(i.e., NOT the headphones' fault, dummy user error). if the wire was longer I'd use them on my desktop computer too

For $25 you can set your expectations low and still be disappointed. The headset feels cheap the cable especially. The sound is serviceable but can sound muddy. For a few dollars more you can get a better Turtle Beach, HyperX, or Razer headset.
