    Excellent Sequel

One thing about the Trauma Center Series is that you either love it or hate it. That being said, if you liked the previous DS version, or got into it on the Wii you will love this game. One of the best points is that is continues the story and gameplay from the first DS and Wii game so returning fans will not be disappointed. The game play is fast-paced with 5-minute mission times. If you don't know the surgical instruments from the first games or are just getting into it, it takes getting used to, but once you do you start getting faster. The difficulty ramps up reasonably as you play and become more familiar. You can also choose three levels of difficulty but the hardest mode is no joke. It has great replay value in that sense as even after the story is over you can replay all operations on all 3 difficulties to try to get that elusive S rank, which is high enough a challenge to satisfy pros. Some people are turned off due to the lack of realism. Moving tumors and miracle gel that heals all wounds certainly aren't part of modern medical cannon. However, the anime like feels of the game makes it easy to play for people who may be squeamish - nothing looks real enough to upset you. All in all if you liked the first ones this is a sure buy - the gameplay is still top notch. This may not be the place to enter the series however. The game play is fast paced and exciting if you can get into it, you might want to barrow it to make sure you like it if this is your first time. If you like fast paced, anime story style games, or wanted to try operation simulation but were too squeamish this game is for you.

Trauma Center 2 is the second DS game of the series, in which you play as Derek Stiles, a surgeon with a miraculous Healing Touch power. For people who enjoy fast-paced action/puzzle games, this is a great game. The difficulty ramps up well, starting with easy surgeries, gradually getting you used to the system. Eventually you will be able to suture wounds while pumping up vitals at the same time as using a laser to blast viruses. And you will have to become good at multi-tasking to advance. Some of the later stages get quite difficult, with multiple surgeries needing to be done in a particular stage. It is quite frustrating to get all the way to the end of a stage, just to die at the end and have to start over from the very beginning. Note that the difficulty of the game can be adjusted on the fly. By no means is this a realistic game (e.g. healing gel automatically heals small wounds), however, this game may be off-putting to people who are squeamish. It is a surgery game, so there will be blood, bones, etc. It never gets overly gory though. There are also a wide variety of surgeries, everything from broken bones, to a liver transplant, to removing tumors. Overall, this game is quite fun, and a good challenge. It's exciting and very satisfying to save peoples' lives.

Trauma Center an exciting DS expericence

Trauma Center Under the Knife for the DS is an amazing game to add to anyone's video gaming collection. It is an extremely fun game, and extremely addicting as well. However, if you are aiming for a surgery game with blood, gore, and ripping people open, it's not the game for you. Trauma Center is very serious about its game play and storyline; you mess up one thing, you kill the patient. Therefore, transporting you back to the beginning of the current operation. It is breathtaking in its story, however, and the character suck you into their world. They seem ultimately real. I found myself playing the game everyday, 3 days straight, NONSTOP, through dinner, until I won. And when I did, it was pretty rewarding. But it felt terribly sudden... I didn't think that it would be the end. Regardless, Trauma Center is an amazing game, and you will fall in love with it the minute you tap the screen.

I got this game as one of my first DS games. It grabbed my attention because I just announced my intent as a premed student. So far this game is fairly intersting. There is a bit more story dialog then I think is needed and it drags the game for the first round of play, but when you go back through a second time you have the option to go storyless. I look forward to later in the game as it gets harder and harder (the other reviewers...) and over all I am pleased with my purchase.
