Only one con: it only has 2 screw holes for mounting. The one in the middle is missing, making it impossible to easily mount it in my pc case. Every other 3.5 form factor HDD I've bought over the last 30 years has had 3 mounting holes. This drive is missing the middle hole. Even the picture of the product shows 3 holes. So I had to "rig" a mount for my case which needs that middle hole.
Other than that it's the usual, best quality, longest warranty you can get for a regular HDD.

I needed to upgrade from a 2tb hard drive. This is exactly what I was looking for. It has good performance at a reasonable cost. I considered an 8tb SSD, but the cost was too much for what I am using it for. I am not sure about reliability, but WD has good customer service from past experiences. I recommed it!

Fastest non-for-gaming HDD "gaming" drive

I'm a huge fan of WD products and HDDs going back to their Raptor days, you know, the 10K RPM Prosumer drives with a polymer window that weren't quite as crazy as SCSI 15K Cheetahs but faster than the run of the mill 5400-7200RPM disk drives out there. I've tended to pay the premium for their Black lineup as the fastest HDDs...but once SSDs became mainstream all that reason to pay a premium for a mechanical HDD went out the window.
For that reason, I was tempted to take off a star or two for WD trying to market this as a "Gaming" drive because in reality, no one on PC is gaming off a mechanical HDD nowadays. With the next-gen consoles changing the way game developers load and stream assets from storage, I'm positive a mechanical HDD as your primary storage medium will continue to become a huge liability.
Where a large 10TB WD Black mechanical HDD does come in handy is as a short-term archive for game storage that prevents you from having to constantly delete and re-download games as your PC or console SSDs fill up. This drive needs direct attachment to your PC and currently, shuttling games back and forth from a mechanical HDD is a manual process. But on consoles, they have a very distinct hierarchy and help you manage and move games between faster local SSD storage and slower archive HDD storage. Hopefully the PC moves to this model as it will be needed especially as Microsoft moves closer to an XBox Series X gaming model.
As for the drive itself, here's the major highlights I noted:
+Its extremely fast for a spinnign platter drive. Like 50Mb/s faster than some NAS 16TB drives I have from competitor OceanDoor and another 20Mb/s faster than some TB WD White Label NAS drives I pulled from some EasyStore enclosures and put in my NAS. Its pulling the advertised 268/Mbs speeds for seq read/write which is extremely impressive, roughly half of what you will see on SATA6 SSDs.
+Its extremely quiet. MUCH more quiet than that same OceanDoor competitor drive that sounds like codebreakers are living in my office 24/7. WD did a nice job when they acquired Hitachi's high capacity drive division and gaining that acoustic edge.
+The extra storage and archival capabilities are going to be wonderful for anyone on data caps or slow internet connections that play a lot of different games. You don't have to download that game again when your friend wants to Co-Op and hit your data limit, or if you're on slow internet, you can just move it off your main SSD game drive, then move it back when you want.
+Not SMR as far as I've researched. This is more of an issue for long-term data integrity.
Cons As I mentioned:
- The label doesn't look anything close to the one on the display art. None of that cool rugged full label, closer to just the standard white label.
-You're not going to want to run your games off this drive unless you don't know what an SSD is. Yes its great if you want to manually copy and move games to this drive and then delete them off your SSD, but that's a pretty tedious affair. Hopefully Microsoft does this seamlessly at the OS level in the future, they already do this on their consoles.
-Its an internal PC hard drive, an external enclosure would've been a lot more useful. Also for my PC I had a heckuva time getting the drive recognized. Ultimately I had to plug and unplug the power while the PC was on before it showed up in diskmgmt.
Definitely recommend this drive if you want the fastest possible spinning platter drives with massive amounts of storage. However, I would personally look at WD Red or similar archiving/NAS drives to save some money since I don't really believe this is a viable "gaming" drive that you would run games off of. As next-gen games continue to evolve I think this will continue to become even more evident, but as an archival feature and ability to not have to re-download large 50-100GB games I think this drive does have a place. Especially because it is so quiet for a spinning disk drive!!!

The WD BLACK Gaming 10TB Internal SATA Hard Drive gives a great balance of speed and storage capacity for gaming on your desktop. It's a 7200 rpm drive that is built on CMR (Conventional Magnetic Recording) technology with 256MB of on drive cache. Installing the drive was a breeze and it was recognized in the windows disk utility and it just required a format to get up and running. After the format there was a little over 9TB of space to work with and the drive was very quiet during operation. The drive met the specs that were advertised and the Western Digital software (available on their website) was easy to use. I'm pleased with the amount of space I have now to install almost all of my gaming library and I would definitely recommend the drive to anyone that wants to expand their computer storage with something quick and reliable.

WD 10 TB Black gaming drive
The WD 10TB drive is a good choice for Gamers looking for performance plus lots of storage.
The drive is quick at 7200 RPM, not a ton of driver chatter, (only when booting and shutdown did a notice chatter but it was much quieter than another slave drive I use).
After installing/initializing and formatting I ran a few freeware bench mark tests on it and was amazed at the speeds that came back in the results. (See attachments) they were above and beyond what WD advertises. It’s like getting more for your money!!
The read/Write speed advertised was a max of 263mb/s according to their data sheet. But as you can see from test results it was more. (277/273 MB/s to be exact).
This along with a 5 year warranty make this a perfect drive for the gamer or just about anyone.
I installed the Latest C.O.D and Battlefield and ran the games nonstop for over an hour playing the single player campaigns. I did not have one issue, I didn’t notice any drive chatter either.
I then loaded my 8TB Gaming image and ran it through its course again and again, same results. No issues. (drive temps were a little high but in nominal range after the 8TB image finished transfer but I had that thing working very hard for hours DLing the image)
I find that this drive is very dependable in all areas, I intend to put it through the paces daily. I would recommend this to friends and family.

So I fall into the target market for this hard drive as I'm constantly upgrading my main drive with a larger SSD, but at some point you end up just deleting certain games or moving them to your slower storage drive. With the 10TB Black you manage to not only achieve plenty of speed for games that aren't hyper needy in regards to read/write speed, but you still don't feel like you're throttling them by dropping them on the old 5400 rpm (in my case 5TB) drive that you bought to hold all your pictures. Putting games on there just feels like you're resigning them to the dust bin as you generally want to flip them back to the SSD for performance purposes before you play them again. Enter the WD Black Gaming, now my games like Black Desert Mobile and Genshin Impact all get relegated to it. That coupled with all of my media makes this the perfect drive to maintain some level of performance and pure sheer massive storage.
File transfers were snappy, I tested using about 20 GB of pictures from the SSD and was pleasantly surprised with how fast it completed. Looking at the speed ratings, this should suffice for Adobe video editing and such up to 1080p resolutions without much impact. Pictures attached showing achieving rated speeds and available space once formatted inside of a Windows system.

If you are looking to add a large amount of storage this will fit the bill. Its not exactly cheap but when you consider it’s a WD Black with 7200 spin rate, 256MB cache with a 5-year warranty – it is worth a look. Not sure why it is marketed as a “gaming” drive as I don’t see anything in the specs or in use that would really enhance your gaming experience. It’s a SATA III hard drive – pure and simple.
Before being able to use/see drive in Windows I had to initialize using disk management and assign dive letter, etc.
This WD Black has a stated maximum read/write speed of 263 MB/s. In my self-built desktop using SATA III connection, I checked disk speed using latest DiskMark64. I experienced read speeds averaging 280 and write averaging 270 – so a tad better than advertised (see attachments).
I also have a Dell G7 7700 gaming laptop with a USB 3.0 2 bay HDD SATA docking station connected using USB 3.2 port. So, I tried it in the dock. Surprisingly, I experienced basically same speeds as in my desktop – read averaging 280 and write averaging 270 (see attachments). So, for the relatively small cost of a docking station, you may be able to add this drive to your laptop with not much, if any, slowing.
For another comparison this drives read/write speeds were about 40% higher than my current SATA 3.5 inch hard drives.
Packaging was a disaster. Drive arrived in a much to large box that was half opened from being a tad crushed during shipment. Drive was in just a sleeve with loose bubble wrap. Drive doesn’t seem to be affected but time will tell.
Drive seems to run hot, running consistently over 50C. I moved drive to insure I had a fan blowing directly on it in the desktop and that brought down temps to 30C range. Same for the docking station – I put a portable fan blowing on it and temps came down to under 40C. Worried temps could take its toll on the drive long term.
Also drive “clicks” sometimes – I assume its something to do with the heads? Very distracting but doesn’t do it all the time.
Gaming takes storage as does pictures/videos and this drive will give you some breathing room for anything you want to store. Overall a nice drive, with 5-year warranty giving peace of mind, I would recommend.

The WD Black gaming hard drive feels and acts pretty similar to your standard hard drives that most of us are used to. What seems to set this unit apart in my opinion is its storage space and read/write speed. With SSDs housing more storage and faster speeds it almost feels like hard drives are for those of us who don't want to pay the higher prices that SSDs usually come in at, especially in this market right now.
Set up is just as you have seen in every other hard drive. One sata to the MB and the other to your PSU. This does feature a sata 6 to take full advantage of what WD is putting down. Noise of the hard drive was very low and in all reality couldn't be picked up over the performance settings of my fans. With this being geared towards gaming i decided to use it exactly for that. This served as a storage unit for all my Steam games and saved data. I was getting average read/write speeds of about 90 - 130 mb/s and at times would hit 140. Quick load times over my standard HD such as my Seagate. Obviously not as fast as my SSD however you need to compare apples to apples. Overall really there are only a few things i expect from my HDs. Is it loud? No, its rather quite. Does it actually have decent speed for a HD? Yes, in fact much more so over my previous HD. The bigger question that always troubles me is what is its longevity? After all you do have moving parts and moving parts are always susceptible to failure. In all reality time is going to be the real test for this category however after logging 30 hours of run time in a 1 week time span everything is still running smooth, as you or me would both hope. WD brings piece of mind in the fact that most of their products have been proven through the test of time so you can expect reliability. Over all there really is not much more when it comes to hard drives. As long as it works and your getting decent speeds, which you are with the black series, then the only thing left to do is get to the store and pick one up. This is a good buy compared to a standard HD.
Pros:
-Very quite
-Lots of storage
-One of the faster HDs out there
Cons:
-none really

This is a good as it gets in terms of HDD. Large capacity and fairly quick for a HDD. Obviously, the speeds do not come even a little bit close to that of an SSD, but they are pretty quick for a HDD. I like having lots of storage, so the 10TB works well for my needs. Though, I do wish they had a higher capacity drive, maybe 16TB.
I do not storage a lot of games on this drive, despite the fact that this drive is for "gamers". I use it to store my media files, and in that regard it is perfect. Unfortunately, I can't comment on game load times, etc, because I don't really need it for games.
I did, however, need a drive for my media files and tons of random files that don't have a home. This fits that purpose perfectly. I can't hear it over my computer, so I am assuming it is pretty quiet. I didn't think noise was important until I put a Toshiba drive in my computer some time ago and it was loud.
Don't forget to register this with WD to get the 5 year warranty. It is easy to register and ensures you'll be covered if something happens.

The drive has a much-needed amount of storage space and seems fast enough for my purposes. I purchased two of these and have them mirrored. Seem to be good drives so far, though note that they are called 10 TB drives - - After setting up, Windows 11 reports the drive actually has only about 9 TB (9.09 TB) - Almost a terabyte lower. In my case it's OK. 9 TB is plenty for me.

I've been a WD fan for many years and in my latest build I decided to go with WD_Black SSD's and HDD's. So far this drive is shaping up to be a winner just like all my previous WD SSD's. I may have to go for another 10TB drive to bring my total system capacity up to 24TB. I have a large Steam library, lots of raw photos, and a lot of 6K video from drones and cameras. I like to keep copies on my NAS as well as my PC. If you're looking for a great storage drive, you'll love this one! My only complaint is that the drive isn't as pictured with the large black WD_Black sticker.
