Best Value bar none
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start by saying I researched the 65-75 “display size extensively before finally going with the Vizio. The technical specifications you get for 2 Grand is unmatched by any other manufacture. This non receiver display really stacks up well against the competition. The other big players are asking $3500.00 for virtually the same thing. Now here’s the kicker and main difference. This Display used an android tablet as a remote, Vizio also includes is a small basic remote that does the minor stuff like changing volume, HDMI inputs & picture modes. You will love or hate this concept. I found I didn’t like the tablet at first, but then I starting loving it. You can use google cast from the tablet to launch Netflix, Hulu, and other google cast ready applications, and go back to the tablet and shop on eBay. The only drawback is you can only cast google cast compliant apps. This means you still need Amazon Fire TV for Amazon Prime movies and Kodi. Kodi will run fine on the tablet but you can’t cast it to the TV. The Picture is amazing, 4K on Netflix and Amazon is awesome. I can’t wait for more content. Upscaling of non 4K works really well too. I was shocked at how good non 4K stuff looked. Colors are bright and blacks are black. No complaints about the picture whatsoever. I looked at LG’s OLED TV’s and I must say the picture is better, however the cost is still too high at 70” and above. I’ll wait two or three years and then go to that technology. Summary the good: 70” 4K Ultra HD, HRD and Dolby Vision Local Dimming 64 zones UHD Upscaling Backlighting Full Array LED Built in Wi-Fi, and wired internet port 5 HDMI, (1) 2.0 (4) 1.4 all support 4K, but only 1 is high speed. DTS Sound Price (Excellent) Customer service has been great about answering my endless questions Summary the ?’s Love or hate the Tablet Only (1) HDMI (2.0)

Picture and setup
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm wanting to like it but not impressed. Had to have Geek Squad to come out and connect the tablet that came with the tv. I couldn't get it to work. I was charged $99.99 for them to come out to get it working. He said it needed to be upgraded. Still can't get my surround sound to work on the tv. The picture just isn't that sharp. Debating on whether I should return it. I would recommend it I can clear the picture up

Posted .We appreciate you taking the time to provide this feedback for the SmartCast™ E70u-D3.
There are many picture adjustments that can be made in the Menu of the TV to affect this. We recommend adjusting these to best fit your personal preference.

Great TV, Ditch the Tablet Remote
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this TV from BestBuy online. Pretty easy process. They delivered it inside of a week and on the date and time agreed upon. TV Location Bought the TV for my basement home theater, so there is no direct sunlight to compete with the screen quality or brightness. TV Setup Basic set up was simple. The initial setup menu when you turn the TV on is very easy to follow: Pair the remote with the TV, pair the remote to your wireless network, you are all set. Really, it’s that simple. Advanced setup, not so simple. Not terrible, just unnecessarily cumbersome due to the use of the tablet. This is the point where VIZIO will say, “We understand that it will take some time for everyone to embrace this new technology,” but seriously, I disagree, buttons on a remote would have cut the calibration time in half for me or anyone that is doing an advanced calibration of the TV (and at the $2k price point, I would expect some moderate to advanced users). Attaching sources Some were disappointed that all the HDMI ports are not set up for full 4k and HDR. This wasn’t a big deal to me. I’m using a single source for everything: An XboX-1-S. If you need 3 or 4 HDR sources, buy the next model up, it’s not that much more expensive. Picture Quality Very pleased with the picture. 1080P and 4k content look great. Personally, I can’t see much of a difference between them except in still scenes where the 4k just looks amazing, but if there is any action on the screen, it’s hard to see much difference. Local dimming is great, some are complaining about bleed and halo, it’s really not very bad, in fact, the only time I notice it, is on a bright white background with bold black text, which usually only occurs in advertisements, so who really cares. Black backgrounds look awesome, and bright white text or objects don’t create any visible halo or light bleed that I’ve noticed. Screen uniformity very good, but not perfect. On a bright white screen, you can see some light inconsistency near the corners and around the edges. I’m guessing this is going to vary from panel to panel, so everyone’s TV would show this differently, but I will say, I’ve never noticed it when watching content, I only notice it on a pure blank white screen, so again, not an issue (no TV is perfect). HDR One of my main reasons for choosing this TV over others in this price range was for HRD content, and I would love to tell you how it looks on the TV, but for whatever reason (XboX is blaming VIZIO—VIZIO is blaming XboX), the TV and the XboX-1-S can’t produce or maintain an HDR connection. This is really disappointing, and I wish the two companies would speak to each other about how to fix it, because it’s making them both look really bad at the moment. Speakers The speakers stink, but who cares. If you are dropping $2k on a TV, I would hope you are using an external sound system, or at the minimum as sound bar and sub. If not, get your head checked. The @#$! Tablet Let’s be honest on this one (VIZIO will not be, but I will). The tablet is a gimmick. Wow, a free tablet!!! Once the free-loot excitement wears off, it’s an absolute pain in the @$$. Here’s why VIZIO loves it: It means the TV can be completely dumb (which I’m fine with). This TV is a high quality display panel with a WiFi connection, nothing else, and that’s cool. Nobody really needs a smart TV because every single source device you are going to plug into it will be able to produce smart content, and likely do it better than the TV ever could. By offloading all the “Smart TV” features to an included tablet, VIZIO can still market this as a Smart TV, which helps them sell it to dumb consumers that have not really thought through the fact that they already have the smart content on their: blu-ray, SmartPhone, ChromeCast, AppleTV, CableBox, TiVo, etc. Here’s why I hate it: I sit down to watch TV. I power on the tablet…wait for it to boot up…It’s on, I go to the TV control app, and it opens quickly, then I click on the TV power on icon on the tablet…I wait for the TV to boot up. Now I want to channel surf I change the channel and stop to watch for a minute. The screen on the tablet times out. Now I want to see what else is on, I have to locate the on button on the tablet to reactivate it, then I can change channels, or access the DVR. This got old reeeeeeeal fast. Okay, how about for casting content from the tablet to the TV, that’s cool, right? In theory, yes. In practice, it’s a big disappointment. Same issues as those above if you want to pause, rewind etc. You have to reactivate the tablet to do it. But let’s talk about the bigger issue on a nice 70in 4K TV: Image quality. It looks bad, or at best, inconsistent. VIZIO’s answer to this is to blame your home network or ISP speed. I have google fiber, and one of the fastest AC routers on the market…my network is not the problem. The problem is a slow tablet that has to stream wireless content from my network to the tablet, then back to the network and out to the TV. This creates lag, and stream quality issues. Again, VIZIO can claim that it’s an issue with my network configuration, but in reality, I can stream the same content through the same providers on my same home network through the XboX directly to the TV and it looks fantastic and maintains a consistent 4K stream. The tablet now sits on a shelf collecting dust, and I have purchased a cheap universal remote that has cutting edge technology that blows the tablet out of the water: Buttons that are always available to simply click the TV on, change channels, adjust volume, and doesn’t need to be charged daily. I’m telling you, the technology is amazing!!! Seriously Vizio, ditch the tablet, or if you are so married to it that you can’t admit that it was a mistake, add a full function remote to the TV instead of the very limited function one that you threw in as an afterthought. Do I recommend this TV: Yes. If you are prepared to toss aside the tablet, and measure the TV on its own merits, it’s excellent and I would recommend it to everyone. It’s not perfect, but at the $2k price point, it’s the best TV I’ve ever seen.
