Customers often highlight the BLACK SN850X 4TB Internal SSD PCIe Gen 4 x4 NVMe's impressive storage capacity and excellent performance. Many praise its ease of installation and compatibility with various systems, including the Playstation 5. SAVE YOURSELF. SANDISK WORST WARRANTY SUPPORT EVER

I bought this in late December 2024 and it died in just 5 months. I've dealt with warranties before with other companies but nothing like this... WD requires warranties to be processed by Sandisk. 1. They require you pay for shipment. 2. Their website gives you a case where you can track the status of your warranty. In 29 days I received 0 updates other than that they received it on 5/9/2025. After asking for the 3rd time.... 30 days later they tell me that the warranty was denied since it's damaged?? okay... in what way damaged? No details just that it's damaged and it wasn't damaged physically at all. It just stopped working.... So they tell me that if I want this back I need to pay the shipping or they will destroy it in 13 days. This is beyond unacceptable... I've deal with Asus, MSI, Gigabyte and even Samsung and NONE come close to how awful this experience was. I feel like I was robbed.... SCAMMED.

I have looked into compatible m.2 and i looked at this WD as a end all solution. First day in the thing says overheating. I am testing it out with data backup and heavy play. Wish to edit until further notice. Shoudl this be paired with a heat sink?

Had no problem reserving the item for pickup at in-store location. SSD works great and fit in perfectly with my PC build. Primarily using it for gaming with a ROG Z-890E motherboard. I've had it for about two months and I haven't had any problems with it so far. I recommend this model if you are building a PC that already has a heat sink as part of the motherboard. The model with the attached heat sink will not fit in certain motherboards, so it's less of a hassle to just get one like this with no attached heat sink and use the motherboard's heat sink, especially if it's a higher end motherboard. If you're upgrading a gaming console or you don't have a heat sink built in to your motherboard, you should consider getting one with a heat sink. 4TB drive provides plenty of space for what I need. Seems to work fine in a mid-high tier gaming PC. No complaints!

WD SN850X drives are excellent performers. Sure, they won't get you the impressive speeds of NVME 5.0 drives. However, NVME 4.0 is still plenty fast. Based on real-world. Game load speeds are almost entirely unaffected by NVME 5.0 speeds over 4.0. Even file transfer, when the cache runs out, the speed plummets. This is my 5th WD SN drive after switching from Samsung 970 Pro and 970 EVO drives. This is my 2nd 4 TB drive, purchased to upgrade my 2nd PC 1 TB SN7100 drive. 4 TBs for under $270 was the sweet spot. CyberPunk 2077 now loads in 7.6 second oppose to 9 seconds on my old drive. So yeah, slightly noticeable speed improvement. With that said, this drive is worth the money. When installed, you will get about 3.64 GBs instead of 4 TBs of usable space.

Speed & Efficiency: Delivering unparalleled read and write speeds, this SSD significantly reduces load times, making it a boon for gaming enthusiasts and professionals handling large files and applications. Reliability & Durability: WD continues its tradition of reliability with the BLACK SN850X, ensuring stable performance and longevity, giving users peace of mind for their valuable data. Compatibility & Installation: The SSD offers wide-ranging compatibility with most systems supporting PCIe NVMe, and the installation process is straightforward, even for those less tech-savvy. I would also recommend the SK hynix Platinum P41 as a amazing alternative with the speed and reliability to back it up.

Fast and sleek 4TB internal SSD! Fairly priced too! Every PS5 owner must own one of these guys! Recommend getting it from Best Buy because of the warranty they offer. It’s a super easy install, keeps the system running smooth and it is great for storing all those DIGITAL GAMES!!! Don’t forget to get the cooling cover, it can also be purchased along with the ssd for a low price through BB! It’s just as described and shown!

I’ve been using this drive as my main gaming laptop SSD drive for the windows operating system and storage for 9 months now, and it has held up extremely well. It always runs fast and doesn’t overheat. I do recommend using a heat sink when installing in a laptop because this thing does generate some heat under heavy use.

so far it has been excellent. REALLY fast, doesn't run hot in my PC, and all the storage I could want. It's has twice the storage capacity and 90% of the advertised speed of the Samsung 990 (actually a bit faster than the 990 on mixed read/ write), and no widespread failure issues.

It’s fast. It’s a lot of storage. What more can I say? Installation is simple (just as all the others). Western Digital has software with firmware updates when needed. Free (defeatured) Acronis software is helpful for moving old data to the new drive if upgrading. It runs kinda toward the hot side, but is stable. Did I mention it’s fast? If you have read this far, just buy it already. You know you want to.

Bought this ssd for my music studio use. It provides good speed (5800 to 5900 MB/sec) when paired with the OWC Express 1M2 80GB enclosure on Thunderbolt 5 connection. Did need to reformat for Mac but that was quick and easy. In normal use it runs cool to warm. In heavy loads when I transferred 1.4TB of software libraries, it got hot. Overall, very happy with it so far.

Yo, this WD Black SN850X 4TB is a straight-up beast! Installed it, and man, this thing flies. If you’re still running Gen 3 NVMe drives, you’re playing yourself—this Gen 4 monster is stupid fast. Load times? What load times?! Everything’s instant. I use this for audio and video production/editing, and it handles huge files like a champ. No lag, no stutters—just smooth playback and lightning-fast exports. 4TB of space means I’m not constantly shuffling files around, which is a lifesaver when working on big projects. Temps stay cool even under heavy loads, and I’m not seeing any throttling. Read/write speeds are exactly what they promise—blazing fast. If you need a high-performance SSD with massive storage, this is it. Just make sure you got a Gen 4-compatible motherboard to unleash the beast. Final verdict? No-brainer upgrade.

I’ve been buying WD for a long time. Never once had issues. This 4 TB NVME is both fast, efficient and a decent value for today’s computers. It’s not a pci 5.0 offering blistering file moving capability, but most people don’t move data at those rates regularly, if it all anyway. Massive overkill in gaming at the moment as well. 5.0 units also generate more heat, and I think in another year or 2, the heat and prices will come down making them a better value. This will make them do what the 4.0 units like this one are doing today. Offering value and still, outstanding performance. The 8TB units are coming down in price but are a healthy chunk of money to purchase. There is more of the mid range market at 4TB, which more will gravitate to. Overall? Buy this if you want great storage and want to take up less motherboard nvme slots doing so. Additionally saving more money today, and down the road. 1000% recommend.

First off, I want to mention one thing. Best Buy, in a very "clever" way, lists this drive under a different model number than everyone else. It's the same exact product as say, Amazon sells, and bestbuy.com even links to the Product Sheet from this drive's page that show a different model number than BB lists it under. What does it mean? Well the drive is exactly the same, but if you do happen to find a cheaper price, as I did, BB will 100% refuse to match it because "it's a different model number". Very slick. And this is not the only item they do this trick with, so be careful when you shop, is all I can say. However, as tempted as I was to give this review a lower rating because of the issue described above, I can't penalize an excellent product like that. I used to be all about Samsung SSDs, and they're still good, but I happened to have a picky computer, that seems to always act up with Samsung drives, even thought they do work fine in other devices, but WD work perfectly. So I switched to all SN850X drives in my system, and the 4TB was the latest addition. No issues at all. The temps are good with a motherboard heatsink, it's fast, of course, and it's a good deal, when compared with its closest competitor, the 990 Pro, I believe you're getting a better, more reliable drive from WD, at a slightly lower price. I recommend it 100%.

I got it at Christmas on Black Friday sale thing and it was a really good price 229 for 4TB can't beat it. You don't have to get the one with the heat sink that's specifically made for the PS5 it's just overpriced with the heat sink and with the PS 5 you know guarantee and all that stuff and the logo not worth getting it just get the regular one and get your own heatsink the best heat sink to put on it is the Sprint heat sink it actually is the cover of two so you don't have to use the stock cover heat sink is the cover and it's thick aluminum with copper pipe to cool even better. Now I have 4 TB of storage and great speed so can't complain if they come out with an eight terabyte at a decent price then I might upgrade but other than that it's good for right now. If you get it at a very decent price I would definitely get that one or the Samsung 990 Pro that I bought too. So on the Western Digital 4 TB without heatsink definitely I must buy at the right price when it's on deep discount Sale price. If you're looking for a 2 TB I would recommend the crucial t500 with heat sink

Installation and Setup: First things first, installation was a breeze. The M.2 2280 form factor allowed it to fit snugly on the board without any hassle. The only thing to keep in mind is that you need a compatible motherboard with PCIe Gen 4 to reap the full benefits of the drive. However, even with a PCIe Gen 3 motherboard, it still brings a significant improvement to your PC's performance. Performance and Speed: Now, let's talk about the main attraction - speed. The WD - BLACK SN850X boasts a read speed of up to 7000MB/s and a write speed of up to 5300MB/s. To put it simply, this thing is FAST. After loading up my favorite games and applications on this SSD, I was simply blown away by the load times. From Windows boot time to in-game loading screens, everything feels lightning-fast, and it has significantly cut down my waiting time. Price and Value: Yes, the WD - BLACK SN850X is on the pricier side when compared to entry-level SSDs. However, for those who are seeking the best of the best, it's more than worth the investment. The combination of unprecedented performance, huge capacity, and reliability make it a solid long-term investment for both gamers and content creators.
