I did update the firmware directly out of the box before even pairing with the Xbox. Love the automatic mute when the mic is rotated up and unmute when rotated back down. Battery life seems good so far (think it lasted 15 or so hours but I'll try and track it closer). I just plug it into the console to charge and all good. I'd say darn good wireless headset for $90.

Nice headset for teen gamer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Haven’t heard any complaints about these from the creature that inhabits the room where my son used to be (hopefully in a few years that sweet kid will emerge from the other side as a caring adult) anyways, it broke the last set of headphones and wanted a new pair so these were what I selected. As much as it wears them, they must be comfortable.

This is the second one we bought because of this design flaw.
