of emergencies!! The best part of this lock…. when you get home & your hands are full and you forgot to dig your keys out of your purse. I dont use the key to start my car so its not like years ago where you just automatically have keeys in your hand… its definately worth it in every way!!!

This product is nothing short of amazing and I will purchase it anywhere I deem I need one from here on out. Where to start, I'm an idiot who sometimes forgets their keys because I forgot to transfer them into my new pants or shorts I'm wearing that day. This has resulted in me locking myself out of my condo twice on accident. I bought this for the features such as the fingerprint or being able to put in the pin. It's just good to have something that I can get unlocked even though I have rarely done this, I wanted to make sure I had something to where it wouldn't happen. Let's face it we are all busy and things like this help us if we make dumb mistakes. It's also just nice to have in general. Extremely happy with this and this is a no-brainer especially for the cost. There are other products that are far more expensive and you don't get anything more. It's also nice that you get a key that you can actually copy somewhere instead of some proprietary key. Why companies do that I don't know.. Buy with confidence!

We needed a new door lock and decided on this one because of price and features. By far the easiest smart home product i have ever set up. If you have ever done smart home stuff it sucks to set up and is buggy most times. This was so much easier. The app is simple and the lock connected to my wifi quickly. Install is like every other lock so its pretty simple. The finger print has worked really well and wuickly evey time ive used it. I was skeptical when i first baught it but it has impressed me so far.

Works exactly how it should, zero issues so far. It was nice not having to download yet another app on my phone. I love that it connects to WiFi, can open through the app, add additional fingerprints, built in doorbell and can also use a physical key for a backup.
