      Hi,

Thank you for your review. We always recommend ensuring your router's 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal is adequately strong in the smart device's location.

If the signal is within the ideal range, and you're still experiencing these symptoms, please ensure your Tapo app is up to date, then update your smart device's firmware by selecting Me → Firmware Update within the Tapo app.

The tp-link tapo TP25 smart Wi-Fi outdoor plug is a great way to bring automation and external control to the outside of your home. The plug is IP65 waterproof so you can place it almost anywhere outdoors. This has been great for controlling my holiday lights by setting up automations thanks to the HomeKit integration. The plug supports Matter, so you will be able to integrate with your preferred home control ecosystem. I own outdoor Wi-Fi plugs by another manufacture and one of the best features of this plug is the ability to control the individual outlets independently. Setup is easy using the tapo app. I did encounter a slight issue when attempting to add the plug to my Apple Home but was eventually able to add the device to my home. You can also use the tapo app to control the outlets and also create timers, schedules and even turn off the LED status light on the plug. Another interesting item within the app is you can also get information on runtime for the past day, week, month.

      Hi,

Thank you for your review. TP-Link Tapo Smart plugs are designed to provide convenient, intuitive smart automation for your home. If you are having difficulty setting up the smart plug, please ensure your router's 2.4GHz Wi-Fi signal is sufficiently strong at the plug's location, and that your smartphone is not connected to a VPN, as this will directly interfere with the connection process.

We also recommend ensuring your Tapo app, as well as the firmware for your Tapo products, are fully up to date.

      Hi Jeff,

Thank you for your review. Our Tapo Outdoor Smart Plug with Matter offers the same intuitive Schedule and automation functions as our indoor Tapo Smart Plugs. Please be advised that since the Outdoor Smart Plug has two outlets, each is treated as an individual smart plug, and will need to be configured accordingly via the Tapo app.

The TP-Link Tapo TP25 Outdoor Wifi plug is the latest addition to my smart home. Years ago I started with SmartThings and Caseta and have stuck mostly to Zigbee and Zwave as a result. The Tapo Wifi Plug is my first Matter device, and I'm pleased at how easy it was to set up directly in the Smartthings app, without having to set up an account with TP-Link to do so. To add, you simply choose the "Matter" setup option in SmartThings and scan the QR code right on the TP link device itself. Afterwards you choose the wifi network you want to add it to, and that's it. You're done! I also tried it with the Tapo app from TP-Link as I already have a TP-Link account from using their Deco mesh Wifi system and it was similarly easy to set up. Feature-wise, the Tapo Outdoor Smart plug works pretty much the same in either the Tapo app or directly in SmartThings. There are two outlets on the device itself, and you can control each plug independently from your app of choice. This adds quite a bit of flexibility when configuring outdoor lights. You could have one plug set to turn on at dusk, and the other plug set to turn on when one of your other smart-connected motion or contact sensors triggers. Being able to do this with two outlets on an inexpensive smart plug is great. My only complaint feature-wise is that I wish it sent back the actual power draw on the outlets. This is useful in a lot of situations with any smart plug, but for an outdoor smartplug it could be especially useful as you could use this to detect whether a string of Christmas lights is partially out, for example. I think the TP25 is priced aggressively and I wouldn't hesitate recommending it to my friends and family whether they are already smarthome gurus or not. Two thumbs up.

Smart Dual Outdoor Plug Makes It So Much Easier

This is a great plug to have for outdoors, if you have a smart home. Setup for this plug is easy. You just need to install the Tapo app onto your phone, which works with either android or iOS, plug in the outdoor plug and add it to your app. It was pretty simple if you have installed smart devices with apps before. You also get a clamp that you can screw into a wall, so that the plug doesn’t just hang off the outlet once plugged in. If you are only using one of the outlets make sure the other is covered so that no water can get in. Once your plug is installed and set up with your home’s WiFi, you can turn off and on any devices you have plugged into this with either a Google Assistant or Alexa device. I truly love this outdoor plug. I can plug two different things into it and each outlet works individually. I have a fountain on one of the plugs and fairy lights on the other right now. I named each plug so that I can just turn each one off/on as needed. I have so many ways of using this plug. This Christmas, I plan on having an outdoor Christmas tree on one plug and the other with my Christmas lights. This makes things so much easier, especially during the winter. Instead of heading outside in the cold to turn lights on or off, I can do it by asking either Google or Alexa to do it for me from a nice warm house. If I forget that I left the Christmas lights on, I can turn them off from my bed, instead of having to throw on a jacket and head outside to unplug them. I have found this plug to be an important part of my smart home as it is a simple and easy to use device. I highly recommend this to anyone that has things that they plug in outside or inside for that matter.

Easy to use smart external double plug

This external plug is really nice. It is part of the Tapo family by TP-Link which also has the Kasa set of smart devices. They both seem to work very well for me, I have several of different types, like plugs, bulbs, dimmers and so on. I was a little bit torn on getting the Tapo device since most of my devices are within the Kasa set, but to my surprise while installing this external plug I was informed that I can automatically import all my Kasa devices to the Tapo app, all that was needed was to give permission for the transfer and then it was all completed. I still can use my Kasa app and see all the imported devices there. Anyway, the installation of this external plug was really easy. Just go to the Tapo app, select add the device, then select this TP25, plug in the plug let the lights blink and press go, the app finds the device. No need to switch to the local device WiFi, just set it and forget it, very easy. Within the app I can rename the plug anyway I want it, set up schedules to my liking, most importantly since this is a double plug I can program each plug within the device separately. Overall I am happy with my new plug, another great addition to my Kasa/Tapo dependable family, just in time for the holidays.

I have been putting up Halloween and Christmas lights for years now, a lot of them in fact. And one thing that can be cumbersome when putting up lights that run on timers is getting it right in regards to coordinating them so they turn on and off at the same time. So enter the TP-Link Tapo Smart Wi-Fi Outdoor Plug. Now I have used the type of plugs like this indoors and this one functions much the same. As I already had the TP-Link app it was a very simple setup to get it up and running, less than five minutes later I was able to get it connected to my home wi-fi network and as those of us who have experience with this type of thing know: you can't take the ease of setup on these things for granted, because some of them can be very difficult to get up and running. The app gives you the ability to set the time and coordinate it. I know other apps are available as well that can typically control these products. Some offer the dusk and dawn settings which work great for the lights. I did not see that option in the app but honestly did not spend much time looking for it. For ease of use and functionallity this can't be beat, it has easy setup and seems built very well. I like how there are flaps you can pull down to cover the outlets that are not currently in use, helping to keep water out of the outlet and preventing a possible short. All in all I highly recommend the TP-Link Tapo Smart Wi-Fi, Outdoog Plug is a winner, and in fact, anything I've bought with the TP Link name on it has been a good, sound investment. The value of this is incredible, highly recommended!

The setup for this plug was a breeze. The app download, account setup, and addition of the plug took maybe five minutes. This is my first Tapo smart device, but I have numerous other brands of smart devices, plugs, and bulbs. The setup and use of the app is one of the best I've used. I could see myself adding more Tapo devices in the future due to the great performance and ease of use of the app. So far I have this plug installed on our front porch. It has been exposed to rain and has not had any issues. I like that the unit has manual switches for each individual plug for use as needed without going into the app. I also really like that each of the two plugs can be controlled independently of each other so if I want different lights or devices turned on at different times or on a dusk/dawn cycle, I can easily make that happen in the app. This plug has been a game changer so far with Halloween decorations and will be a fantastic addition to our Christmas light setup. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a super easy to use and highly customizable dual outdoor smart plug.

It blows my mind that we have evolved technologically to the point were a glorified extension cord (a short, two outlet dongle) has wi-fi and bluetooth built in so that you can remotely access it via an app on your smartphone to turn it on, turn it off, and even schedule days and times to turn on and off. Crazy! In order to use the features of this dongle, you need to install the application on your smartphone. Installation is quick and easy. The setup of the smart plug is also pretty easy through the app. Plug it in, make sure the bluetooth is enabled on your phone, and use the app to find and connect the device. There will probably be a firmware update that you have to install (which is another thing that just sounds strange... installing a firmware update for a power cord), but once that is done, you are all set to go. One really nice thing about the dual-outlet dongle is that the device gives you the option to turn on and off each of the two outlets independently. The "on/off" schedule for each of the two plugs, if you decide to set it, can be independent of each other as well. The unit also includes some mounting hardware to alleviate pressure on the plug if there is nothing for it to rest on. Ultimately, I could see this as being an awesome addition to exterior Christmas decoration lights or similar outdoor items that would benefit from being on a schedule.

I had not heard of Tapo before this and was a bit nervous about the quality of a product I’m not familiar with. This comes with Matter, which I couldn’t figure out how to make work while SmartThings on my Android was trying to connect with the QR-code but after getting an error msg, I moved on. I downloaded the TP-Link Tapo app and everything flowed quickly and easily. I plugged it into the outlet that I would be using and followed the directions, within a couple minutes it was working. I love that the directions were very clear and direct. The app has a lot of options to control and manage the plug, you can even set routines. A notification from Alexa says it discovered it but when I tried to connect, it would not connect for some reason. So I tried it with my Google Home and Google found it right away, it asked if it was a Matter device, I chose yes and scanned the Matter QR Code and it connected within seconds. I was able to speak to Google to control the plug and the plugs on and off. If you're only using one plug, they recommend covering the open one with the attached cap. This came just in time for our fall decorations. I am using one plug for our orange string light set on the front porch and the other for our light up pumpkin. I love that both plugs works independently of each other so I can turn off the pumpkin lights and still leave the string light set on. Since the app works well and I can use it with Google home, the fact that it’s my working with my Alexa, isn’t an issue for me. This also feels like a good quality outdoor plug. So far, I’m very happy with it.

I have a lot of smart plugs and this one blends in well with my smart home set up. It is pretty easy to set up but you do need to use the Tapo app, I was hoping it would work in my Tuya app but it doesn't. Not a huge deal as I use alexa to control everything after it's set up. So far the only quirk if found is that alexa doesn't see plug 2. When you set up this smart plug, it's split into 2 plugs(which is very nice) labeled out of the box as "plug 1" and "plug 2". Of course you can change the names to whatever you want. I'll have to dig deeper into this situation. Maybe just deleting and re installing it will work. That second plug will just control lights, so the schedule feature will come in handy for that. The main reason I got this Tapo smart plug is for its power rating. At 1800 watts max, it's higher than most out there. I have an older fireplace heater that I wanted to have a remote for, and I didn't want the plug to have a melt down. So far it's handling the 1500 watts just fine. Build quality is very solid compared to random named ones you find online. Being an outdoor plug will be great when it comes to changing the summer lights over to christmas.

Great Addition to Anyone's Holiday Lights Setup

The TP Link Tapo is a solid option for those looking for more control over an outdoor outlet, be it to control holiday lights (which is my personal usage of this unit) or for something else like patio lights. The build quality and feature set make this a truly "smart" product. I'll start with build quality. This thing feels substantial, pairing IP level dust and water resistance with solid feeling components to give confidence that this thing can withstand the outdoors. The power cord, which seems to always be a weak point for products like this, is especially solid. Giving this a right angle connector was a good move, helping to alleviate some of the constant stress you get with a regular straight plug. The real benefit of this plug is in the software smarts. Along with the expected app integrations with TP Link's own app, this plug also integrates with the likes of Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and Apple Home. Beyond that, though, is onboard Matter integration. Anyone that's suffered the past few years of trying to build a smart home knows the challenges inherent in the current market fragmentation that exists, and having Matter capability built in looks to be a huge feature moving forward as the Matter platform continues to expand and mature. All the integrations I tried worked great, with no flaws or issues, making it painless to tell any of my Google devices to "turn the holiday lights off". Anyone that's looking at smart plugs should consider the Tapo smart plug; it's from a reputable brand (which is more than you can say about the products from the likes of a big commerce that shall remain nameless), has great build quality, and has a deep set of smart home integrations that truly gives it the capability to be used anywhere.

Ok, this review will be about the Tapo outdoor smart plug from TP-Link, but most of what I think I will be writing is more about the Tapo app as that is where the smarts come from. Setup thru the app was painless. Get the light flashing between two colors, I think orange and green, and the plug shows up in the app you just pair at that point. The thing that shocked me about the Tapo app, it picked up most of my other smart devices in the house. I have quite a few KASA devices indoors and outdoors, and they all showed up on the app. Even more impressive, one of those smart plugs only works 'locally' with the KASA app based on the device model but it works remotely with the Tapo app. The build is quite good. The app is well designed. The configuration is easy as can be. I wish more smart devices would follow this example, because there are so many of the apps that make even the most tech conscious feel not so smart. This will make the holiday decorating much smoother this year. My previous smart plug I used for Christmas lights was a real pain to configure and had to be reconfigured every year because the device would no longer communicate to the app.
