It's finally working now and I'm happy with the cheap phone service, but it was a pain to setup and I'll explain some of the issues I had. My ZTE valet tracfone I had for 3 years was painfully slow and I needed an upgrade, so I thought okay with this $1 activation kit I could then buy a used galaxy s5 on ebay and transfer my number/minutes. Easy right? I get my new phone in the mail and attempt to transfer the number to my new phone online and... the website is broken. There are some serious programming issues going on with the tracfone website which made it impossible to activate the sim card & phone on my own. Because the website is worthless I contact a live-chat helper through the contact us page and ask them to help me activate the card & transfer my old phone number/minutes. I gave them all the information they needed and they tell me to wait as they "check my account settings". The first attempt at activation completely failed and I waited as they tried again. The second attempt at activation allowed my phone to recognize the sim card, and I could see the transfered number in the phone settings but I couldn't make any calls, send any texts, or access the internet. After a bit of run around the live-chatter decided to gave up and gave me a reference ID for the chat log in case I decide to call later. So now I was completely without a phone because my old phone was deactivated and the new one didn't work. I really needed a phone for work tomorrow and I was desperately looking for a solution to the problem. I connected to my home wifi and downloaded the tracfone app on google play; when I opened it I noticed it detected my sim card and my deactivated phone, but the minutes/text/data was at 0. The live-chatter I spoke to told me my minutes would transfer over but I wondered if that was really the case. I went ahead and bought a $10 aircard through the app just to be sure and low and behold, calls worked, texting worked, 4g LTE internet worked. I finally had a fully functional phone with my old tracfone number. ================ Here's a short version for those who don't want to read all that. 1. Tracfone's website is broken and I had to contact a CSR. 2. CSR was wrong about the minutes/text/data transferring over between phones. 3. I lost all of minutes/text/data I had saved up and had to start over with a new air card. Service days did transfer over though. 4. I now have an affordable fully functional smart phone that I only have to pay less than $12 a month for. CHEAP.

My son wanted to use my old iPhone 5s and for $1 I was able to purchase a SIM card for TracPhone and bring it over. Very easy and he loves it. Couldn't be happier. Trac Phone is an easy way to keep control of your kids cell phone service.

If your time is worth nothing Tracfone is for you!

I have been going round and round with Tracfone since 2/24/16 (now 4/9/16). Tracfone's website claimed my Verizon iPhone 5c was eligible and compatible with BYOP. I paid for the activation sim. Tracfone sent the wrong size. While trying to convince the rep that they sent the wrong sim and send me the right size one the rep insisted I also needed a network activation code which I then purchased. I received the code but still no sim. Another bout with customer no-service and found that the rep with whom I spent over an hour with last time did not bother to record my address. Finally received the correct sim and the phone seemed to work great. My previous minutes transferred fine, all was good. A few days later I found I could not access cellular data. After a week and maybe twenty hours with customer service a rep decided I needed a new sim card. I received the third sim and phone was working great, call, text, data, all working. Only problem was no one could see my minute/ text/ data balance. I could not check on phone or internet and customer service could not check it. I spent two weeks off and on clearing the phone, pushing profiles, checking settings etc. and being told "Wait 24 hrs", "Wait 24 hrs", "Wait 24 hrs", and then "We are escalating to a higher level", "We are escalating to a higher level", "We are escalating to th HIGHEST level". After two weeks a Rep tried manually adding time to my account or so he said and "look at that" I could check my balance but could no longer access cellular data. So now, after wasting in the neighborhood of 60 hours of my time they tell me that maybe the phone isn't compatible with Verizon and Tracfone. It worked with Verizon for the past two years. It worked with Tracfone except no one could check my account balance on the phone or off it. Now they want me to walk away empty handed. I have begged to be put in contact with someone that has authority to make this situation right. I have been given voice mail to a person who never calls back. I have been told I am being transferred to someone in "Corporate" only to be back with a agent that has no authority. I have a balance of over 6000 minutes. I have been lied to (we'll call you tomorrow, we'll connect you with an account executive etc, please hold for my supervisor (and after 20 min of hold the call is dropped)). My last offer for them was for them to send me a comparable phone that they could get to work ($49 on their site). They feel I'm owed nothing. I am not going away quietly.

Alternate way to use ATT network coverage

Most cosumers do not know that Tracfone uses ATT, Verizon, and Sprint networks and is the 5th largest cell phone service provider with sister companies. Since my wife is not a data or talk hog a yearly Tracfone plan works great for her. We just were not happy with their cell phone choices. So, when we could buy a new iPhone 5s forv $149.95 and the activation kit on sale for $1 we upgraded her tracfone using the BYOP SIM kit and were able to stsy on the ATT network as a SIM option. Some US terriories are only supported as roaming by Verizon.

I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7. Inserted correct SIM with no problem. Went to Tracfone web site and verified it would work in my area. Entered personal & phone information. Got to the point where Tracfone wanted me to personally register. Got all check marks and then entered e-mail address. Tracfone did not approve of e-mail address or password. Enter two more times again with no success. Tried another email address with same problem. Could not proceed. Called toll free number with automated questions. Pressed 0 to get a live voice. Automated system acknowledged that I did this but insisted I continue with automated questions and answers. I checked my phone and there was a toll free number listed on my phone screen because apparently the phone recognized that a SIM card had been inserted. To my surprise I got a live voice. However, it was a Verizon operator who listened because I guess it was their number that was stored in the phone. She got the Tracfone number for me which I already had and was very courteous. Because of this experience I decided to stay with Verizon. The next day I went to the Verizon store where they inserted a SIM card in my Samsung Galaxy S7 at no charge and transferred my phone number from my old phone. It was hassle free and took only a few minutes. Yes, it costs more but I felt more confortable dealing with Verizon than the automated system with Tracfone. Sometimes I think it is easier when you can talk to a live operator in the USA.

I love this service for my elderly parents. It works well with the $15 unlimited talk and text. I am having difficulty finding an answer on this particular sim kit - will it work with T-Mobile?My dad's SIM card is faulty we were advised by cm serv to replace it but I can not verify if this one is compatible with T-Mobile network? The price is cheap enough that if it doesn't work I can replace it again however, I don't want to waste my time til I know it's compatible.

Visiting NYC, from Panama, I needed to be able to use my phone(android) nav., et al. The gentleman set me up in minutes. Personal service was as good, as it gets. My wife saw it, experienced it up close and personal. EVERYBODY we came across everywhere we went just shone bright for my wife. Started out perfectly the first morning at Best Buy. Thanks all.

    Assigned SIM to Wrong Phone

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

TL;DR: Verizon-compatible SIM Card working great for Texts/Calls, but no cellular data access. SIM somehow assigned to old phone, despite never using the old phone at any point in the process. Customer Service not particularly helpful. --- So to preface: I've used Tracfone for a number of years. I love the flexibility of their plans and the incredible cell coverage I get. I'm disappointed to have to write this, but here goes... I recently got an unlocked iPhone 11 (iOS 13.6.1) after having exclusively Android phones (most recently the Samsung A10E), and immediately purchased a new BYOP SIM Kit in order to keep my Tracfone service, and simply swap over to the new phone. I activated the Verizon-compatible SIM Card via the online portal, and went through all the steps as prompted. When it asked for the phone information, I gave the appropriate info straight from the phone's settings display. After about 20 minutes, my phone was up and running. Calls and texts were working smoothly, etc. It wasn't until the next morning (while out of the house) that I realized I was getting an error message and could not connect to cellular data. I did all the troubleshooting I could think of when I got back home (plus all I could find online), no dice. I then used the Online Chat CSR (reading/typing is easier for me than processing things over the phone) and she was very courteous, but only gave me bare minimum solutions (all of which I had already tried). She then informed me that the SIM Card had been assigned to an android device (I assume my old phone), and acted as though I couldn't possibly have an iPhone... Or that I was trying to use an old sim card/swapped the new/old cards by accident. She seemed perplexed by my being able to make calls/texts. As I said, I bought the SIM Kit brand new on the same day as getting the phone itself. She then said that she would escalate my request, and that I would receive a call from a CSR at about 20-25 minutes later. No one ever called me, but I got a text about 45 minutes later that only told me my device must be using the latest version of iOS, which it already was. I attempted to call the next day, but the wait times were so long I just got frustrated and gave up. I'm insanely frustrated, and this is the first negative experience I've had with Tracfone. I definitely need cellular data access for both my job, and just... modern life. I attempted to use one of the other SIM cards in the pack, but it told me to call Tracfone after typing in the SIM number. Which I can't do without the SIM card active (I live alone, and am social distancing so I don't have an alternate phone). Welp.
