Okay let's be clear this was a very risky move by Prince, coming off the success of Purple Rain this was a follow up directorial debut of Prince. It was shot in Black & White and starts off fun but lags toward the end. I enjoyed this movie for two reasons the music and the back and forth banter between Prince and Jerome(from The Time). It is also the big screen debut of Kristin Scott Thomas(The English Patient). If you looking for a movie that is a great romantic drama this is not it, but if you are a Prince fan and are nostalgic for some his greatest music then this is a treat.

Prince directed this black & white love story. Prince plays Christopher Tracy a gigolo on the French Riviera for rich cougar divorcees. He discovers a young girl played by Kristin Scott Thomas about to receive her inheritance. Christopher and Tricky (played by Jerome Benton) try to beat the other in winning her heart. Funny thing happens is Christopher truly falls in love with her. Her father does not like Christopher and opposes their love. How does it end? Purchase it and find out. Yet another must have for any Prince fan!

Prince returns to the silver screen in his second movie. While it does not have the impact of his debut in "Purple Rain", the music in this movie pulls the film along to its conclusion.
The story itself is somewhat weak, but was entertaining nonetheless. The highlight for me, as it would be for the follow-up "Under the Graffiti Bridge" is the music. Taken as one long music video promoting the "Parade" album, this movie is fantastic.
Recommended and essential for any Prince fan out there like myself.

Prince returns in his second musical feature Under the Cherry Moon. In this film Prince stars as a gigolo type singer who pursues a debutante played by Kristin Scott Thomas. The film also features Jerome Benton, and Morris Day and The Time writers of The Bird and Jungle Love. A decent musical/dramatic film. This one also came in purple packaging and was for my girlfriend for Christmas last year.

I searched everywhere for this movie and Best Buy had it New for far less than a used copy costs! I had it shipped standard delivery because the movie was on backorder and I still received it well ahead of the maximum delivery date.
The acting is terrible but the music is awesome! Prince is a truly a legend and Jerome is hilarious as always!

I've been a Prince fan for ages since my youth. This is one of the movies I enjoyed watching after Purple Rain. I owned it on VHS and was excited to have it on DVD. It was offered for a very low price so I had to purchase it. Product is well packaged for a generic release. In case you missed this one after Purple Rain, you must see it!

I had never seen this prior to purchasing it so I didn't know what to expect. Prince and his side-kick, Jerome Benton are pretty funny. The storyline is based on a poor little rich girl scenario. Cute story but don't expect Purple Rain part two.

The great late prince will always be missed. I had been looking for this movie for ages. I already own purple rain, which I thought was his best movie. This movie is also a must have for the price & also if you're a fan of prince. Great movie.

Good movie!!! At times, Prince was a little to silly for my taste. Over the acting, directing and "look" of this film was awesome. Kristen Scott Thomas is beautiful. The "Mountains" music video at the end kicks butt!!!

Although I've only been a Prince fan for a little over a decade, I finally got into his films (Purple Rain is one of my favorite films ever), and I knew he had another film, but I could never seem to get a copy of it. Best Buy has it at a great price, and it's a great film!

A great film with the setting in Europe. it also brought Kristin Scott Thomas on to the scene as well as show us the range that Prince has and will continue to prove throughout his career.

The music is original and a bit of a departure from his normal sound, and the movie is a bit weird being a black and white period piece, but Prince does shine as always. To get the full enjoyment out of this movie, it would definitely help if you were a Prince fan. This movie does not have the broad appeal of Purple Rain. However, this film contains the heartbreaking song Sometimes It Snows in April which is about the death of a friend and, coincidentally, the month that Prince died. Prince forever....

One of the very few artist of our generation who can put together a soundtrack and act in the same movie. Very rare talent. Similar to Whitney Houston with the bodyguard movie and soundtrack. R.I.P to two great music icons and actors as well.
