Customers are saying

Customers frequently mention the R3 DSP Long Range Radar and Laser Detector's impressive range and overall performance, which is comparable to the R7 model. Users appreciate its radar detection capabilities, accuracy, ease of use, and value for the price. While false alarms are a concern, they are not overly frequent, and some recommend disabling the K band.

I've been using it every day. Drive approximately 600 miles a day. Yes very sensitive, but not sure if it works in Ohio. Main gripe I have is, I cannot mount it on the window nor the visor. So I used the two puny pieces of velcro they give you. The unit gets warm melts the glue the heavy springy power cord hooks on the left of the unit and it pulls the unit left. So I'm constantly repositioning it. Need a big piece of velcro for the dash so I can hold onto it so I can get it off. And get rid of the heavy springy power cord and give me a wire power cord. So far I trust the Waze app way more than the unit. Not sure if I like it or trust it yet. I might try the escort unit, or I might just stay with the Waze app.

    Great detector amazing range.

I have had this radar detector for a few weeks now, and I love it. I have read a lot of reviews and watched numerous videos (Vortex Radar on YouTube) and this has some of the best reviews beating out some other higher priced detectors. This has some great BSM (Blind Spot Monitoring) Filtering the only cars that seem to give false alerts are Accura/Honda and GM cars. You just have to be aware when driving. The GPS features are worth the extra $100 over the R1. They help to keep the detector more quiet when driving around town With the current firmware 1.30 and taking some time to learn more about radar you can have an amazing setup. For the next model I would love for Uniden to include arrows but its not need as long as you pay attention to the alerts the detector is giving you. Do yourself a favor and search this detector on YouTube and you'll see.

Great false filtering... Range is ok.

I've had the R3 for almost 2 months now. I can say it's quiet. So quiet, I sometimes thing it's not working. As for range, I haven't seen any of these mile + detections I saw in the youtube videos. My best has been about a 1/2 mile, which I've seen other high cost detectors do. Still because the false filtering is so good, when it goes off, I'm pretty sure that's a cop around. I don't always see them but I know they're around... maybe on a side street or behind me... Would I recommend this detector, sure I would.. Do I think it's worth $400? That I'm not sure of, but my feeling is most detectors are over priced for what you get. If this detectors had arrows, at $400, I'd feel pretty good about it. But without the arrows, I feel it should sell for under $300.

The Uniden R3 detects rader. Every bodies rader.

I purchased the Uniden R3 because the advertising led me to believe that the new circuitry design would eliminate false signals coming from newer cars with crash avoidance systems. The R3 does not eliminate these false warnings. I called Uniden thinking that I must be in the wrong mode or set-up. I was told that I was not in the wrong mode. The R3 only eliminates false warnings that you pass every day and it will remember them. If you want a detector that will detect a signal ( any signal ) from a mile or more away this is the detector for you but if you want one that will also eliminate the non speed trap signals the R3 is worthless and Uniden's attitude is Sorry

    Hidden Costs.....

    Posted .

The possible "hidden cost". The fact that is is a Microsoft Windows only device if you want to keep the firm ware up to date. If you have a Mac, you must invest in Parallels for Mac at a cost of $70 and Windows 10 for a cost of $120. Then you must have some knowledge of how to Partition your Mac and install the software. If you are someone technical, your are ok, maybe. I have Parallels and Windows 10. I spent 2 to 3 hours and 3 calls to Uniden and still could not, with their help, get the new firmware installed. No update, bad device...... It goes back to BB today. I will accept the responsibility of failing to get the firmware installed, but there is still the miss information on Uniden's part about this being a Microsoft Windows only device.......... It doesn't even tell you that you need to purchase a USB cable not included.

    worthless device

I just bought this and took a trip from New Orleans to Raleigh and back. After passing approximately 25-30 cops, some clearly set up with radar, and several signs where it shows your speed, this radar detector detected exactly...ZERO. Not one. It was good at picking up automatic door openers at businesses though.
