    Nice Design - Nothing Groundbreaking

Probably the greatest selling point for these dumbbells is the heavy rubberized coating that minimizes noise (and possibly floor damage) during use. Other than that, they are fairly standard dumbbells that are comfortable in the hands ("ergonomically fit" is a little excessive). My only negative comment is that the pair of 20 lb. dumbbells I received do no weigh exactly the same (one registers at 19.6 lbs. and the other one registers at 20.2 lbs.) - how is that possible. That's not enough of a difference to make them feel unbalanced during use, but it seemed kinda strange to me. Aside from that odd observation, I really love these.

Being stuck at home, these dumbbells are great to have when you can't get to the gym. Good feel and good design.

I feel far more productive sitting in front of the TV during Covid-19 lockdown with these things in my hands. Getting a workout in while vegging in front of the TV is a great use case for these things and the girlfriend is far less nervous about storing them on the stone fireplace thanks to the heavy rubber coating.

Bulging handles maybe too big for some

These dumbbells are decent, but there are a few issues. First, the knurling on the handle is made for a specific grip. If you wanted to do skull crushers or tricep kickbacks you'll only have a partial area where you fingers contact the knurling. You have to hold the db in the center for the best support. Secondly, the bulge. It makes it more of a fat grip and some people with small hands may find it harder to keep a grip on these. Add that with the knurling placement and you can end up slipping and possibly causing damage. You need to test these out in person to make sure they fit your hands. Lastly, the size. These 20lb weights are bigger than my 25's. Might be because of the amount of rubber on the ends or because the handle isn't solid. My other db's are one piece solid iron sets. The obey the laws of gravity, so they give you resistance. Not a whole lot you can really say about weights, lol. Just make sure they fit your grip.

    Dumbbells Not Smart

PROS Weights are ruggedly built. Balance and quality of construction of the weights offers a high end, professional athlete’s aesthetic. CONS To prevent scratching surfaces, rubber coating on the ends of the dumb bells could have been a great solution if not for their extremely troublesome off-gassing. After unboxing, to detox the chemicals inhaled while moving the weights, I required rounds of expensive homeopathic and botanical drainage remedies. The rate of emissions was so high and long lasting that I had to put the weights outside. Over two days the 20 lb units were still off-gassing. The designers need an education about the impact of chemicals on metabolic efficiencies. Though the capacity for detox of pollutants is blood type dependent, TRU GRIT should protect the consumer from chemicals, metals and/or other toxins that bioaccumulate in fatty tissues such as the brain and other organs. A high body burden of environmental toxins turns on genetic markers for a multiplicity of disease. Neither the online advertising nor the packaging affords the buyer any warning. Usually, by law, if a manufacturer is selling a harmful product, the consumer must be duly warned. The brown corrugated box arrived mangled and without any product description. The rubber smells worse than petroleum-based tire rubber. As an informed consumer, I do not want products that shed VOCs (volatile organic compounds) in my home or near the porous skin and respiratory systems of my family. Rising levels of harmful microbes and pollutants in our air, water and food are enough of a challenge without adding another culprit that diminishes health and longevity. TRU GRIT, please have your R+D guys identify a non-toxic alternative coating for what otherwise is a superior build.

    Solid Dumbbell

The Tru Grit dumbbell is solid and meets all expectations. The size of the heads is a bit larger than I would like - but overall these dumbbells work well for most exercises. The packaging was poor, but the dumbbell arrived intact. The rubber coating had an odor for a few days, but it dissipated as expected. I got this on sale, so it was still a bit less than the manufacturer's suggested retail price. But - the standard price is almost double the MSRP. Not a surprise given the steep increase in prices for home workout equipment during COVID . . . but it wouldn't feel good to pay the "full price" now and see on the manufacturer's label on the item that shows a recommended price that was 60% of what you just paid.

Good grid, with chrome handle and heavy duty rubber. Come in pairs which it make it a good value for the money, comparing to other brands that sells only one. I am very happy with this product!
