I also didn't want to hassle with adjusting an answering mechanism, since I was going to use my triple play from Verizon to handle voice mail etc. I have turned off the answering portion of the phone. Everything is working as expected, and the black/red combo adds some style. All in all, I'm pleased that I bought it.
