    Better than you think!

I had the htc desire 816 for virgin mobile. Same camera: 13mp, 5mp. Same screen size: 5.5 The speaker isn't that bad compared to what other reviewers say. Although the speaker is on the back of the one, compared to to the front like my old htc. My old htc phone had dual boom speakers or whatever. Sound was better on my htc phone. There is no notification light. I've had this phone for almost a week now. And it has not bothered me as much as I anticipated. The bottom buttons do not light up like high end Samsung phones, but this being my first Samsung phone, I'm not bothered by it at all. Has a front continuous light for selfies. Marhsmellow 6.0 is really nice. BUT. You cannot move your app to SD card. It's not just the phones fault. It's marshmallow 6.0. High phones have the setting where you can make it optional. On this phone and others on marshmallow, you have to have a brand new clean SD card, and make it "internal storage". So it's basically making your SD Card a part of your internal storage. You options are either internal or portable. Portable won't allow you to make it internal, so you can't move your apps to it, internal does. So get at least a 32gb or 64gb SD card to make it worth making your internal SD card storage. The touch response is amazing compared to my htc phone. The super amoled screen is very nice compared to my old lcd screen. Overall, it's amazing phone.

Bought this phone because i wanted a Samsung, and glad i did. Huge screen . Fast phone, can handle multiple apps opened at once, and the best battery life of any phone ive had. No indocator light is a bummer, but love this phone.

    Similar to S3

Arrived much faster than estimated and package is traceable through USP. Easy activation for an already existing Virgin number and plan (5 minutes, done). PHONE: Used this phone to replace my S3. It's pretty much the same but slightly bigger and a little more options I guess. No notification light, doesn't bother me. Battery life disappointing, S3 was better. With medium use (no GPS, Sync, PoGo, Youtube) it lasts about a day. S3 was better in the beginning. Comes delivered with slick white charger and earphones. VIRGIN Virgin mobile: extremely annoying apps and themes are forcefully installed upon activation, most cannot be removed. Service is mediocre at best, even in an urban area. "Unlimited" plans are not unlimited. After questionable monitoring of data usage, data speeds get knocked down to barely usable levels. This never used to be like this at Virgin. Service decreases over time, prices increase.

    Great phone; holds charge

I purchased this phone yesterday and absolutely love it! I charged it to 100% last night and it's holding a charge MUCH better than my old phone (Samsung Galaxy S3 - it is common knowledge that the batteries in the S3 are not good). I have barely used this phone and it's holding steady at 99% with power saving mode on and the bloatware/background programs turned off. It runs much faster than my previous phone. I like the size and it is very lightweight (no case on it yet, so that will probably bulk it up). The activation process was a breeze, too. I am very happy. It's not a flashy phone like the S-series, but it serves my use well.

In my opinion, anyways. The only thing I really look for in a phone are specs, camera, texting, and playing games. All are quite well for the price, and would be much rather more price-friendly than buying the S7 (cause 'ya know, drastic price difference). If you got the money, fine. I personally would prefer a nice priced phone with good specs.

    Not What i expected

I did go to youtube and see reviews on this phone before buying but its not what i expected although it is a huge screen its not that much HD ; it doesnt have an LED Notification Light which im used to on androids ; the camera well the front facing camera yea it has a flash And thats cool but the pictures looks pixalated for it to be 5mp during daylight it will show better quality but it automatically comes with a makeup option and by that i mean it has a smooth face effect and that just killed it for me because its just weird what if i wanna show my flaws ? And it looks blurry while taking the picture but when you review it not as much anyways People that photo shop might like that about the front face camera. also it doesn't have much effects options and auto focus is not that great you cant manually auto focus it by pressing on the screen because it takes the picture not like other androids or iphones ; rear camera how ever is great 13 megapixels 1080hd recording it does justice its just the front camera what kinda messed it up for me and thats why after a day i decided to return this and get my 246.06$ back i was upgrading from a htc desire 816 which is also 5.5 and a 13 megapixel camera and i didnt see much difference the htc also has a 5mp front facing camera and well that shows how i naturally am if i wanna do effects to my face i have the option to not like the j7 that doesnt give you an option. I for sure thought this phone was a keeper but it dissapointed me :( also it is huge but its so light which is a plus but well i give it a 6 out of 10 and a 3.5 stars. All because of the front facing camera and the fact it dont have an LED notification light which to me is important because if i have my phone on silent i wont know if i have missed calls or texts or i guess im used to the green flashing light letting me know i need to check my phone lol ;almost forgot the new 6.0 version comes with a upgraded emoji keyboard they look cute and bubbly lol only thing it doesnt have are the flags but maybe thats just for iphone idk i hope my review helps.

My s3 has been playing up for a while so i was in need of a replacement, i didnt fancy paying $400 for a s5 so when this went on sale for less than $200 i went for it. Seems like all Samsung phones & tablets are called galaxy nowadays but moving from a s3 I was disappointed to find this has no charging light and no auto screen brightness, i would have thought these are standard features seeing as this is touted as a mid range phone but i guess thats where the cost cutting went. Upgrading from a s3 performance wise its pretty snappy but then any new phone would be an improvement, its only my 2nd day of use but so far i cant really find fault with it apart from those niggles i mentioned. This is my 3rd Samsung phone on vmob each is an upgrade but this one feels like a small step rather than a leap.

This smartphone is a medium priced smart phone with an excellent screen, excellent battery life (between recharges), and good sound quality. It was very easy to set up and activate with Virgin (I transferred my Virgin number from another Virgin phone to this one).

For the price it's a great phone. The only way to top this phones camera and specs would be to buy a $500- $700 phone. The J7 was a terrific deal and Virgin Mobile has awesome phone service.

This is not your S7. It does not multitask very well and has no front light indicator to let you know you have messages or an appt.. The cameras are great. Everything else is very similar to the S series. Great buy for the price.

Have had this phone for 4 months. It's reliable. Compared to the previous two phones I've owned, this phone is outstanding. Camera is good, was able to have very large canvas prints made from recent travel pics. The image's were sharp when canvassed.

My previous phone didn't have enough memory, so I upgraded, and I'm pretty happy. Samsung is generally good. The speaker is inferior (particularly compared to many HTC front, stereo speakers) but overall a very good phone.

The phone is acceptable for making fundamental calls and texts. I do miss having a notification light on the phone. While I like viewing the contact's information, it takes too many steps to dial the chosen number. Most disappointing is immediately after the return window has closed, the phone has started to power off and restart itself. This can occur several times to include while a call is in progress. Samsung's warranty covers parts and labor. If the phone is sent in for repairs, I must contact my carrier for a temporary device. Bummer!!!!!!

I had a Galaxy SIII for 3 years when the charging port wouldn't hold onto a charger any longer. At the time Virgin Mobile only had this J7 and the $650 S7 that I can't justify purchasing. The screen size and good photos are the best parts of this phone as well as, for now, its ability to hold a charge. The touchscreen is not as responsive as the SIII and it started overheating out of the box. I am a leftie and liked being able to swipe up or to the left on my SIII and am frustrated that I can only swipe to the right on the J7. Along with that, my app screens could rotate in entire circles so it's a pain to have to swipe back and forth in a linear fashion. I miss swiping my hand across the screen to screenshot but that's minor. I realize most of my complaints are likely Marshmallow complaints but the poor touchscreen responsiveness is what drove me to come here to write this review. I purchased direct from VMo and have been using it since May 12, 2016. I'd have returned it within my 7 day window if there were any other VMo phones to choose from because having to press harder than normal or press repeatedly to complete my desired function is a pain (again, my budget didn't allow the S7 so I had no choice but this phone). My son now needs to replace his phone and we feel stuck as he's played with my J7 and is unimpressed as well. Definitely disappointed and may be my last Samsung now.

Good price, get the BestBuy insurance!

Purchased two of these, one phone repeatedly overheated. Brought in 2x during 15 day store warranty, store reluctantly exchanged for replacement after several trips for reboot. After two mo. second phone would not load Google Play, apps frozen. Brought to store for repair, store Samsung tech was excellent but recommended return to vendor since phone was so new and had many issues. Returned to vendor who had it for two weeks, never sent updates to track, kept saying it was in repair when it was actually shipped back to me. Sent it back with tempered glass screen protector (which I had installed) missing. Refused to replace it citing it was an "accessory" and removed during repair. After arguing with online customer support 1 hr they referred me to voice support, who reiterated SOP. Believe me, the Bestbuy insurance would have resolved all of these issues, lesson learned.

Good phone if you don't want LED indicator notify

    Posted .

I bought this product back in June from BestBuy. I would suggest not to buy the Samsung Galaxy J7 if you want LED notifications, I have been going around and around with Samsung for months due to the LED not working. This manual states the LED indicator is suppose to work on the phone. Page 5 http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201606/20160628020328299/VGN_PPD_SM-J700P_Galaxy-J7_EN_UM_MM_6.0_FINAL_WAC.pdf However technicians state this is not enabled on these phones. This is false advertisement and very disappointing that I use this option as a way of notifications and can't. This is not a way to conduct business. I have talked to corporate relations at Samsung and they state there is nothing that can be done, no refunds, no credits, no exchange of phones because it wasn’t purchased directly through them. Samsung employees are all trained in canned responses. This is absolutely ridiculous. If you are advertising a function that is suppose to work and it doesn’t all the products should be shipped back or an exchanged policy implemented. I wish BestBuy could do something but they are stating they can't because the return policy is past the time. Its been a very frustrating experience to know after 3 months this feature wasn't enabled on these devices.

Great phone with problems after a month

The j7 was a beautiful phone. I like how I can customize it but after a month problems started to arise. My text messages started suddenly not sending, the camera wouldn't open, but other than that its a pretty good phone. Ive received two kinds of J7's after getting replacements but it's still the same problems. I don't recommend this phone at all.

Phone is like any other phone, but the camera errors often and you have to restart the phone to get it to work. For the price it's not horrible.
