Average phone; marketing claim not met

Despite the claim of "message time and date stamp," it does not actually tell you the DATE of messages at playback. Vtech support confirms that none of their phones actually play back the date of a message, only the day of the week. For example, the message playback will say it was received "Friday," not "Friday, December 8." Clearly a case of false marketing. The date stamp is used, however, on the "caller ID log," a list of the last 30 calls you received. But since the phone also does not tell you the phone number of the recorded message, there's no way to relate the message to the ID log even if you were willing to go thru all that... Also, there's a real tendency to press the Flash/Talk or Off/Cancel buttons with your cheekbone while talking, kicking you out of the conversation and possibly disconnecting your call. Sound-quality and cordless-range have been OK in our house.

I understand in a world of cell phones now but we do still enjoy having a clear and "no delay" conversation with others. We have been using Vtech phone now for about 12 yrs and this is our 2nd phone, meaning the first one last 12 years and that is putting up with teenagers, drops, spills, and makeup. The other vtech needed a replacement battery somewhere in there but was a great phone. This product is very simple and has clear directions. The receiver has a mute feature as does the handest which is nice. Feel and buttons are sturdy. Mic and speaker do well and we don't use the answering machine. Great cheap by for a back up to the cell phone and would highly recommend if you still use a land line.

I purchased this to replace my aging (and malfunctioning) Cordless phone/Answering machine. I didn't need anything "fancy", as I just needed a basic Cordless Phone/Answering Machine for a plain single phone line. The price is right on this unit (got it on sale as well) and it works really well and is very well designed. It's very comfortable to use, has lots of nice features and the "digital" answering machine function is nice (my old answering machine needed mini-cassette tapes...ugh). This has a nice "small footprint" so it doesn't take up a lot of space and it works very well. Very happy with the overall performance of this unit!

The handset's "slimness" can be an issue

The phone itself is so slim and sleek that it's hard to hold onto once lifted off the base. I've dropped it numerous times upon answering the phone. In addition, it can be difficult to determine whether you've successfully answered a call because a successful activation of the "talk" button - which is flat and flush with the surface/body of the handset - isn't always apparent. Again this is partly due to the phone being uber slim. I've pressed the talk button, didn't hear anything and thought I didn't press it firm enough, pressed it again, only to realize I disconnected the caller.

Easy to use for ordinary functions, but without instructions, it is impossible to use the secondary functions. It has call blocking, which is highly desirable, but there are no instructions--in the instruction sheet or through the phone--on how to use it. We have yet to figure it out. The other thing we don't like is that, while listed as a system that hand sets can be added to, it has a limit of 5 total handsets. We needed 6, so we are having to double-up with one handset in 2 rooms. It means carrying a handset with us instead of having the convenience of one in every room.

I have to say that I have been pleasantly surprised by this phone. I needed a simple phone for my Mom to operate. These days there aren't many simple phone available. This phone was the simplest in the best buy collection at the store. The keys seemed to be sturdy. with good visibility and also have back-light. Set up was pretty easy and all volume control worked fine. The sound quality is good too. Finally, it looks nice aesthetically. (Just a note: I have only used this as a single phone with no extension base!)

      Very nice inexpensive cordless phone

My old Panasonic phone/fax/answering machine was starting to fail, so I went to Best Buy for a replacement. This inexpensive phone is cordless and has an easy-to-use answering machine. The Cat 5 Ethernet cables with RJ11 ends that Cox gave me for my previous phone worked perfectly. I've had this phone for a month or two now, and it has been very nice. The answering machine's memory is a bit limited--I think it's worth 15 minutes' recording--but that's not a serious problem.

Who knew things like this still exist, but there it is. If you must have a (gag) land line phone in your home to take all those outlawed spam calls, this is the one. It beeps, it sweeps, it cleans, it takes you back to the 90's when the lack of a curly phone cord was technological wonderland and no overheating like the tropical phish. Get one now, because that thing in your pocket is making phone systems like this one extinct. And no, it isn't a frog in you pocket.
