Disappointing product that gave no improvement

Owned for 2 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had to return it as it didn't successfully extend the WiFi signal to a lower level in a split level home, which is why it was purchased. I ended up purchasing the ROKU Streaming Stick 4K [with extended long-range WiFi] and that greatly improved the WiFi speed in the lower level.

Internet speed dramatically dropped

Thank you for your review. Please bear in mind Wi-Fi extenders utilize half-duplex transmission. As a result, throughput when connecting to the extender may be reduced when compared to the router. This is an industry standard for Wi-Fi extenders and is not exclusive to TP-Link.
In your case, we recommend relocating the unit to a position in your home where the router's Wi-Fi signal is sufficiently strong; yet far enough from the router to effectively extend its range.

Ethernet port did not work consistently

It would connect to the internet and then disconnect and then connect back again. My home internet was working fine fine for all other devices connected to the internet, including my work laptop. I exchanged it for a Netgear and all is working well now.

Thank you for your review. If you were using the RE505X in Range Extender Mode and the Ethernet port was used for connecting a wired device to your LAN, please note that the extender's quality of Wi-Fi signal connection from your router will determine the stability and speed of the Ethernet port.
However, if you were using the RE505X in Access Point Mode, with its Ethernet connected to your LAN/router directly, and you still encountered this symptom, we would first recommend ensuring the firmware of the Range Extender is fully up to date, as shown in FAQ 1406 on our official TP-Link website: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1406/

Poor Service

I arranged my schedule for this instillation, sent a confirmation text and then - boom - I'm not coming. That is unprofessional and seriously disrupts my valid expectations for excellent service. Causes me to wonder why I should pay for Total Tech.

There is no reason why it should not have connected to the T-Mobile router, as long as it provides 2.4 GHz and 5 Ghz networks. The Router could be MAC Filtering which can make the product look like its not working. Support can help with this, so you know for next time. Our support is free and 24 hours too.

Posted .Use Ethernet? Can you elaborate? If you are using the product in AP mode, absolutely Ethernet is needed, because in AP mode the extender has to be physicality connected to the router. But in RE mode the extender's ethernet port is for a client and is optional.

Posted .With extenders placement is everything. They must be placed in an unobstructed areas that if between the router and where you want service extended and has a strong signal from the router. Extenders can only provide what they receive.
